80 hrs from London to Istanbul by Sleeper Train

Today I’m taking taking the train from London all the way to Istanbul. Crossing 9 countries along the way on a variety of different sleeper trains, high speed trains and down right awful trains! Join me as I travel in the fastest possible time by using only the method of rail to get from one side of the continent of Europe to the other. Starting in London St Pancras, I’ll catch the Eurostar to Paris Gare Du Nord. Next up due to a delay from my previously booked train, I’ll grab a TGV over to Zurich, Switzerland. From there it’s the Austian Nightjet over to Vienna. Thanks to several lucky scrapes, I’m able to grab a 1st class train over to Budapest and catch up with my original itinerary to continue on to Arad, Romania. From Arad I’ll take one Romania’s most luxurious sleeper train over to Bucharest in order to catch my final train over to Turkey. This will be a couchette and it’s fare to say it’s a little rough around the edges.

As always let me know what you think, and if you’d do the same - to travel across Europe by sleeper train. It’s certainly possible with a little patience and a lack of sleep aha.

Sofia Express (Sofia to Istanbul overnight train)

???????? ???????? Best train ever???
Honestly, International Sleeper trains used to make us excited, before our unfortunate border experience in Serbia. But tonight we are ready to have the entire overnight sleeper train experience redeemed!

We are jumping onboard the Sofia Express (Sofya ekspresi) from Sofia Bulgaria to Istanbul Turkey. Along the way we wanted to fully document the entire experience including the costs, border crossing process, amenities, whats included and of course, a full cabin tour of the Sofia sxpress.

We were surprised by what we found on-board and the entire experience can speak for itself!

Why Turkey's high-speed train surprised me! - TCDD VIP Class Review

Hello, and welcome back to another train trip review!

Today I'm trying out the Turkish high-speed service, the TCDD Yüksek Hızlı Tren (YHT) on a ride between the biggest city (İstanbul) to the capital city (Ankara).

This journey takes place on-board the new TCDD HT80000, part of the fantastic Siemens Velaro family of high-speed trains. These trains are a little different however, featuring an incredible VİP Class, which I think is probably the most luxurious and exclusive experience available on any high-speed train. You won't believe how cheap it was either!

Enjoy the video!

London to Africa by train, First Class 4K

-Patreon:

Many viewers ask about the total cost for this trip, it was around USD700 ONE WAY for tickets first class booked in advance and hotels 2-3 stars not more. No luxury and went in low season (November).

In high season (kids holiday) train tickets and hotels/airbnb are expensive and the trip might cost you almost double.

Eurail/Interrail infos:

If you're booking your journey in advance then buy your tickets directly on thetrainline.com for example.

If you buy the pass and use it to make early reservations (as the eurail advises on their website) the overall cost of the pass+reservations will be more than buying tickets directly, plus, you will be treated as a suspect second class citizen with your reservation marked as Must Show Pass. Another cons to Eurail/Interrail pass when making a reservation is that you have no way to choose your seat. I was always attributed the worst seats when I used it : usually in the 4-block seats facing strangers (often families with children).

If you try to use the pass few days earlier to your journey on high speed trains in Europe, well it says No Seats Available for pass holders. So in all cases the pass isn't worth it neither when booking early nor lately.

My advice is to book the tickets for all your journeys in advance while having a complete control on your attributed seats and saving money.

London to Istanbul by train - the Orient Express

The beautiful train journey from London to Istanbul via Paris - Munich - Prague - Budapest - Bucharest.

Istanbul To London: A Journey West

On 31st December, 2011, I arrived in Istanbul, Turkey, to embark on a ten day, 2,000 mile journey across Europe. Following the route of the Orient Express, A Journey West documents my travels by train, from Europe's most south-easterly shores to the north-west and London, in the UK.

This pseudo-documentary is a combination of moving and still images, captured using handheld cameras. Much of the imagery captured whilst on the move, with the camera attached to my back-pack straps at shoulder or waist height. The aim was to create a real sense of 'travelling' and movement, placing the viewer directly at that moment in time, as if it were their own journey. For this reason, there is also no narration or commentary, only diegetic sounds, enabling the viewer to form their own opinions and judgments and experience the journey for themselves, based on the footage before them.

A Journey West is a film by Henry W R White.
