WHY HE CHOSE ISLAM (USA to EGYPT)

► SUBSCRIBE for daily travel videos:

This is the story of a 60-year-old man named Yousaf, who originally comes from L.A., and now lives in Dahab, Egypt. He has a fascinating life story of traveling and living abroad since he was 7, and how he converted to Islam 15 years ago. Yousaf, who is a devout practicing Muslim, spends his days selling rice pudding on the streets of Dahab and is somewhat of a local celebrity in town. I will never forget my time spent with Yousaf -- he is full of knowledge and it's enlightening to be in his presence.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever converted to a different religion? I'd love to hear your stories shared below (if you're open to speaking about it!).

This is the WORLD'S CHEAPEST COUNTRY

After visiting 191 countries over the last 9 years, I can confidently say that AFGHANISTAN is the cheapest of them all! I have spent 3 weeks traveling around this beautiful Central Asian nation, and while there are so many things to admire about its culture and history -- the affordable prices make it THAT much more enjoyable.

In this video, I take you around the Western city called Herat (with my buddy Thomas from Yes Theory) to purchase several random items so you guys can see how cheap it is!

In case you're wondering, the next cheapest countries (in my opinion) are Bangladesh, Pakistan, Vietnam, Uzbekistan and Iran -- what do you think are the cheapest countries? Comment below!

WHY IS EVERYTHING FREE IN TURKEY? (seriously!)

► SUBSCRIBE for daily travel videos:

This video is NOT staged and this is NOT a joke!!

I arrived here in Gaziantep - the culinary capital of Turkey - and as I've been going eating different foods from street vendors, NOBODY IS LETTING ME PAY FOR ANYTHING!

Turkish people are so kind and generous that when they discover that I am a tourist, they simply will not accept my money. In some cases, they aggressively hit my hand away and put my money back in my pocket. It's unbelievable.

If you guys can remember about 1.5 years ago, I made a similar video in Peshawar, Pakistan -- where nobody would accept my payment -- so this is a kind of a sequel. And now, I think you will finally start to understand that the people in this part of the world are the friendliest!

I hope this video inspires some of you to visit Turkey, it really is that amazing here.

WORLD'S FASTEST RESTAURANT (10 seconds!)

► SUBSCRIBE for daily travel videos:

This morning I woke up in Guadalajara, Mexico, thinking I'd have a nice sit-down meal for lunch...

But when my local friend Carlos spontaneously told me about a restaurant in town that has a Guinness World Record for the 'World's Fastest Service' and I immediately took my camera out of my backpack and we were on our way there.

LITERALLY we got our food in less than 10 seconds from the moment we ordered it. 10 SECONDS!! And believe it or not, the food is delicious and I'd go back here in an heartbeat!

If you ever find yourself in Mexico's second biggest city called Guadalajara, don't miss out on Karne Garibaldi!

ESCAPING NORTH KOREA (to America)

► SUBSCRIBE for daily travel videos:

Today in Chicago, I had the pleasure to meet a young North Korean girl named Evelyn. 6 years ago, when she was 15 years old, she escaped North Korea with her mother for a better life. Both without passports, they spent 1 month traveling by foot across China, Laos and Thailand - where the South Korean government officially recognized her as a refugee and she was granted permission to migrate to the United States of America.

In this eye-opening interview, Evelyn tells me her escape story and how she has managed to integrate so well into American society. She lives all by herself and just bought her first car (with her hard-earned income!).

YOUR PERFUME GROWS HERE (60% of global supply)

► SUBSCRIBE for daily travel videos:
► INSTAGRAM for more!

Did you know that over HALF of the global supply of perfume comes from jasmine flowers in a small village in Northern Egypt?

The village is called Shubra Blula, and I came here today before sunrise to learn all about the process, which is fascinating!

During the peak season (which is now), thousands of local residents spend their entire nights hand picking these beautiful white jasmine flowers directly from the plants. Then, they are sent to a nearby factory to extract the liquid which is then sold to Paris, New York, Hong Kong and all around the world to be bottled up into perfume.

Who knew that Egypt is the king of the perfume world? I surely didn't before this trip!

I Bought a Cow for $200 in Ghana

► SUBSCRIBE for daily travel videos:
► INSTAGRAM for more!

In all of my travels, I have never purchased a cow (or even thought of purchasing a cow) -- but when my buddy Wode Maya told me that it would be possible on our road trip to Northern Ghana, I was intrigued.

After we spent 3 amazing days in a small village called Funsi, I wanted to provide them with a gift -- and instead of money, I was advised that a cow would be more appreciated because it could feed almost every single person in the village.

So we asked around to find a cow farmer, and went on an adventure through the fields to negotiate with a not--so-friendly cow farmer and deliver it back to the village.

It was such a heart-warming moment and I'm so grateful for this experience. More stories to come from the amazing country of GHANA!

What Can $10 Get in CAIRO, EGYPT? (10 items!)

► SUBSCRIBE for daily travel videos:
► INSTAGRAM for more!

Welcome back to the 41st episode of my $10 Series! Today I take you around the bustling city of Cairo, Egypt to see how far I can stretch $10USD (PS: I got 10 items!).

I actually went to Cairo the first time in 2015 - way back when I was a budget backpacker and travel blogger (before I owned a video camera). I was young and naïve and to be honest, I didn't have a great time here.

But now, I'm back with fresh eyes and new perspectives, and let's just say that I'm enjoying Cairo about 10X as much as I did 5 years ago. It's also a very special time to visit because there are (literally) ZERO TOURISTS HERE, so I had the Pyramids of Giza all to myself. As long as you take precautions (wear mask, avoid physical contact, wash hands frequently), then traveling is possible right now amid this new normal.

Have you ever been to Cairo? Please comment below and tell me what are your favorite things to do in the city!

Follow @DrewBinsky on Instagram Stories for more updates from my trip. I'll be going all over Egypt!

Special thanks to my buddies Mohamed Ali and Abdra for the drone shots after mine was confiscated!

Day in the Life of a Japanese Ramen Chef

This is Tokyo life working in Japan at a Japanese Ramen Shop as a Ramen Chef. Japanese workers are often portrayed as Salarymen but in this video we focus on Japanese food services industry and what it is like to work in a Japanese restaurant. This is a day in the life of a Japanese Chef, Tetsuya, 41 years old, working in Japan at a ramen store, karashibi miso ramen Kinkanbo. It's a popular spicy ramen shop in Tokyo Japan serving a devil ramen. We see Japanese working hours as well as Japanese workers in a Tokyo ramen restaurant, a peek into Japanese life. Tetsuya starts the day in his apartment and as an average Japanese worker, he commutes to work in Tokyo via train. It only takes him 20 minutes to get to work, but soon after arriving, he's busy working at the Japanese food restaurant and preparing Japanese ramen noodles for customers. His main duty is the manager of the ramen shop, but he also creates new gentei limited time menu items as a Japanese ramen chef. Life in Tokyo is amazing and part of this is because we have dedicated workers in Japan that keep the city running. To be a Japanese chef you must really have a passion for what you do. If you are ever looking for a spicy food challenge or spicy ramen challenge in Tokyo, then the Kikanbo ramen shop should be you first destination. But don't worry, if you can't eat spicy ramen, the ramen shop also prepares non-spicy version of the ramen bowl. Customers can choose their level of spiciness from low all the way to Oni level, aka Devil ramen. Enjoy this Japanese food tour of a Japanese ramen shop.

How to Shoot 35mm Film (Story 1)

Film Camera: Canon A1 with a 50mm f/1.4 Canon lens -- FujiColor Superia 200
Video Camera: Canon 5D3 with a 35mm Summicron F2 (1970) Leica lens

This is our first STORY in our new Snippet/Story style and we are so very excited to share it with you.

This week we tried to weave the beautiful experience of film photography with a bit of a how-to-video with the hopes of inspiring you to get out and capture your environment.

The entire experience of shooting film from choosing your film stock, to manually loading the film, to the sexy sound of winding the film after each photo, well it all just begs you to slow down, to focus on the moment at hand, and take it all in and then... the most important part... to stay present. No checking how the photo turned out, no re-taking the selfie, not even the need to see how many likes it got. Nope, a film camera gives you the luxury of hoping that you captured the moment and letting that be enough.

And while I can go on and on about the lessons that film has already taught me - and this was just my first roll ! - the main thing that making this story taught me is how lucky I am to have a partner as patient and thoughtful as Lou! His work ethic is unlike anyone I have ever met and the passion he pours into creating these beautiful moments each week never ceases to amaze me.

I'm grateful for this week's video for reminding me of time spent: hanging at second hand camera stores, capturing special moments with dear friends, and enjoying perfect moments of summer when you feel surrounded by love.

Day in the Life of a Japanese Manga Creator

Mangaka day in the life in Japan also known as a Manga artist and manga creator. This documentary style video show the life of Mangaka from morning until the evening at the mangaka workplace, home and general mangaka working schedule. Working in Japan and Tokyo life is unique in itself, but even more unique for a Manga artist creating manga in Tokyo Japan. Mangaka illustrate manga commonly known as comic book. Maybe in Western societies, Mangaka are referred to as cartoonist or comic book illustrators. Manga creators in Japan with rensai status work with publishers to produce weekly manga. This Manga artist day in the life follows Reiji Miyajima 宮島礼吏 , who lives in Tokyo Japan and creates the manga Kanajo okarishimasu 彼女お借りします which translates to Rent a Girlfriend. Mangaka working in Japan often work in their home and set aside office space for them and their assistants. In fact, we also get a look into Mangaka Assistant life as well as how manga is created. Many Manga Creators work on serial comic books with weekly deadlines, meaning that each day of the work week in Japan is different as the manga creation process has to produce 1 new manga per week. Manga artist must not only know how to draw and create manga, but they also must know how to manage manga assistants. We even touch on Mangaka salary for first time manga creators. An inside look on how manga and comic books are made in Japan.

While wandering the streets of Kabul, Afghanistan the other day, I came across an old man named Haji, who is the last remaining person in the country (and likely the world) who still uses this ancient box camera to take portraits! This vintage device is over 100 years old and it was just FASCINATING to get my portrait taken -- it was like straight out of a movie!

Here is the full story of Haji and his mind-blowing box camera, which he uses not only as a hobby but as a profession. I think this photo is the best souvenir in my life!

100 Years Old Traditional Japanese House | BMPCC4K + Ronin-S | My Birthplace In Japan

I went back to my hometown in Japan in this summer, 2019. This house is my birthplace and currently my grandmother is living there by herself. Some rooms have been renovated but this is over 100 years old traditional Japanese house.
It's two-stories house and my grandma sleeps on the first floor. She told me sometimes she hears footsteps from the second floor. She's a brave, she holds a broom and goes up to make sure there's no thief. But I think that sounds like paranormal phenomena.

So I shot on Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K with Ronin-S. As you may have noticed footages look like with Black Pro-Mist filter but it's not. It was just foggy and dirty cheap ND filter haha.. Even like this situation this camera shows good result.

By the way, I wonder why I feel Japanese tone from a footage when it's shot in Japan even if it's used the same camera. I think scenery is the biggest reason but I also think it may be related to humidity or something. I'm not sure. Let's compare it with other uploaded videos from Canada which I used same camera setup. I feel moist from this video.
