My Current Routine to Learn Spanish???????? #languagelearning #spanish

Hi my name is Jenna and this is my current routine to learn Spanish while living and working in Sevilla, Spain :)
Learning Spanish has always been a dream of mine. For 10 years I have been on and off studying it and one of my biggest realizations is that- just moving to a new country won't make you learn the language! Growing up in the United States, the only people I knew who had successfully learned a second language from scratch were Spanish teachers in my school. It is very hard to grasp how to learn a language if you do not have any examples around you. It makes you vulnerable into becoming a victim of the I did not grow up speaking a second language, so it is too late for me mindset that we have in the states.
Throughout my journey of teaching English, I have learned from my sharpest students in what they have done to perfect their language skills. It was eye opening and has allowed me to formulate a routine that has exponentially helped improve my understanding and speaking skills. I realized that in learning a second language, I was learning HOW to learn a language.
Here is my current routine:
1. Listen to the Duolingo Spanish podcast in the morning - this is an intermediate level podcast, but it helps warm up my brain on the way to work :)
2. Journal in Spanish - I love doing this. Writing in Spanish is now so much and it has pushed me to use new vocabulary and grammar that I usually avoid while speaking.
3. Advanced podcast - Lately I have been listening to Spanish with Antonio (he has a great podcast and it is great understanding practice for the Andalusian accent)
4. Write down new words you hear. I end up look up the words on ‘Spanishdict’ once I hear them and screenshot them to write it down later. Slowly and surely this has been expanding my vocabulary.
5. Duolingo - Great refresher on vocabulary and structure.
6. Watch a Spanish tv show - this is such a fun way to practice :) We just finished 'La cocinera de Castamar' and started 'Club de Cuervos'. ALL of my best English speaking students watch English shows. This one is a game changer & it's so easy!
*Things I also do that were not included*
7. Italki - One of the most important things in learning a language is speaking practice. I take one online Spanish class a week.
8. Intercambio - When we can, we enjoy going to an intercambio in Sevilla. We can make new friends and try some casual Spanish chit chat!

I hope you find this helpful and best of luck to you in your language learning journey. I am not yet fluent in the language, but I improve day by day. We got this!

The 100% Foolproof Way Of Learning Any Language is..

For the past 18 years, I've only had one hobby that I never gave up: learning foreign languages. A bit of a strange choice for an American, I know. But I had a good reason for it. I wanted to travel the world someday, even though I didn't have the money to do it. If I learned Spanish, that had to help somehow with getting me to Latin America, right?

Turns out it did. Most people think learning a language is extremely difficult and you have to be super smart to do it. Nah. You speak English, don't you? Well you've already learned one language then. Learning more is as simple as knowing how to study languages on your own, following a good framework, and having lots of persistence. In this video I'll lay out the steps I use to learn any language. Follow them, and the world is yours.

Can Ollie Learn Spanish in a Week?

We attempted to refute our claim that it's impossible to learn a language in a week. For seven days, we spoke no English, only Spanish - you are watching the result.

Ollie already knew some basic Spanish before the challenge from the compulsory year we did at school. A special mention to Mr Warbis for instilling in us a fascination for the Spanish-speaking world.

This video was only possible as a result of the wonderful hospitality offered by Mr and Mrs Moore in Alicante and Livia in Madrid.

Thank you to the wonderful Luna and everyone at Escuela Elcano.

Lastly, thanks to Clara for help with the subtitles. The one glaring error we've noticed since uploading the video was purely of Sebastian's own doing. A rule of thumb: listen to Clara.

The Intense Methods I used to learn Spanish over the age of 45

Like most folks, I took several years of Spanish instruction in high school more than 29 years ago. But, like most folks, I didn't use it, so it was as good as gone when I moved to Mexico. This video is about my journey and the steps I took to learn Spanish as an older adult over 45. In addition, this video is intended to inspire others who plan to move to Mexico to let you know that you can learn if I did as an adult. Buckle up because THIS VIDEO IS very different from any I've made in the past. I hope you enjoy it. #meridamexico #livinginmexico #learningspanish
