Abiku refers the children who die before 12 years old.
The spirits who caused the death are also called Abiku.
Abiku spirits or loa's reside in the trees,
they can return and master the body of humans for a short time.

Voodoo is the main course in Benin. For people across West Africa, especially Togo, Ghana and Nigeria, voodoo is a normal practice, and in Benin it is recognized as an official religion, followed by nearly half of the population.
In Benin, voodoo is a complete way of life, and can be found in every aspect of West African culture, philosophy, language, art, dance, music, and medicine.
This video is part of a larger series where I visited several voodoo (or voudou) priests in Togo and Benin who, in exchange for a monetary donation, alcohol, and an animal sacrifice, ask various voodoo gods to intervene and speak to visitors' questions about their health, lovelife, or destiny.

Ouidah, Benin and a bit of VooDoo
After my bout with malaria in Togo, I pushed across to the country of Benin. On my way to the capital of Benin, I made a stop at the historical town of Ouidah. Here in Ouidah, the slave trade was once the largest form of industry. Slaves would be taken in to town on boat, and then forced to walk the last couple miles to the sea where they would be picked up and shipped out. Ouidah too is meant to have a strong voodoo history. In this episode of It's my Life 365, I stopped in at the Ouidah Museum for a look into that history, but to be honest I was a little bit disapointed with the museum. I was hoping for it to have more to talk about in regards to the Voodoo culture in Benin.
Anyways, I end the day in the capital of Benin: Cotonou.

Voodoo Festivals 2023- Awesome, Mystic, Sacred Egungun @ Sakete, Benin
The dusty Yoruba town of Sakete cannot even be found on many maps of Benin in West Africa. North of the country’s capital, Porto Novo, and not far from the Nigerian border, it has a population of around 12,000. The town has pleasant trees and greenery, as well as rubbish-strewn byways and maze-like streets dotted with open areas for socializing and events.

Haitian Voodoo Temple: Secret Room of Death! ????????
There’s no doubt that Vodou is a powerful spiritual tradition. The world’s first free black republic was formed, at least in part, thanks to the uniting spirit of Vodou. Vodou was the common thread that united leaders in the Haitian revolution, despite their lack of a common language, tribal bonds or country of origin. In the space of just a few years, in a seemingly miraculous feat against the odds, an army of slaves threw off their chains, overthrew the French colonial government, beat Napolean’s navy, abolished slavery, and formed modern day Haiti.
Today, perhaps not despite but because of these powerful roots, Vodou may just be the most maligned, feared and misunderstood spiritual tradition in the western world. This morning I was invited to attend a Vodou ceremony in Port-au-Prince Haiti to witness it for myself.
