Top 10 tips to stay Warm and Dry on a Long Motorcycle Trip!

How to stay Warm and Dry on a Long Motorcycle Trip?

The Essential Guide to Any Motorcycle Traveler - Online Course:

We all know how great is to ride in the nice sunny day, but it is a different story when it’s cold or when it’s raining. In this video I will give you 10 practical tips

If you go on the long motorcycle trip it is almost guaranteed that there will be some really cold days, maybe rain, or both at the same time. You have to face the reality and confess that there are some negatives of riding motorcycle.

1. Rain gear.
It is so obvious, buy a decent rain gear. It doesn’t matter how good and how expensive is your riding gear. There is no 100% waterproof. It could be after 5 minutes or after 5 hours, but it will start leaking. Choose a model with two parts – top and bottom. The full body suits are nice, but it is very difficult to wear it, especially on the road.

2. Wear it on time.
Yes, correct, wear it on time. The rain never start just like that from no were. You will feel it, see it and even smell it a long before it starts. Do not believe that it could be just few drops and your gear will survive. If it’s not will be too late. If you soak your gear, will be useless to have the rain coat on the top. It will make everything worst – the water will penetrate your gear and will come inside.

3. Synthetic materials.
Use only synthetic materials. They do not hold the water and dry quick. Probably you have heard the phrase: “ Cotton kills” – correct, with cotton clothes you can put yourself in real troubles.

4. Dress on layers.
Layers are the key. On the hot days – just t-shirt. When it become cold add another with long leaves on the top. If it’s not enough switcher on the top. It is very handy, especially when you have to cross the mountains. On the picks is cold, but after few km hot again. When you have layers you can easily fix this.

5. Nice size wind shield.
Sounds not on the place, but believe me it is. It protect not only from the wind, but also from the rain. It is the same with the hand guards. If you have both you will notice a significant difference, especially when it’s not raining hard. You will be almost un touch. When you don’t need to stop all the wind with your chest will be much easier to keep your body warm.

6. Medical gloves.
I told you about it in the previous video, but I will do it again. You can wear it under your gloves and they will keep your hands dry and warm. Cost nothing, but will make big difference.

7. Rain boot covers.
Do not forget to buy one. The boots are the same as the riding gear. It will be a matter of time to start leaking. With the covers you just double secure the situation.

8. Pin lock
If your helmet come with pin lock great, If not you can buy an universal and mounted on your visor. You will be so thankful when it starts raining.

9. Wind stopper.
Buy a nice full face wind stopper. Small and light like this are fine, but when the weather change you will need something like this. It will help you in the cold, but also on the raining days. As you can see it completely cover my head, my neck and part of my chest. Once you zip your jacket you will feel a big difference.

10. Waterproof bags
Bags like this you can find in almost any motorcycle or hiking gear shops. They are cheap, but will keep all of your stuff dry. It doesn’t matter do you have soft bags or hard cases you can use it in both. They will also help you to have some order. For example you can have big size for the clothes and small for socks, under ware, electronics and so on.

Many of you asked me: what gear I use and where they can find it? I have created this Amazon shop to make it easy for you.
Note: The links I am going to provide are Affiliate. An affiliate link means, that I will earn a small commission, if you decide to buy something and it doesn’t cost you any extra. I don’t feel as if you owe me anything, but if you are going to buy the product anyway, then why not?

1. Choose your ultimate destination. Have an ultimate set destination in mind, as well as set destinations for each night you’ll have for your trip. Some of our favorite destinations are motorcycle rides to national parks. These offer some of the best motorcycle riding America has to offer.
2. Decide how many days it will take to get there, and how many miles and hours you want to ride per day. This depends on your motorcycle and your stamina.
3. Figure your motorcycle's MPG and range on a full tank. Plan fuel stops well before your bike gets to empty. Reset the trip odometer every time you fuel up.
4. Pack your motorcycle bags selectively. Make sure you pack food, water, maps, flashlight and tire repair kit, as well as a physical map of the state you're riding in.
5. Tune your bike beforehand, and check tire pressure each morning.
6. Only ride during daylight hours. You’ll want to see the road clearly. Potholes, rocks or other debris will be much harder to see in the dark. Wildlife will also be much more prevalent at night.
7. Plan accommodations for 3-6 hours riding distance per day on Google Maps when figuring your motorcycle road trip each day.
8. Consider taking a friend. Solo rides are therapeutic, but you don't want to get stranded all alone. At the very least, tell someone about your motorcycle route itinerary.
9. Keep your phone off or on airplane mode while riding. Preserve your battery.
10. Be adaptable. There may be excessive traffic, road closures or extreme weather that could change your plans. Choose motels or Airbnb's that offer free cancellation.

It's FREEZING, How to Ride in the Winter Cold - Motorcycle Riding Hangout, Stories from the Saddle

Subscribe Here:

Riding at high speeds during the winter is cold—not just cold, really cold. A wintertime ride will chill you to the bone faster than you’d ever believe thanks to the brutal wind and the relative lack of full-body movement to warm you up. That means that dangerous cold-weather conditions like hypothermia and frostbite can come into play. Today I’m going to give you my tips for winter riding.

Is it too difficult to bear the thought of your bike sitting unused in the garage until the trees have leaves again? For many people, riding is an all-year passion that never takes a break. Conventional wisdom says that you shouldn’t ride in the winter, but for many people who truly love riding, that’s all the more incentive to get back behind the bars.

5 Tips for Riding a Motorcycle in the Rain

The Essential Guide to Any Motorcycle Traveler - Online Course:

The very first advice I will give you is to avoid it if you have this chance of course. Riding in the rain is not that dangerous as most of you believe but you always need to keep in mind that risk is double if we compare it with the dry days. Pavlin, what you are talking about! Your advice on how to ride in the rain is don't ride in the rain? Did you lost your mind? No no no, calm down, I will give you the tips that I have promised! With this, I am not saying that you shouldn't ride in the rain, the point is to avoid it if you have the chance. A few hours or even a day are not going to change anything but definitely might save you a lot of problems and even your life. Tip N: 1 - Prepare yourself and the bikeThe rain never comes just like that. You will see it from a long distance and thanks to the modern telephones you will know about it for at least a couple of hours. This will give you the chance to be prepared. Put on your raingear. Even if you have a waterproof gear keep in mind is that nothing lasts forever. Soon or later it will start leaking and then you will have a problem. Of course, I am talking about serious rain, not for drop or two. Tip N: 2 - Ride gently in the rain is like riding on the dirt roads. Do it with the speed that you can control. If this is 50, keep it, don't let anyone press you or telling you what to do. Safety is the most important, do not forget that! Keep in mind that the first 15 to 20 min the surface will be very slippery until the rain washes the dust, after that will be fine. Tip N: 3 - Keep distance this will give you more time to react if someone stops unexpectedly. If so try to stop and if you see that it is not going to be possible try to avoid the collision by going left or right. I will play it again and will tell you what is going on. I have heard many people telling that in a situation like this you have to put the bike down, but I think this will be the worst thing that you can make. Keep the bike straight, try to stop or at least slowdown and avoid the obstacle. Tip: 4 - Be careful with the lines on the road especially with tram rails or any metal covers. This is more important in the cities but the same rules apply everywhere. For example, I have seen in a few places exactly on the bends a thick white line to inform the drivers and slowdown but these are terrible for motorcycle riders in the rain. When you see it always try to keep the bike as straight as possible and don't press the brakes or twist the throttle on it. Wait until you go over it and then you can do it. Avoid potholes especially when they are full of water because you have no idea how deep they might be. Tip N: 5 - Overtake very gently. Do it very slowly and make sure that the driver knows that you are there, especially with trucks. They have many big wheels and the water will make big water fountains behind the truck. When you combine this with the foggy mirrors and maybe distracting from the radio or the telephone you will be absolutely invisible to the driver. I don't need even to remind you that the light needs to be always on. Luckily on the new bikes, the lights are on all the time as a standard. If you already have some additional lights now is the moment to use it, if not switch to high beam. This will help to be more visible. Don't worry you are not going to blind anyone, except you are not riding in the night but the combination of rain and night riding is not something that I will never recommend doing. Bonus TipThe best way to prevent any accident and it doesn't matter if it rain or not is to ride on your own limits. Never put yourself in a situation that you cannot control and always keep in mind that mistakes happen very fast no one is prepared for it! Join this channel to get access to perks:

Best place to ride a motorcycle in the winter

Live in the northern hemisphere? Does the winter disrupt your riding? You may wish to take a look at this destination.
Each year we are drawn here to ride to escape the northern European winter to enjoy some fabulous riding on twisty warm dry roads and its not as expensive as you may think. All you need is a passport and an air-plane ticket.

We highly recommend

We use Canary motorcycle tours because of the knowledge of their tour guides to show you the best roads, most scenic areas and some of the best local authentic Canarian eateries. They also make for a stress free holiday by booking you in a choice of hotels near their base. They have bikes to suit short and tall riders together with riding gear and safety equipment.
My full tour vids from our 2018 visit :

Nordkapp in Winter on Motorcycles - Episode 5

EN - We pushed our limits that day and finally we made it to Nordkapp just before the storm hit.
TR - Sınırlarımızı zorladık ve fırtına başlamadan nihayet Nordkapp'a vardık.
