World’s Shortest Humans | The Batwa Pygmies of Uganda
Hello Awesome people,
Originally, Batwa were forest-dwelling hunter-gatherers based in the Great Lakes region of Central Africa, and are widely accepted as the original inhabitants of the region. As their traditional forest lands and territories fell under the control of agro-industries and conservation agencies, the Batwa became squatters living on the edges of society. The establishment of the Bwindi and Mgahinga National Parks for Mountain Gorillas in 1991 enabled the authorities to evict the Batwa definitely from the forest. The Batwa in Uganda (today) experience systematic and pervasive discrimination from the government and other sectors of society, and their rights as indigenous peoples are neither recognized nor respected.

Burkina Faso - Geert Versteele en team fietsten dwars door Burkina Faso
In 2017 reed Geert Versteele dwars door België t.v.v. Burkina Faso, in 2018 dwars door Burkina Faso zelf!
Geert fietste 600 km en 2.855 euro bijeen ter ondersteuning van de lokale bevolking.
Het werd een boeiende kennismaking met het zwarte continent. Vijftien fietsers engageren zich voor dit Broederlijk Delenproject, waarvoor ze samen 30.514 euro hebben ingezameld. In zeven etappes fietsen de deelnemers van het groene zuiden naar het droge noorden. De fietstocht is meer dan vijfhonderd kilometer lang en loopt over onontgonnen mountainbiketracks door het authentieke Afrika. Mijn doel is drieledig: sportief plezier, kennismaken met een ander continent en de projecten van Broederlijk Delen steunen, vertelt Geert Versteele. Iedere deelnemer moest minstens duizend euro steunfondsen inbrengen. Daarvoor organiseerde ik onder andere een pop-upcafé in De Blankaart. Zijn teller staat intussen op 2.855 euro.
