How I moved to Costa Rica

Moving to Costa Rica from the USA can be a difficult task in many ways, it was for me. This video diary of my struggles to sell my house, sell my car, get my passport renewed and all the other things involved to make the move to Costa Rica begins in May of 2020 and ends with my arrival in Costa Rica in April of 2021. This is also an interesting time capsule documenting what life was like during the Covid pandemic. I admit living alone and working at home was making me a little stir crazy! This video is broken up into chapters for easy navigation.

8 Reasons Why Americans LEAVE Costa Rica [Why I Left]

The TRUTH about living in Costa Rica: Why do so many Americans leave Costa Rica after moving there? In this video, I explain what causes expats to change their minds about retiring abroad and why I left Costa Rica after 8 years. Some of the initial reasons that people want to move to Costa Rica include the moderate climate, laid back lifestyle, fresh and healthy food, friendly people, beaches, medical tourism, and the low cost of living. But is Costa Rica really a safe and friendly country or is it actually dangerous and expensive? Once they arrive, many people realize that living in Costa Rica wasn't quite what they expected. Unfortunately, that results in people returning home quite soon after arriving.

After helping more than 500 foreigners move to Costa Rica and living there for eight years, this video explains the top reasons why people move back to the USA and why I left, too, so that you know more about what to expect BEFORE you get there. This is the real and sometimes dark truth about living in Costa Rica. What do you think are the biggest pros and cons of living in Costa Rica? Let us know in the comments.

SO.. We Moved to Costa Rica!

SO.. We Moved to Costa Rica!

It's something that myself and the wife have wanted to explore for years, but as l mentioned briefly in the video TLM was too important to pump he brakes on, we wanted to see where it went. Now unfortunate in someways it has returned to where it started as simply a hobby and moved a long way from being work. But l am grateful because it freed up the space for my family to do this. TLM are still going and the TLM ratio will be back soon, l will just be recording from here!

Moving to Costa Rica - Uncommon Tips You Won't Find Anywhere Else (15 Years Experience)

From humidity, bugs, pet health, power outages to real dangers; we've got a crash course in tropical living to help you get a good start.

While moving to a tropical destination is full of up-sides:
Beautiful beaches
Swimming and snorkeling
Activities like sailing and fishing
Sunset cocktails
Lively music and dancing

There are a few downsides that while very manageable will come with a learning curve if you’ve always lived somewhere more temperate.

HUMIDITY

* Invest in a few humidity control packs for closets, cabinets and small spaces and change them regularly.
* Install a little fan in the closet to circulate air.
* Separate the hanging clothes enough so they are not touching.
* You can store folded clothes in suction bags as long as the clothes are clean when they go in.
* Rotate clothes washing frequently, doing small loads instead of waiting for clothes to accumulate (a laundry hamper is a prime clothes deterioration station and also a haven for scorpions, just saying) and above all make sure they are as clean and dry as possible before storing.
* Typical houses don’t usually have hot running water for the washing machine (assuming you are blessed enough to even have one!) so for undergarments give them a wash in some hot, hot water and a little extra scrubbing or bleach to get them really clean.

Electronics

Corrosion

Important paperwork

BUGS

KEEPING YOUR DOG SAFE

POWER OUTAGES

REAL DANGER - Short and sweet

Plummeting bowling balls

Rip tides

We will end on a happier note: Mangos!

With this knowledge, plus the other tips and tricks everyone else is sharing about theft, medical care, residency etc. your move to paradise will be a breeze.

Cheers! And happy travels!
