Unseen SAUDI ARABIA Village Food!! Whole Goat RICE PLATTER in Jazan (Yemen Border)!!

???????? Saudi Arabian Food Tour:
????️ Get Smoked Ghost Pepper:
???? Subscribe:

JAZAN, SAUDI ARABIA: High in the mountains of Saudi Arabia, in the very southwestern corner, on the border of Yemen, is Jazan province. It’s a unique part of Saudi Arabia, where some of the world’s most prized coffee in grown and where the mix of culture and food is unlike other parts of the country. Today we have the privilege to visit a local coffee farm where a local family will be cooking a full goat haneed in the backyard.

We began our journey from Jizan city, in the Jazan province of Saudi Arabia. The city is located on the Red Sea, yet just an hour drive away to Fayfa, and you’re transported high into the rugged green mountains that are famous for generations of coffee farming.

Coffee is more than just a drink here, it’s a symbol of hospitality and a gesture of welcome. The coffee is much different than your typical Americano - it’s roasted very lightly, and brewed with cardamom and saffron for a unique fragrance. Rather than using sugar, coffee is served black, but with dates so you can alternate between sips of coffee and sweet dates. The combination is perfect.

After a welcome and coffee, we lit the outdoor wood fire oven, and then took a tour of the farm to learn about the prized Khawlani coffee beans. The farming practice has been passed down for generations in this area. Along with coffee, there were many medical edible herbs throughout the mountain.

Back to the oven, we loaded up an entire goat, along with big handfuls of sour dough, scented with the aroma green leaves. The oven was closed tight for a couple of hours to seal in all the steam and smoke. This cooking technique is common in Saudi Arabia and really does a great job of smoking, baking, and steaming all at the same time.

The time finally came, and we dished out all the tender goat on the rice trays. There were also a number of side dishes, including fresh buttermilk served in a smoky wooden bowl, a variety of doughs served with ghee, and possibly the highlight for me; helba, a sudsy fenugreek sauce that’s definitely a unique flavor, and loved in this region.

It was a meal I’ll never forget, in this friendly coffee village in the mountains of Jazan!

Hisham:

Thank you to Visit Saudi Arabia for arranging my food trip to Saudi Arabia!

Traveling is all fun and games... until you eat something that wrecks your stomach and you need to find a toilet every 30 minutes.

I am a victim of getting food poisiong about once a month or so, and I have a severe case of it right now in Yemen.

Traveling in Yemen is rough as is -- with frequent power outages, lack of running water and A/C -- so this is just making it a little bit harder. But it's not going to stop me from finishing this trip strong!

Have you ever had traveler's diarrhea? What remedies do you recommend to make it go away? Would love to get your thoughts to help me to a speedy recovery!

Eating on the Floor with NO FORKS!! (Mauritania)

THE FOOD IN MAURITANIA IS SO GOOD!

I was lucky enough to be invited into a local home for a traditional lunch today. Little did I know they dine while sitting on the floor and eat with their hands (no spoons, forks or knives). I cannot decide which I enjoyed more -- the taste of the food or the entire experience in itself. Let's just say both!

They dressed me in a boubou - a long, white, loose-fitting traditional garment that is typically worn every day by men. All I can say is that life is great out here in the Sahara desert!

P.S. Do you want me to do more food videos? To be honest, I prefer cultural/people videos over food, but if this gets good feedback then I will sprinkle these in more often!

Hello to all my friends, family, and followers -- I have arrived safely in Yemen and I will be exploring deep into the country by myself and one local guide over the next week.

Yemen is (by far) the most difficult country in the world to visit in terms of logistics (getting a visa, planning, etc) and staying safe. I'm sure you are aware that since 2011, Yemen has been in a constant state of war. Tourists are not welcome here, and it's extremely risky for any traveler to visit at this moment -- especially as both an American and a journalist. I am double at risk.

That all being said, I am beyond excited to have this rare opportunity to take you inside one of the most hidden and raw cultures left on earth. My first 24 hours have already been one hell of an emotional ride (as you'll see in this video) -- and you will be hearing lots more over the coming week.

You won't want to miss this series, trust me!

This Girl Can't Escape YEMEN (Sad Story)

This is the story of a young girl named Fatima, who was born and raised in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but was forced to move to Yemen 6 years ago.

While most civilians in Yemen are doing everything they can to flee this horrific situation, she has done the opposite. She went from living in a modern and peaceful country to an impoverished and dangerous one, and it's been difficult for her to adapt.

Can you imagine being trapped in Yemen after growing up in an advanced society in Riyadh? As much as she wants to leave to study, she must wait until the situation clears up and the borders/airports reopen.

This video also explains her perspective on what must be done for Yemen to overcome this disaster and go back to how life used to be 10 years ago. It's a fascinating interview and I enjoyed hearing her thoughts. I hope you do too.

The Black Market of Gasoline (Yemen)

► SUBSCRIBE for daily travel videos:
► INSTAGRAM? Join me @drewbinsky!

Yemen is having many problems at the moment, but the most obvious to me so far has been the shortage of gasoline. We've driven over 14 hours so far from the Oman/Yemen border to the city of Mukalla, and it was a wild experience every time we had to stop at the gas station.

Instead of using normal gas stations (which are mostly out of gas), there are young kids on motorbikes who track you down on the road and offer to fill up your car with illegal gasoline. The price has increased 300% over the last few years because the of the short supply.

What's ironic is that Yemen does sit on an abundance of oil reserves, but unfortunately, they are being taken advantage of by their neighbors and are unable to use much of that gas for themselves.

The Unhealthy Life of a Traveler...

???? My JUST GO APP is here! Connect w/ travelers for free:

Constant travel is a lot more unhealthy than you think. I am the most overweight, unhealthy and lazy I've ever been in my entire life. You might not realize this happening 'behind the scenes' -- but life as a nonstop traveler surely has its downfalls.

This unhealthy travel lifestyle has come as a result of constant jet lag, changing time zones, climates, cuisines, frequent cases of food poisoning (like right now), a lack of working out, and most of my meals being either airplane food, hotel buffets or street food.

I've tried to start working out countless times, but it's almost impossible because I don't have a consistent routine when I travel. And it leads to a very unhealthy life.

Do you have any tips for me to stay healthy on the road? I would really appreciate it!

What's Next for YEMEN? ????????(final thoughts)

I AM OUT OF YEMEN SAFELY.

My scheduled flight tomorrow out of Yemen was cancelled and moved today, so I had to rush to the airport this morning to (unfortunately) leave the country. I am now in Cairo.

This past week in Yemen has been one of the most eye opening journeys of my life. It was a roller coaster of emotions and I learned a lot about myself and the detrimental situation happening inside of this vulnerable Arabian nation.

This video recaps my thoughts on Yemen as I try to wrap my head around what I just experienced. I also share my 2 cents on what I think needs to happen for Yemen to rebuild and come together moving forward.

I will end my Yemen series by telling you this -- from the bottom of my heart, I had an amazing time in this country and I feel really bad for the people here. They showed me nothing but kindness and respect, and it is horrible to witness the struggles that they are living through. I will be keeping Yemen closely in my thoughts until things get better. If you feel touched, then I will ask you to SHARE this video because Yemen can use any positive attention it can get.

Pakistani KATAKAT & Kadhai Gosht I Goat Offal - Brain, Kidney, Testicles I Iranian Kababs in Dubai

Today's episode is the concluding one of our Dubai Food Series. It brings together our culinary experiences at four popular restaurants in the megacity which makes it to the most recommended list. And to guide us on this gustatory journey we have with us our gracious hosts turned friends Mona, Lalatendu, Sachin, Ehtesham Rabbani, Dania and Vishal.

Our first stop was Al Fareej Restaurant and Bakery. It specializes in Iranian cuisine and we opted for a mixed kabab platter. The succulent and glistening kabab came along with a huge assortment of condiments. There was chelo kabab, lamb kebab, yogurt kebab etc. We paired it with zereshk polo or Middle Eastern berry pulao, fattoush and laban. The meat used in the kabab was of superb quality that you can feel in every bite. The highlight of this place is the huge floor sitting arrangement outside the restaurant. Families and groups of friends could be seen having a great time together over a huge spread of food.

The second stop was Al Meshwar restaurant that specializes in Lebanese cuisine. It boasts of a grand palatial facade with grand interiors. Our friends took us there to taste some classic Lebanese sweets and desserts like pistachio baklava, kunafa, awama and the star pistachio mafroukeh which consists of a layer of pistachio and milk based dough topped with clotted cream and sugar syrup. Everything was delicious but the last one was absolutely divine.

From there we went to our third stop named the Jumeirah Falcon restaurant for shawarma. This eatery is one of the favourite shawarma places of our hosts. Khubz bread stuffed with tender and smoky shavings of rotisserie grilled chicken, garlic spread and pickled veggies made for a comforting bite. After finishing the shawarma we also ordered a hasan mattar, another popular street food in this part of the world. It is a soft and thick khubz bread stuffed with grilled chicken pieces, garlic sauce, hot sauce and French fries. The interplay of textures and flavours makes it an impressive find.

The fourth and final destination was a popular Pakistani restaurant named Muhammed Faizal restaurant which is famous for a meat based dish from Karachi called Katakat. The name is derived from the sound made during the preparation of this unique spicy dish.
