The 82901 / 82902 Ahmedabad–Mumbai Central Tejas Express is a train on the Ahmedabad–Mumbai route. It is a semi-high speed, fully air-conditioned train Introduced by Indian Railways connecting Ahmedabad to Mumbai along with six stations named Nadiad, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Vapi, and Borivali. This train started running from 19 January 2020. The fare of the train will be dynamic.
Since its inauguration, this train is India's second private train after Lucknow–New Delhi Tejas Express, both operated by IRCTC.
The 82901/82902 Ahmedabad Jn – Mumbai Central Tejas Express presently has 3 AC Executive Chair Car, 11 AC Chair Car coaches along with 2 End-on Generator coaches.
As with most train services in India, coach composition may be amended at the discretion of Indian Railways depending on demand.
Tejas Express (82902) will depart from Ahmedabad at 06.40 am via Nadiad, Vadodara Bharuch, Surat, Vapi & Borivali to Mumbai Central railway station. The train will reach Mumbai at 1.10 pm.[5]
Tejas Express (82901) will depart from Mumbai to Ahmedabad Junction railway station at 3.40 pm and will reach Ahmedabad at 9.55 pm.
Except Thursdays
For the first time entertainment facilities have been introduced in Indian Railways. The Ahmedabad–Mumbai Tejas is the first Indian train to have LCD screens for each individual passengers though this facility will be available only in Executive Chair Car. In the LCD passengers can enjoy Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati movies, listen music as well as Passenger Information System is also available. Moreover, passengers can enjoy on-board free WiFi facilities.
The Tejas Express is a semi-high speed fully air-conditioned train introduced by Indian Railways. It features modern onboard facilities with doors which are operated automatically. Tejas means sharpness, lustre, or brilliance in many Indian languages. It is one of 3 semi-high speed trains running in India, the others being the Vande Bharat Express and the Gatimaan Express.
The inaugural run of Tejas Express was on 24 May 2017 from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Maharashtra to Karmali, Goa. It covered 552 km in 8 hours and 30 minutes. On 1 March 2019, the second Tejas Express of the country was flagged off between Chennai Egmore and Madurai Junction by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It covered 497 km in 6 hours and 30 minutes.
Tejas Express on New Delhi – Chandigarh route is expected to commence its services soon after its first announcement in 2016 whereas the Lucknow – New Delhi route running currently as the train has been included in the current Trains at Glance, the official train time-table booklet, with Date of Introduction to be declared condition and at the same time news websites have quoted railway officials saying a hold of three years.Meanwhile, the train service which was expected to be launched on Mumbai – Surat and New Delhi- Jalandhar route has also been put on hold.[8]
Lucknow – New Delhi Tejas Express, which was inaugurated on 4 October 2019, is India's first train operated by private operators, IRCTC, a subsidiary of Indian Railways.
The coaches of the first Tejas Express of India, which runs between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai and Karmali are manufactured at Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala in Kapurthala district of Punjab. The coaches of the second Tejas express, which runs between Chennai Egmore and Madurai, were manufactured at Integral Coach Factory, Chennai. The train is designed to run at a maximum speed of 200 km/h (120 mph) but the maximum operating speed allowed is 130 km/h (81 mph) due to track and safety constraints. Presently, the train runs at an average speed of 65 km/h (40 mph).
Coaches have bio-vacuum toilets, water level indicators, tap sensors, hand dryers, integrated braille displays, LED TV for each passenger with phone sockets, local cuisine, celebrity chef menu, WiFi, tea & coffee vending machines, magazines, snack tables, CCTV cameras, fire & smoke detection and suppression system. The fares will be 20% to 30% more than Shatabdi fares.The Tejas Express has redesigned seats with eco-leather. Toilets are equipped with soap dispensers, touch-less water taps, odour-control systems and occupancy indicators. Doors are centrally controlled.
Tejas Express Mumbai to Ahmedabad Full Travel Journey | IRCTC Private Train
India's 2nd Private Train Tejas Express Ahmedabad to Mumbai and Mumbai to Ahmedabad starts from 19th January 2020.
Myself Vimal Shah travelling in IRCTC Private Train Tejas Express on the Inauguration date of 17th January 2020.
The train (82902/82901) will operate on the Ahmedabad- Mumbai route six days a week with Thursday kept as off-day for maintenance activity.
The fully air-conditioned train has two executive class chair cars, having 56 seats each, and eight chair cars, having capacity of 78 seats each. The total carrying capacity of the train is 736 passengers.
IRCTC will compensate passengers for delays. It will provide Rs 100 to each passenger in case delay is more than one hour and Rs 250 if delay exceeds two hours.
The train will start its journey at Ahmedabad at 06:40 hours and reach Mumbai Central at 13.10 hours with scheduled commercial halts at Nadiad, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Vapi and Borivali stations.
For the return journey, the train will leave Mumbai Central at 15:40 hours and reach Ahmedabad at 21:55 hours.
The train's fares will be dynamic in nature keeping in mind the prevailing bus, taxi, rail and air rates on the route. It will have different series of fares for lean, busy and festive seasons.
Further, the train's fares will be on point-to-point basis and bookings can be done only online 60 days in advance.
Meals will be served by on-board service staff and tea and coffee vending machines will be available inside the train.
Besides state-of-the-art interiors, the train has personalised reading lights, mobile charging points, CCTV cameras, bio-toilets, LED TV sets and automatic doors.

Everything about the new Mumbai-Ahmedabad Tejas Express explained in 7 points
Travelling between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will now become much comfortable, faster and easier, as IRCTC is launching a new Tejas Express to ferry passengers between the two cities. With the introduction of the train, travellers will finally get a state of the art train that runs between the two cities.
The news is, the train is being launched on 17th January and we're as excited as can be. So here's everything you need to know about the new Mumbai-Ahmedabad Tejas Express explained in 7 points.
After the immense success of Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express, IRCTC is launching its second train on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route. The new Mumbai- Ahmedabad Tejas Express will make its inaugural journey on 17th January, while normal journey will begin on 19th January. Which means that travelling between the two cities is going to get much faster and easier.
Here's everything we know about the new train:
1. The Mumbai Ahmedabad Tejas Express will become India's second private train. The train will be run by the catering, ticketing and tourism wing of Indian railways.
2. The train will run on all days of the week except 'Thursday'. It will make its journey every morning at 6:40 am from Ahmedabad and reach Mumbai Central Railway Station at 1:10 pm with a train number 82902. While on its return journey the train will run with the train number 82901, leaving Mumbai Central Station at 3:40 pm and reaching Ahmedabad at 9:55 pm.
3. Unlike the Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express which only has two halt stations (Kanpur and Ghaziabad), the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Tejas Express will have 6 halt stations. The train will make a 6.5 hour journey while stopping at Nadiad, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Vapi and Borivali.
4. The tickets for the train can only be booked via the IRCTC app or at ' The Mumbai-Ahmedabad train runs on dynamic fare, which means that the price of tickets will change according to the demand. Though the basic fare of the train has been decided at ₹1362, it will have an additional dynamic fare.
5. Each passenger onboard will get free travel insurance while a
compensation will be payed if there's any delay on the route. Plus, there won't be any tatkal or premium tatkal quota for ticket booking.
6. The new Tejas Express will have state of the art facilities including modern interiors, AC coaches, CCTV cameras, a professional crew for service, personal reading lights, several charging points, automatic doors and several others.
7. Other than 9 regular AC chair-car coaches, the train will also have an executive AC chair-car coach which can be opted by those who want a more premium feel.
