Varanasi The Holy City : Travel to Incredible India!

Varanasi The Holy City : Travel to Incredible India!

Varanasi known to be the city of lights is a district, situated in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Spread on an area of 73.90 sq.kms, with an approx population of 3'682'194.

#Varanasi #Benares #incredibleindia #indiatravel #ganges

City of many names, Banaras as it is most commonly called, was officially renamed in 1956 as Varanasi. It was first known as Kashi, the city of light, when it was the capital of the kingdom of the same name about 500 B.C. for over 2000 years, Banaras, the eternal city, has been the religious capital of India.

Built on the banks of sacred Ganga, it is said to combine the virtues of all other places of pilgrimage and anyone who ends his earthly cycle here is said to be transported straight to heaven.

Banaras was also celebrated as the place where the most profound wisdom dwelt, the seat of all enlightenment and learning. Its permanent advantages include the highest sanctity, fertile soil, and its location on a great river. Hindu rulers built great palaces, temples and ghats in the city.

It is one of the oldest living cities in the world and the ultimate pilgrimage for hindus who believe that to die in the city is to attain instant salvation.

Walking along the Ganges Varanasi - India [4K]

SUBSCRIBE:
30 min morning walk along the Ganges river, Varanasi India.
The Ganges or Ganga, is a trans-boundary river of Asia which flows through India and Bangladesh. The 2,601 km (1,616 mi) river rises in the western Himalayas in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, and flows south and east through the Gangetic Plain of India and Bangladesh, eventually emptying into the Bay of Bengal.

The Ganges is a sacred river to Hindus along every fragment of its length. All along its course, Hindus bathe in its waters, paying homage to their ancestors and to their gods by cupping the water in their hands, lifting it and letting it fall back into the river they offer flowers and rose petals and float shallow clay dishes filled with oil and lit with wicks.Ganges is believed to have the power to wash away the sins of mortals.

VARANASI: SPIRITUAL CAPITAL OF INDIA! (4K)

Varanasi, also called Banaras, is known as the Spiritual Capital of India for a few reasons. It is the holiest of the seven sacred cities in Hinduism and Jainism. As you can see in the first part of the video, the stunning sunrise over the Ganges River is a spiritual experience for many, as the Ganges is considered the holiest of rivers. There are also many Hindu and Buddhist temples located along the river bank and further away, which you will see in the boat and walking tour of Varanasi. It was here that I witnessed my first mass cremation. Thousands of old people come from all over India to Varanasi to die here. They believe that being cremated here and having their ashes thrown into the Ganges River will help their human soul find eternal salvation. The last portion of the video is the Aarti Ceremony, which takes place nightly, and it's something I will never forget. It is conducted in front of hundreds, if not thousands of people, both in boats on the riverbank and on land, by young Indian priests or pandits. When you witness this ceremony, you can truly see why Varanasi is the Spiritual Capital of India! Here is the breakdown of the video:

0:00 Sunrise Over the Ganges River
4:31 Boat and Walking Tour
11:25 Mass Cremations
13:59 Temples of Varanasi: Durga Mandir (Monkey Temple), New Viswanath Temple (Shri Vishwanath Mandir), Bharat Mata Mandir (Mother India Temple)

Banaras ke Ghat | Episode 1 | Kashi | Swades | POI Originals

Banaras and its Ghats!

Banaras, Mahadev ki Nagri, often brings very distinct emotions in so many of us and we are drawn to it for one reason or the other. For some, it is Mokshadayani or the place to get salvation, for some it is the city where Buddha gave his first learnings while for some it is the Kashi Vishwanath template that draws them in.

POI's team went on a journey to unfold Banaras and bring to you soul stories from the city. We spoke to Sadhus and the Boatmen on the Ghats, the historians and librarians of the city, the common folks who have made the city their own home and indulged ourselves in the soulful food of Banaras.

However, we had to start our narration of Banaras with the one thing that signifies the ties of the city with life and death itself - the Ghats of Banaras. Get to know why the city is called Mahadev ki Nagri, what do people feel and believe life and death is in Banaras and what does it feel like to be present at Manikarnika.

Every Ghat of Banaras has its own unique personality, from the bustling Dashashwamedh Ghat, where the grand Ganga Aarti enchants all who witness it, to the tranquil Assi Ghat, where one can reflect in solitude, or the Manikarnika Ghat where the bodies of the deceased are burnt. Whether you're a seeker of spirituality, an admirer of architectural marvels, or simply a traveler in search of the authentic essence of India, Banaras Ghats offer an unforgettable experience.

Ganga flows ceaselessly here, an eternal witness to the passage of time and the cycle of life. The Ghats of Varanasi, with their timeless charm, stand as a testament to the resilience of traditions and the enduring power of faith. To visit the Banaras Ghats is to embark on a journey not just through space but through the very soul of India itself.

We bring this journey, this experience to you.

Newly Built Kashi Vishwanath Dham & Corridor In Varanasi | I Love My India | Curly Tales

The Kashi Vishwanath Temple holds immense significance to Hindus as it is revered as one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. It is visited by more than 7 million devotees every year. In new developments, the divine shrine has now been restored and beautified with the Kashi Vishwanath Dham project by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government.

Earlier the temple area was only 3000 square feet which has now enlarged to about 5 lakh square feet to be able to accommodate 50000-75000 devotees at one time in the temple and temple premises.

So what has changed at the ancient Kashi Vishwanath temple complex?

Visiting India's Holiest City (Varanasi Travel Vlog)

Varanasi, India is a place we have wanted to visit for as long as we can remember. We have seen many pictures and videos of Indians and foreigners visiting Varanasi, and we were drawn into the colours, customs, rituals, and significance of this place. Although we do not belong to any of the religions that find meaning at the Ganges River, we have always wanted to travel to Varanasi and learn about the importance of this area.

Although we did not bathe in the Ganges River ourselves, watching people dip themselves in the River and cleanse themselves with rituals that we had never seen before was such a great experience. It is easy to feel the importance of Varanasi for those who believe in the purification of the Ganges River and the privilege of being cremated at it's banks. We are so grateful that we were able to visit India's holiest city and witness people partake in rituals that hold such importance for them.

For foreigners visiting Varanasi, our advice would be to come prepared to learn, and give yourself enough time to take Varanasi slowly. For our first time in Varanasi, we found that we needed to take breaks from the crowds and busy streets to allow ourselves the space and time to really take in what we were experiencing. The ghats are definitely the best place to spend time sitting, watching, and learning, and we would highly recommend Dashashwamedh Ghat and Assi Ghat. Of course, seeing the famous Aarti performed at the Assi Ghat is a must do during your time in Varanasi.

We hope you are able to get a feel for what it's like to visit Varanasi from this Varanasi travel vlog. We had such a great time exploring this city and ticking a sunrise boat ride along the Ganges River off our bucket list!

Welcome to VARANASI, the holiest city in INDIA and a treasure trove of DELICIOUS Indian STREET FOOD. In this episode we will be introducing vegetarian food only!

We start our day down at the ghat along the Ganges River for an early morning boat ride. We get to see the incredible shore line, worshippers dipping into the river, and the sunrise! Make sure to agree on a price prior to your ride! (250 INR for 1 hour).

Breakfast time! We headed into the ancient city to find a stall selling Varanasi style kachori (22 INR) and jalebi (350 INR/kg). Served with chana masala and in a chaotic alleyway, this was the perfect way to start the day! Next, we searched for a special winter dish known as Malaiyo (30 INR). This is a Varanasi delicacy! Malaiyo is made of milk foam flavoured with cardamom and saffron, and is topped with almonds and pistachios. It’s so light and fluffy, it almost has the texture of shaving cream!

Another Benares specialty is lassi, so we went to a stall serving some unique and beautiful lassi. We ordered 3 kinds: apple, pomegranate & banana and papaya (90 INR each). Each had a different look and taste! The Varanasi lassi is much sweeter than the others we have tried, in Amritsar and Delhi.

We were quite full and decided to head back down to the ghat to take a rest near the peaceful water. Later in the day, we ventured back into the ancient city to visit a chaat shop (which are small Indian snacks). We ordered 3 different chaats: tomato chaat, puffed rice chaat, and a spinach fritter chaat (35 INR each). All were very unique in flavour and made FRESH!

Just down the street from the chat stall, is a man serving hot buffalo milk! We ordered 3 kinds: regular hot milk (10 INR), top cream (35 INR) and sweet rabri (45). Buffalo milk is rich in nutrients and is perfect on a winter day in Varanasi. The difference is in the way he prepares the milk. The top cream comes from the thick layer created after boiling the buffalo milk. It is really light yet delicious. The rabri comes from reducing the buffalo milk until it’s very thick and adding sugar! 1 ingredient with much different textures and flavours! Have you ever tried buffalo milk?

Varanasi | Varanasi Tourist Places| Varanasi Travel Guide | Varanasi Tour | Varanasi, Kashi, Banaras

Varanasi, or Banaras(also known as Kashi) is one of the oldest living cities in the world. Varanasi`s Prominence in Hindu mythology is virtually unrevealed. “Benaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together.'

The land of Varanasi (Kashi) has been the ultimate pilgrimage spot for Hindus for ages. Hindus believe that one who is graced to die on the land of Varanasi would attain salvation and freedom from the cycle of birth and re-birth. Abode of Lord Shiva and Parvati, the origins of Varanasi are yet unknown. Ganges in Varanasi is believed to have the power to wash away the sins of mortals.

Ganges is said to have its origins in the tresses of Lord Shiva and in Varanasi, it expands to the mighty river that we know of. The city is a center of learning and civilization for over 3000 years. With Sarnath, the place where Buddha preached his first sermon after enlightenment, just 10 km away, Varanasi has been a symbol of Hindu renaissance. Knowledge, philosophy, culture, devotion to Gods, Indian arts and crafts have all flourished here for centuries. Also a pilgrimage place for Jains, Varanasi is believed to be the birthplace of Parsvanath, the twenty-third Tirthankar.

Incredible India| Varanasi | Streets Traveler

Hello dear, I'm an Indian Traveller, I travel to Varanasi (Banaras), one of the holiest cities in the Hindu religion. In this video I visit the famous ghats(Assi Ghats, Kashi Ghats, etc), or steps, which lead into the Ganges River, the holy river where visitors and locals come every day to wash themselves and perform religious ceremonies.

It is on the banks of the Ganges where thousands of bodies are burned every year. Having your body burned and its ashes spread here is considered to be one of the holiest places in the world to do so in the Hindu religion.

After exploring the river, I stop by a music (sangit) show to listen tabla, sitar, harmonium etc. with a local player, the tabla are a completely different style of playing...

I finish up by taking a morning boat ride in the Ganges river. The colors you see on the river and on the buildings towering above are spectacular as the sun rises in the morning, and it was one of my most memorable experiences of the entire trip.

VARANASI | The city of MOKSHA | Incredible India ???????? | Travel Video | India 4k

In this travel video you will get to see the one of the holiest of India, Varanasi.

Varanasi, traditionally known as Banaras (Benares) in India, is a popular holy city of the nation located in the central region of the Ganges Valley in North India. This city is not just the oldest in India but happens to be the oldest colonized cities universally. Banaras has religious as well as literal significance.
Varanasi is an old city and still follows the same traditional culture for ages now. This city truly demonstrates India’s rich culture. People of numerous religions (Hindus, Jains) believe in the rituals and practices of this holy city. Buddhism was also founded here itself.
Varanasi is also renowned for its Ghats. The place has about a hundred beautiful Ghats where you can bathe. Many of these Ghats are also used for cremation. Some of the popular Varanasi Ghats include the Kali Ghat, the Manikarnika Ghat, the Scindia Ghat (has the sacred Shiva Temple by its side) the Dashashwamedh Ghat ( located very close to the Vishwanath Temple) and the Man Mandir Ghat.
Varanasi was the capital of the kingdom of Kashi during the time of the Buddha (6th century BCE), who gave his first sermon nearby at Sarnath. Sarnath is a important pilgrimage for Buddhist as Lord Buddha gave his first preaching here. Its such a peaceful place located about 11 kms away from Varanasi. 2 main attractions at Sarnath, one is the Buddha Temple and the place where he gave his first preaching and 2nd one is the garden with ruins.

Hindi subtitles are also available.
