Train to The Future - North Korea (Deepest Metro Station in the World)

Wander around the Pyongyang subway.

The Pyongyang Metro (Korean: 평양 지하철도; MR: P'yŏngyang Chihach'ŏlto) is the rapid transit system in the North Korean capital Pyongyang. It consists of two lines: the Chollima Line, which runs north from Puhŭng Station on the banks of the Taedong River to Pulgŭnbyŏl Station, and the Hyŏksin Line, which runs from Kwangbok Station in the southwest to Ragwŏn Station in the northeast. The two lines intersect at Chŏnu Station.

Daily ridership is estimated to be between 300,000 and 700,000. Structural engineering of the Metro was completed by North Korea, with rolling stock and related electronic equipment imported from China. This was later replaced with rolling stock acquired from Germany.

My two evil North Korean guides and I inside the Pyongyang subway

This video was recorded during my trip to North Korea. These were two of my North Korean guides. And yes, they were awesome! Very different from the Western view we usually have from them. If you would like to know how to visit North Korea as well (on a budget), check out our article about it:

2010年代以降、平壌の街の中に原色が使われ始め、カラフルになった。特に新型のタクシーは様々なバリエーションのスタイルになっている。1990年代の映像と比べてほしい。しかし、北朝鮮でも営業しているDHLはその事実自体でもっと評価されるべきだ!

Since the 2010s, primary colors have begun to be used in the city of Pyongyang and have become colorful. In particular, new taxis come in a variety of styles. I want you to compare it with the video of the 1990s.
However, DHL, which also operates in North Korea, should be evaluated more by the fact itself!

Is the Pyongyang Metro Real or Fake? You Decide.

The Pyongyang Metro (평양지하철도) is an iconic attraction most tourist groups visit during their stay in Pyongyang. The Pyongyang Metro is a living and breathing organism of the city. Although it has incredibly vibrant and charming characteristics, it can also be rather intense during peak hour with an average of 300,000 to 600,000 passengers each day. It’s certainly one of the major highlights for many foreign visitors whilst visiting North Korea.

The metro system is considered the deepest metro in the world, buried 100 meters below the surface. It consists of two lines, the Chollima line and Hyoksin line with 16 subway stations in total. It operates solely on the west side of Pyongyang – within the more developed districts. The depth of the metro helps keep the temperature to a comfortable level of 20°C (68°F) throughout the year, as the local Korean guides say “cool in summer and warm in winter”.

In August of 2017, YPT's North Korea Tours Manager Rowan Beard rode through the entire Pyongyang Metro system and captured his experience on camera. Is it real or fake? You decide!

It really feels like Seoul has the best subway system in the world.
There are 24 lines, (AND 728 STATIONS!)... all underground!

And it's easy to use...
Just get your t-money card at the airport or any subway station or any convenience store (7eleven, CU, G25...), and load your card with money.
It is cheaper to use t-money than buying single entrance tickets.
