THE LONGEST WAY 1.0 - 350 days of hiking through China - TIMELAPSE

In 2008, I walked through China - 1 year, 4500km. I let my hair and my beard grow. This is the resulting video. UPDATE: ▶ I have decided to continue my walk home from China to Germany. I'm currently in Turkey, or about halfway through.I post daily videos on this channel, and I blog about it here:

ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
▶ I didn't finish my original goal of walking to Germany in 2008. Instead, I walked for a year and roughly 4500km, passed the Gobi desert, and then decided to stop walking.
▶ All of the distance from Beijing to Ürümqi was completed solely on foot, straight good old walking. There are instances where you can see me in the video sitting on a plane or riding a boat, but those are during breaks I had to take from walking, either to sort out bureaucracy issues or to take care of some personal things.
▶ I had been planning this trip for over a year before I even started, and getting as far as I got was an experience for which I am very grateful.
▶ Obtaining the necessary visa for a trip like this was not very easy, hence I had to go back to Beijing a few times to resolve some issues.
▶ This is not a strict 1 pic a day video, because I wanted to make it a bit more alive by adding some additional movement. Sometimes during the film you would follow me turn around, or something would happen in the background. I tried to capture these moments to make the video more interesting.
▶ If you liked the music I used in this video, get it here: The Kingpins - L'Aventurier Zhu Fengbo - Olive Tree
▶ The core of this project is in actually my blog where I have posted my extensive travel diary, starting from day 1 (Nov 9th 2007) and describing every single day until the end one year later.

My solo trip to Hokkaido, Japan’s wild north

This is all about my memories of this early summer. I was fed up with the rainy season in Tokyo, and suddenly had an idea to go north. The Japan's wild north, Hokkaido. I started my trip from Kushiro. Visited Kiritappu, Kushiro Shitugen National Park, etc. Then I spent a few days in Sapporo, the largest city in Hokkaido, and ended up in Biei, which is called one of the most beautiful villages in Japan. There are many spots in Biei. Seven Star Tree, Blue Pond, Tokachi-dake, etc. Amazing place!

Notes on traveling in Hokkaido

・Hokkaido is much bigger than you imagine, so make sure you have enough time in your schedule.

・Don't touch or feed foxes; unlike in the UK, foxes in Japan have parasites :(

・Drones are not allowed in the town of Biei and around sea otters in Kiritappu. Please check the latest info.

Some of you may find my walking style awkward, but that's because I was still recovering from a knee injury and I was nervous in front of my camera. haha

100 Year Old Abandoned Village House - Bread making in chipped stone - Primitive water mill

I'm in a house built 200 years ago with a real bushcraft story where ancient people lived and is now abandoned. I made a primitive bread with this tray-shaped material made with handmade chipped stone in ancient times, it tasted incredible. It didn't taste like the breads I've ever eaten and made in my bushcraft-style camps. I should definitely try this again. I grinded corn in a primitive watermill and freshly baked my bread and ate it with melted cheese. I slept in the hammock here and it was really enjoyable.

Can I Travel Tibet Alone?

Can I travel to Tibet Alone? Simply put, the answer is now a resounding “NO”. Now, all travelers to Tibet must book their tours through a registered Tibetan tour operator, such as the Tibet tour service we offer at Tibet Vista. Visit

Learn more at

Tibet travel permits were already a requirement for tourists to the region, and with the closure of independent travel to Tibet, many people felt that it would be too much trouble to try and arrange a tour. However, despite the opinions of many, this was never the case.

The need to have a tour operator actually made the whole trip to Tibet much easier than it had ever been before. While previously, travelers could travel independently into Tibet, traveling around the region was hard, with few regular buses to the outlying areas and very expensive private car hire to get to the most remote areas that people liked to visit.

With the advent of the Tibetan tour operator, suddenly there were private tours, vehicles to take you to wherever you wished to go, and a massive reduction in the hassles of getting through the red tape of permits and travel passes. Here at Tibet Vista, we arrange all the aspects of your tour on your behalf, from the first application of permits to the hotels and accommodations you will stay in whilst on your tour. That way, you are left free to just focus on enjoying your upcoming vacation.
