OLIVE GROVE GUEST HOUSE IN KLEIN WINDHOEK NAMIBIA SOUTHERN AFRICA

Video of Olive Grove Guest House, located in Promenaden Road in Klein Windhoek suburb of the capital of Namibia.
Гостевой дом Олив Грув (город Виндхук) расположен в тихом зеленом районе столицы Намибии недалеко от центра города.

#OliveGroveGuestHouseWindhoek #TravelNamibia #SouthernAfrica

Olive Grove is a splendid guest house where guests can unwind in lush, tranquil surrounds. Conveniently situated near Windhoek’s city centre, this delightful retreat has an emphasis on simplicity and elegance. Olive Grove’s spacious ensued rooms with shared veranda - perfect for lavish breakfasts and al fresco dining.

An open-air terrace, plunge pool and flourishing gardens invite guests to unwind beneath Namibia’s starlit skies. The sitting room is tastefully decorated with comfortable chairs and a cosy fireplace. A computer is available for guests to check their e-mail and stay in touch with family and friends, while warm and efficient staff is always on hand to ensure guests have a memorable experience.

The guesthouse takes homely atmosphere to a different level. Completely refurbished recently, each room has been decorated and painted with new colour schemes allowing a different feel, but with the same elegant and simplistic emphasis on decor. The open-plan kitchen allows guests to see how meals are prepared, while they enjoy a drink in the lounge. The menu was also reinvented and is now fully a la carte, quite unique for a guesthouse. Home-style food is rounded off with great presentation, pushing up the level of the guesthouse dining experience. Whilst each of the eleven rooms and one suite cater for every need of the most discerning traveller, the emphasis remains one of simplicity and elegance.

The 11 en-suite rooms are spacious and the cemented brick cupboards and bed bases are beautifully rounded off with thick mattresses, quality linen, cane basket drawers, wrought-iron furniture, and as a special touch, different Moroccan lampshades and a silver Moroccan teapot. Care was taken to ensure that the mini-bar is stocked with everything from wine to nuts and that every room has proper filter coffee and a plunger. The contrast between the rustic cement, off-white linen, old silver and luxurious touches, is enchanting. One of Olive Grove’s main features is the large veranda in front of the rooms.

Video of Auasblick suburb - a newer area where new State House is located, Namibia, southern Africa. Part 1 of 4.

#AuasblickSuburbWindhoek #LivingInNamibia #SouthernAfrica

Auasblick is a suburb of Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, and it is located in the southern part of the city. The name Auasblick comes from the good views and the panoramas of the Auas Mountains, directly south of the suburb. In the north it borders Luxury Hill and in the west it borders Olympia suburb as well as in the north-west Auasblick borders Suiderhof with the Maerua Mall.

The new State House of Namibia - residence of President, as well as the residence of the second President of Namibia Hifikepunye Pohamba are located in Auasblick. The Prime Minister of Namibia lives (as in January 2019) in Auasblick.

Finkenstein Estate Bush Market near Windhoek, Namibia, southern Africa

Finkenstein Estate Bush Market took place on 11 March 2023 near Windhoek, off road to Hosea Kutako International Airport, Namibia.

#Market #Namibia #Windhoek

The Finkenstein Estate Bush Market is a community event held every two months in a beautiful natural veld environment a few minutes’ drive from Windhoek. Stalls are positioned between blackthorn trees close to the development comprising Finkenstein Estate, Finkenstein Manor and Finkenstein Village, just south of the B6 road between Windhoek and the Hosea Kutako International Airport. Entrance is free of charge; parking as well.

The Finkenstein Bush Market really is an ideal free day out for the whole family, their relatives and friends. Namibian businesses – large and small – participate as vendors and exhibitors and everyone is welcome to visit and enjoy our unique peaceful rural atmosphere. A huge variety of crafts, beverages and food is always on sale, and information stands are also featured showcasing handy local services and suppliers.

The food court, with ample seating and shade, is an ideal place to socialise while enjoying meals from around the world plus Namibian specialities, of course; or you can sample a range of different refreshing drinks at our outdoor bar @The River with more seating. Opportunities to be active are a special feature of our event, whether you want to take part in a trail run, get on your mountain bike, or take a scenic route on horseback. In addition, there are always fun activities for children to enjoy in a safe setting at the KIDZ’ KORNER.

The Finkenstein Bush Market was launched in mid-2020 with the aim of strengthening our community bonds and providing a venue where people from Windhoek and beyond can support local producers, a goal that has only become more important as a result of the recent pandemic.

The Finkenstein Bush Market organisers and vendors are committed to:

maintaining fair and competitive prices;
delivering hand-crafted items and farm-fresh products that are not widely available elsewhere;
using eco-friendly, healthy and organic ingredients wherever feasible;
offering a broad range of goods and attractions that will interest all visitors, whatever their age;
creating a uniquely vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for everyone to enjoy;
prioritising local goods and services in order to support Namibian entrepreneurs; and
building and strengthening a self-help community spirit.
We are always looking to expand our group of Finkenstein Bush Market participants. If you think you would like to take part as a vendor or exhibitor in the future, please get in touch. We welcome ‘home industries’ just as much as large-scale businesses.

Support our Namibian community – buy local products!

Avis suburb of the capital city Windhoek in Namibia, southern Africa, part 4

Driving in Avis suburb of Windhoek, the capital of Namibia in southern Africa. This is the nearest suburb to Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport that borders on Avis Dam Recreational Area. Part 4.

#WindhoekAvisSuburb #WindhoekNamibiaAvisDam #SouthernAfrica

Avis is a suburb in Khomas and has an elevation of 1,702 metres. Avis is situated east of Klein Windhoek, and south of Ludwigsdorf.

Avis Dam

The Avis Dam is a dam outside of Windhoek, Namibia. It was built in 1933 by the South African colonial authorities. It first flooded in April 1934, but only exceeded 75% again in 2007.

Hiking and Wildlife at Avis Dam in Windhoek

Especially with the German and English speaking community of Windhoek, the Avis Dam is a popular destination to go on a walk with the dogs or to do some birding. With this article, I want to show you that the reservoir and the area around the dam is a worthwhile destination and I want to give you some tips for hiking routes.

General information about the Avis Dam

The Avis Dam is located at the eastern entry to the city of Windhoek in the suburb Avis. A dam wall dams the inflow of water of two rivers. However, the inflow is very low in the rainy season and therefore it is rare that the reservoir has enough water. Mostly there is only a small puddle, and sometimes it is completely dry.

The dam was completed in 1933 and has a capacity of 2.4 million cubic meters. Since the reservoir makes no significant contribution to the water supply for Windhoek, the area is now valued primarily as a recreational area.

What can you experience at Avis Dam?

Many citizens of Windhoek like to go to the Avis Dam. For this there are two reasons:

You can take your dogs for a walk. The dogs are free to roam.
The area is a hotspot if you want to do birding.
Unfortunately, these two motivations are not always compatible with each other: free running dogs and their owners chase away the birds. Nevertheless – if you come to a time of day when there are few walkers, and especially when there is so much water in the dam that hardly anyone walks around the reservoir, you can make great bird observations. For bird lovers: forget the weekend, especially in the afternoon. Come on a weekday, preferably early in the morning and go to the eastern side of the lake.

Today the area is managed by a non-profit organisation “Friends of Avis Dam”, a subgroup of Greenspace. Not only is the site maintained and kept clean, but security personnel is also provided.

Driving in upmarket Ludwigsdorf suburb Windhoek, Namibia, southern Africa, part 1

A video of upmarket suburb of Windhoek - Ludwigsdorf in Namibia. Part 1 of 2.

#Ludwigsdorf #Namibia #Windhoek #SouthernAfrica

Windhoek:

Ludwigsdorf is is an affluent suburb of Windhoek and is situated on the slopes of the Eros Mountains, in the far eastern part of the city - the capital of Namibia, southern Africa. Ludwigsdorf borders on Klein Windhoek suburb and is located near road to Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport and further to Gobabis and border with Botswana. A ridge in the south of Ludwigsdorf separates the suburb from the Avis Dam, and the B6 national road from the Luxury Hill suburb, another well-off and older residential area.

Ludwigsdorf is the most expensive residential area in Windhoek and is also home to numerous embassies, diplomatic missions and residencies of ambassadors and embassies staff.

The neighborhood was named after John Ludwig, whose tomb here is a National Monument. Veronica Cemetery, almost unknown burial site of indigenous inhabitants of Windhoek with old graves dating back to early 20 century, is located in cul-de-sac of the street with the same name.

The main streets in Ludwigsdorf suburb are: Mission Road, Hebenstreit Street, Herzinger Street, Ziegler Street, Schafer Street, Anna Street, Franke Street.

Ludwigsdorf is a home for several embassies and diplomatic missions, including Chinese, French and Italian embassies.
Together with Luxury Hill, Klein Windhoek and Olympia, Ludwigsdorf is the most affluent suburb of Namibia's capital.

DRIVING THOUGH UPMARKET KLEIN WINDHOEK SUBURB IN WINDHOEK NAMIBIA SOUTHERN AFRICA PART 1

Klein Windhoek (German, literally: Windhoek Minor) is an affluent and the oldest suburb of Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, southern Africa. Part 1 of 3.

#KleinWindhoekSuburb #CapitalOfNamibia #SouthernAfrica

Windhoek:

Windhoek John Ludwig's Grave & Mausoleum:

The British explorer James Alexander had already visited the area in 1837. Klein Windhoek is the oldest part of the town, having been established in 1840 by Jonker Afrikaner and his 800-strong group. He had requested the services of a missionary, and the Rhenish Missionary Society (RMS) built the first house in the area in the same year. In 1842, missionaries Carl Hugo Hahn and Franz Heinrich Kleinschmidt worked here. They called the place Elberfeld, but Jonker Afrikaner's name prevailed. They were replaced by Wesleyan missionaries in 1844.

In 1896, Roman Catholic missionaries arrived. They purchased the RMS land in 1899 and converted it into an orchard and vineyard.

Klein Windhoek is a residential suburb with mostly white population resulting in very high property prices. Many foreign diplomatic missions are located in Klein Windhoek including South African High Commission (old Berg Hotel building) and Russian Embassy.

Klein Windhoek was a first location where German colonial Schutztruppe were stationed near Ai-Gams (Nama for hot water) water springs.

John Ludwig is considered to be the founder of Klein Windhoek. He opened «Ludwigslust» restaurant in Klein Windhoek around 1892 and was also engaged in tobacco farming. He was born in Germany on 03 April 1857 in Ludwigslust and bought a farm in Griqualand West in South Africa after completion of his service in the Cape Police. Unfortunately his farm was sold by auction in his absence when he was travelling in then German South West Africa that led to his decision to emigrate to Namibia in 1887. John Ludwig worked as a driver for the German Schutztruppe for some time and he moved to Windhoek in 1892 settling in Klein Windhoek.

John Ludwig died in Windhoek on 27 February 1913 after a stomach surgery and was the first person to be buried in Klein Windhoek cemetery. His wife Lida died in 1954 and buried beside him.

More settlers followed John Ludwig. His mausoleum and family burial grounds can still be viewed in Ludwigsdorf suburb, near Klein Windhoek. Small cemetery contains graves of the Ludwig and Hopfner families, ten other adults and six children including John and Lida Ludwig’s children, Angela and John. Due to its historical importance as well as for the architectural significance of its mausoleum John Ludwig’s graveyard and mausoleum was proclaimed a national monument on 01 May 1967.

Car boot sale at Joe's Beer House in Windhoek, Namibia

Video of car boot sale of unwanted items at Joe's Beer House Restaurant's parking lot, Windhoek.

#FleaMarket #Windhoek #Namibia

Windhoek:

The Car Boot Sale at Joe’s Beerhouse parking lot has become an institution. It is like a flea market with the difference that items are virtually sold out of a Car Boot. Joe’s Beerhouse facilitates the platform for the community to generate income by selling unused items and for others to purchase goods and antiques at bargain prices.

The event is held every second month on a Saturday morning from 8am to 11am. Coffee and rolls are also available. Parties interested in becoming a vendor can register at Joe's Beer House.

Goods can also be donated to the Lions Club Charity Organization. They are present with their own stand at each event, you only need to drop off your goods at their stand. These donated items are sold by them to generate money in order to support significant charity projects like orphanages, old age homes, maternity wards and so the list goes on.

Wether you are an antiques lover, a collector, a bookworm, or a music lover, there is something for all ages! From Books, Tools, Toys, Music, Art, Antiques and so much more!
You know what they say.... One man's scrap is another man's gold!

The Best Known Restaurant in Namibia - Joe's Beerhouse! Visit us for our Namibian cuisine with a German twist, we serve a mean steak, the coldest beer & the friendliest service.

Car boot sale at Joe's Beerhouse

From an inaugural event in 2013 that attracted only two cars, to a current average of 32 cars per event, Joe’s Beerhouse’s initiative to host regular car boot sale is proving a hit. Hosted monthly in the parking lot of the Windhoek restaurant, the next event is scheduled soon.

“The idea of the car boot sale is that people can load their unwanted goods in the boot of their cars and bring it to the parking area and then put it on display in front of their cars for the buyers,” Joe’s Beerhouse says.

Vendors are charged N$150 per stand, and are allowed onto the premises at 07:00 to start arranging their displays and exhibitions.

The main gates are expected to be opened to the public, at 08:00.

Exam Results
“The car boot sale at Joe’s Beerhouse is a great platform to earn some pocket money, but more importantly it creates possibilities for low-income earners to come by items that they normally would not be able to afford, as a lot of hardly used items are sold for very cheap prices,” the restaurant management says.

“Many antiques collectors also find an occasional treasure amongst the items for sale.”

People who wish to donate unwanted items to a good cause can drop them off at the stand of the Lions. The welfare organisation uses the funds generated to support old-age homes, orphanages and similar projects.

Coffee and rolls are sold at the event.

Bar chronicles in Joe's Beer House Restaurant in Windhoek, Namibia

Joe's Beer House - best beer in Windhoek, Namibia.

A short video of the most popular authentic restaurant in Windhoek, Namibia - bar's chronicles.

Address: 160 Nelson Mandela Avenue, Windhoek, Namibia.

Windhoek:

Joe’s Beerhouse is for those who like the road less travelled. A place where the unexpected can occur, where quirky is normal, and where nothing is ordinary. A bit like Namibia really. Comfortably, gloriously different.
