How earth moves in the solar system relative to the universe

When the universe expands, the sun has to move in a straight line in order to maintain its position constant relative to the rest of the universe. This makes earth also to be in straight line in addition to its circular motion around the sun. Circular+linear-spiral

Uganda At The Equator - Water Experiment | Coriolis Effect

Uganda At The Equator - Water Experiment | Coriolis Effect ► 13 countries in the world are on the Equator. In any of them, you'll find this demonstration: A water experiment showing the Coriolis Effect (water flowing in different directions in different hemispheres. I visited Uganda where I had the privilege to see this demonstration. You'll find this experiment particularly interesting if you like physics, geography, and random curious facts.

[Why series] Earth Science Episode 6 - Rotation and Revolution

[Why series] Earth Science Episode 6 - Rotation and Revolution

The vast Earth that we live on appears to be stationary, but in fact, it is constantly moving. Every day, the Earth spins around once on its axis, moving from west to east. This movement of the Earth is called “rotation.” The rotation of the Earth is what creates day and night and allows us to see stars rise and fall.

In this topic, it will be ‘The Rotation of the Earth and the Revolutions of the Celestial Bodies.’ Stay tuned for the lecture in the ‘Why’ series!

earth rotation

An interesting scene in interval shooting mode with a clear demonstration of how the planet Earth rotates around its axis: the heavens and the Milky Way seem to stand still, while the body of the Earth moves in a circle. A fascinating spectacle

R U moving in the Space? How fast? 390 kilometers per second?

Questions about how fast the earth or anything, is moving are incomplete unless you also ask, Compared to what?
With respect to the planet's center,
The earth rotates once nearly in every 24 hours, and its circumference is roughly 40,075 kilometers.
Thus, the surface of the earth at the equator moves at a speed of 460 meters per second or roughly 1,000 miles per hour.
The earth is moving about our sun, in nearly circular orbit at a speed of nearly 30 kilometers per second, or 67,000 miles per hour.
In addition, our solar system, whirls around the center of our galaxy, at some 220 kilometers per second, or 490,000 miles per hour.
The galaxy also rushing at a speed of nearly 1,000 kilometers per second, towards a structure called the Great Attractor.
Each of the motions described above were given relative to some structure.
The Cosmic Background Explorer satellite (COBE) discovered that
The earth is moving with respect to the cosmic microwave background radiation (CBR),
at the dizzying speed of 390 kilometers per second, towards Leo constellation.
It is fortunate that we won't hit anything out there during any of our lifetimes!
The reason you not feeling right now is because speed is relative and we are all in supersonic journey to gather.

Earth Rotates Light Changes 2014 Dec 5

Timelapse of Saint John, New Brunswick on Dec 5, 2014. Showing the sun shining on the city as it rises and again as it sets with the Full Moon rising over the city.

My intention was to also capture the moon setting in the morning, But I was about 20 minutes late setting up my camera. By the time I climbed over rocks in the dark to get into position and turn on the camera only a sliver of the moon remained.

8 Places on Earth Where the Sun Never Sets | Midnight Sun Countries

There are several places on Earth where the sun never sets, also known as the Land of the Midnight Sun. These are located in the polar regions, where the sun remains above the horizon for at least 24 hours during the summer solstice. Here are eight countries where you can experience the phenomenon of the Midnight Sun:

1. Norway: In Norway, the midnight sun can be seen in the northern parts of the country, including Svalbard, Tromsø, and the North Cape. The sun never sets between late May and late July.

2. Finland: In Finland, the midnight sun can be seen in the northern regions, including Lapland, from early June to early July.

3. Sweden: The northern parts of Sweden, including the city of Kiruna, experience the midnight sun from early June to mid-July.

4. Russia: The Arctic regions of Russia, including Murmansk, experience the midnight sun from early June to early July.

5.Canada: In Canada, the midnight sun can be seen in the northern parts of the country, including the Yukon and Northwest Territories. It can be seen from late May to mid-July.

6.Greenland: In Greenland, the midnight sun can be seen in the northern parts of the country, including the town of Qaanaaq. It can be seen from late April to late August.

7. Iceland: Iceland experiences the midnight sun from late May to mid-July, and it can be seen in the northern parts of the country, including the town of Akureyri.

8. United States: In the state of Alaska, the midnight sun can be seen in the northern regions, including Barrow and Utqiagvik, from late May to late July.

Follow a Lava River’s Mesmerizing Path of Destruction | Short Film Showcase

Located in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, Kīlauea is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Since 1983, the young volcano has added more than 500 acres of new land to Hawai’i’s “Big Island.” As Kīlauea continues to erupt, wide swaths of the surrounding rain forests are destroyed by oozing molten rock. These black rivers are constantly flowing—making way for new life and regenerating the forest life cycle.

[Why series] Earth Science Episode 7 - Revolution and Annual Motion

Four seasons—spring, summer, fall, and winter. The Sun’s rising point and setting point and the length of the day and night changes depending on the season. When the Sun sets and night arrives, we are able to observe numerous stars. The changing seasons also change the stars we are able to observe. Let’s learn more about what brings about these changes.

This time, we will take a look at the Earth’s revolution around the Sun and the Sun’s annual motion. Stay tuned for the lecture in the ‘Why’ series!

We come from the future.

This is Our Planet | Earth, Like you Have Never Seen Before!

This is Our Planet

Earth, our home, is the third planet from the sun. It is the only planet known to have an atmosphere containing free oxygen, oceans of liquid water on its surface, and, of course, life.
The Earth was formed about 4.7 billion years ago. The Earth’s shape is very close to that of a sphere, not perfectly spherical. The Earth’s equatorial diameter is about 12,756 km, which is slightly larger than the polar diameter; about 12,714 km Surface Area of the Earth is 510,065,600 km2 of which 148,939,100 km2 (29.2 %) is land and 361,126,400 km2 (70.8 %) is water.

The Earth rotates on its axis, an imaginary straight line through its centre. The two points where the axis of rotation intersects the Earth’s surface are called as the poles, one of them is called the North Pole and the other is known as the South Pole. One rotation with respect to Sun is completed in 24 hours, called a solar day.

The Earth rotates in counter-clock direction or from left to right-or eastward direction. Rotation serves three reasons. First, the axis of rotation serves as a reference in setting up the geographic grid of latitude and longitude. Second, it provided a good measure of the passage of time, 24 hours or 1440 minutes or 86,400 seconds a day. Third, it greatly influenced the physical and life processes on Earth.
