San Marino Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

San Marino – With an area of just over 20 square miles, join us as we explore Europe’s third smallest country. Make no mistake, there’s no shortage of cool spots to check out.

When ready, browse vacation packages to San Marino:

Find the longstanding city-state, #SanMarino, in eastern Italy’s countryside. A #vacation here means enjoying age-old architecture, excellent food, and shopping delights.

Rising from the republic’s rolling hills is Mount Titano, where the country’s founder, Saint Marinus, sought refuge in the 3rd Century. Over the centuries, three towers were built to ward off invaders; today these towers watch over a country overflowing with history, culture and beauty.

Just beyond the towers lies the republic’s ancient capital, San Marino City. The heart and soul of this city is Liberty Square, home to the Statue of Liberty and the Palazzo Pubblico. Wherever you turn you’ll see tributes to the republic’s founder, no more so than in San Marino Basilica, where the bones of the saint now rest beneath the altar.

San Marino is a welcoming escape for lovers of art and history, and a tax-free haven for shoppers.

For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

SAN MARINO travel tips - facts and guide to this tiny and amazing country!

Read More:

San Marino is one of the smallest countries in the world and the least visited in Europe but here are some interesting facts and regions to visit this republic!

For such a minuscule country, San Marino provides a fascinating collection of unique facts, outstanding views and an impressive history. Given its size though, many people opt to take just a day trip to San Marino from one of it’s neighbouring Italian cities and not spend a night or more getting to know it.

As the fifth smallest country in the world, and surrounded by Italy, it’s easy to see how San Marino could merely be a novelty country tick while travelling around the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. But I for one think that this micro-state deserves at least one night of your vacation.

SAN MARINO! World's 5th smallest country | childhood stamp collection | Bonelli Bus from Rimini

In my teenage days I had an album with stamps from around the world. One stood out - from San Marino. I decided one day I would visit the worlds 5th smallest country. But first, I had to find the Bonelli Bus from Rimini.

Filmed March 2023 | Rimini, Italy.

Why DON'T People Visit SAN MARINO? A Hidden Gem of Europe

I visited the world's fifth smallest country, San Marino, and explored everything there is to do in this hidden gem of Europe.

Just around 33 500 people live in San Marino, at an area of 61 square kilometers. It's one of three countries in the world that's completely landlocked inside another country. The other two are the Vatican and Lesotho - but this is definitely the most beautiful of the landlocked countries.

The most famous landmark of San Marino is probably the three towers located on the three peaks of Mount Titano, which is where the capital of San Marino is also located. The three towers are called Guaita, Cesta and Montale. Montale, the third tower, is not open to the public, but the other two are well worth a visit.

I also explore other things to do in San Marino, ranging from getting a San Marino visa at an exporbitant cost, looking at the Basilica di San Marino, looking at the different museums in the city, such as the impressive State Museum, and watching the changing of the guard at Piazza della Liberta, by the Palazzo Pubblico.

The Palazzo Pubblico also serves as San Marino's town hall, and it's an absolutely gorgeous place that's lit up at night.

Aside from beautiful views this video also dives into the history of San Marino, and various other places to visit, like Borgo Maggiore, a nearby town. There's surprisingly lot ot see in such a small country, so I hope you will find this interesting!
