Can you sail around the world for less than $9000 per person per year? We get asked over and over about how much it costs us to live this life sailing full time around the world. Now, after sailing half way around the world from England to Australia over 3 years, we have enough data to answer it properly. We have tracked every single penny that we have spent over the last 3 years so we can now share how much it REALLY costs to sail around the world. This video is not how to sail around world on the cheap, it is just an explanation of how much WE have spent and WHAT we have spent it on. We hope that by sharing this information it will allow others who have a similar dream, to understand the costs involved in sailing around the world.

HOW TO SAIL AROUND THE WORLD
Although it may seem crazy to sail around the world, once you analyze the various wind patterns and hurricane seasons and with a bit of planning it’s quite reasonable for anyone with a sense of adventure to do the same. There’s lots of ways to sail around the world. If you’re racing, you often use storms in the southern ocean to propel you along. It’s a completely different approach. One that requires serious boats that are built for those conditions. We on the other hand sail around the world by staying more or less in the trade wind belts. This stacks the odds in our favour. We often have the wind and waves behind, pushing us along and stay warm in the non-stop tropical conditions.

The questions we most often get asked are What's it like to live on a boat and cruise the world ? and How much does it cost?
These are difficult questions which is why we've avoided them for three years! But the time has come.
In this video we go through our whole experience so far. Five years of living on a boat and three years of cruising. We try and give some insight into the life and the costs.
The reason we tried to sidestep this video until now is because there are plenty of other videos out there on the cost of sailing. However, it has been pointed out to us that just about all of them are people in their 20s and 30s, most trying to do this on an absolute minimum budget. As we know, YouTubers aside, the vast majority of cruisers out there on the water are in their 50s and 60s so this one's for you guys.
I know there will be a million questions so fire ahead in the comments. I'll anticipate one and answer no, I have no idea how much I spend on beer!

Whitehaven Beach, Where for Art Thou? Ep. 89
Well, Whitehaven Beach has got to be one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen. It has this sand that is so white it actually hurts your eyes and if you’re not wearing sunglasses for some bizarre reason, you have to go to the optometrist and have your eye balls checked out. Seriously what an epic week on the water, this has got to be the highlight of our trip so far. Don’t believe the hype, sailing Channels are selling you a lie. Bottom line? The vast majority of cruisers are over 50 and do not post videos about their adventures. YouTube sailing channels are generally made by young fun-lovers, but most cruisers are 'old' freedom lovers.
