Hilltribe Market Vietnam Bargain Shopping ????????

Shopping in Hilltribe Market Vietnam ????????

■ HAI PHONG, VIETNAM: My main motivation to explore Vietnam's northern most regions, other than mountains with tiered rice fields, was to go shopping in a Hill Tribe market. Now these colorful hill tribe markets are harder to find than you'd think. Many are only once per week, often on Saturday, and are staged in far flung mountainous locations.

After a little research I did discover one that was open everyday and only a 90 minute drive from Lao Cai. Seeing as it only required a 60 minute detour from the direction I would otherwise have driven in, I decided to go for it.

$2 Calvin Klein: Fake Market Vietnam ????????

■ SAIGON, VIETNAM: I flew to Vietnam with nothing more than the clothes I was wearing and a change of t-shirt and underwear. Top of my agenda was thus to scour through Saigon's famous 'fake' clothes market (Ben Thanh) for a 2nd, 3rd and 4th outfit. From Nike shoes, Tommy Hilfiger t-shirts and Calvin Klein underwear this market has it all.

So what do the products cost? What is the starting price? And what can for example a t-shirt be haggled down to? This and much more in episode one of my mega Vietnam fake market hunt.

Vietnam Fake Night Market Spree! ????????

Ho Chi Minh City / Saigon, Vietnam: most you guys, reading 'Vietnam Night Fake Market Spree Went Wrong', would think: Michele, did you get scammed also this time? And the answer is No, at least I do not think so. At Ben Thanh Market, a market that during the day is inside a building and during the nights it's situated on the streets around it, my main problem was the rain! Both I and the market workers got surprised by it, but they showed great ability in immediately covering all the stuff they were selling and putting them inside these plastic tents. So the rain is why this market spree went wrong, but it's also the reason why this vlog got more interesting, therefore I'm grateful to this Vietnamese weather.

By the way, I found out that Collin Abroadcast did a video in this same market and his vlog was titled Vietnam Knockoff Market Spree!, but Collin did the Market Spree during the inside/day market, I did it in the outside/night market.

One last thing: the thumbnail remembers me very much of when I was young and helping dad in the family shop. He is there, working for his mom and selling me Pikachu. I was in Rome, making packages for customers while all my classmates were simply enjoying the Christmas vacation.

Nepal Bhrikuti Bazaar: $18 Northface Jacket ????????

■ NEPAL, KATHMANDU: This Sunday evening I was invited to wine and dine with my favorite Nepali citizen. Since I'm not one to show up without presents, I decided to go shopping at Kathmandu's Bhrikuti Bazaar first. This is perhaps the cheapest market in Nepal's capital so I decided to truly investigate how low the vendors would go for a Northface Winter jacket here.

To my amazement it was the vendors that operated with fixed prices that had the best bargains of all....

Great Thai hill tribe market (busy morning)

'REAL LIFE' living as an expat in North Thailand can be hard work! Birthdays hurt when you're over 40, but I had a lovely day with my daughter Annie. Checked out a great hill tribe market and cooked yellow curry with an Indian twist. Will tourism in Phuket be happening in October 2020 ? News update and phrase of the day as always. Vietnam's Mountain Paradise ????????

■ VIETNAM: After struggling to get out of a mountain city with the most confusing road system I've ever encountered (I drove through the city 3 times) I finally emerged into a valley. Upon closer inspection looked like a beautiful river was running through it. This called for a Harald Investigates!

So down into the valley I went until I reached a shoddy looking bridge....

I had a $1000 Cup of Tea ????????

■ SRI LANKA, ELLA: Sri Lanka is a land of opportunities. Yet, despite actually doing my utmost to meet local entrepreneurs and established business owners I found it incredibly difficult do just that. But whilst on a long drive though the mountains and tea plantations of Ella I finally stumbled upon one by pure accident.

What he told me was a mighty impressive story of how he'd taken the leap to open his own little tea shop at the age of 26. Is this man Sri Lanka's next Ceylon tea millionaire? This called for a full-scale Harald investigates!

Vietnam $2 Street Shave Hanoi ????????

■ HANOI, VIETNAM: As I was making a street tea video in the centre of Hanoi I stumbled upon an old temptation of mine which made me reminisce about India: a street barber. Not just that, this barber was female! Something I've never seen this before as this is a heavily male dominated profession.

The only problem was I don't want to cut my hair and I also didn't even have a 2 day beard to shave! The only thing the barber could go to work on would be my treasured precious goatee!!!!

So what was a straight white male to do? ????

Dilemmas dilemmas.....

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam-Traditional Markets Season 1 Episode 1-Ba Chieu Market is the first of a multi-episode series focusing on local/traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City,(Saigon). I've also been fascinated with traditional markets whether they're in East Asia, Southeast Asia, or South Asia. My trips aren't complete without multi-visits to the traditional markets of wherever I'm staying. Fortunately because locals still support these markets, even with the invasion of the hypermarket to Asia, we are blessed to be able to experience these temples of food and the simple great joys of life.
In this series I'll be covering off some basic tips, suggestions, and of course the most interesting markets Ho Chi MInh City has to offer. All 24 districts have at least one major market but many have several as well as smaller lane markets or street markets as well. I'll be featuring markets that are usually within about a 15-30 minute taxi ride from District 1, where most visitors stay when they're in Saigon. I can't stress how much visiting these markets is so important in discovering and learning more about everyday life in Vietnam. Unlike tourist markets like Ben Thanh Market you'll find that people aren't as aggressive at getting your business as they really have no souvenirs to sell and almost all of their customers are local. So in some ways these market are a little more relaxed to wander around, even with the traffic! I just love these places and I hope when you're visiting Ho Chi Minh City you'll get the chance to see one or more of these markets during your stay, so much more memorable and authentic than any market that's primarily focused on tourists.

Early morning we reached the Lao Chi station and we got onto a bus to visit the faraway market of Can Cau by the Hill Tribes.

This market is at the very end of North Vietnam and just 9 kms away from the Chinese border. We got to experience some very unique tribal food, lifestyle and people....though the journey was very tiring but we go to experience something different - and that's exactly what travel is all about.

This place is a must visit if you are visiting Sapa.

Pho Bang Market in Ha Giang Vietnam

Located at 130km from Ha Giang City, Pho Bang Town is the off-the-beaten-track destination: beautiful, quiet, and historical. Houses in Pho Bang town are kept in the traditional architecture, with the wooden pillars, the double tile roofs, the moss-covered and mortar wall, etc.

Together with the serene corners, Pho Bang Town of Ha Giang has areas for the hill-tribe market gathering which is dynamic, exciting, and crowded. The market gathers once a week, based on the “back schedule” (if the market is held on this Saturday, then the next gathering will be on Friday).

The Pho Bang hill-tribe market is the day when the whole town is most exciting, with lots of merchants and shoppers who are wearing the brightly colored costumes. Also, in some corners are the foreign guests who love nature and ethnic culture in the north of Vietnam.

The market is filled with many kinds of goods such as the agricultural products, handicrafts, fabrics, local food, Ha Giang corn wine, etc. While Pho Bang Town is peaceful and enthralling with ancient houses, intact Nature, and traditional ethnic lifestyle, the hill-tribe market in this area provides the memorable adventure to all visitors.

Vietnam Travel GoPro: Bắc Hà Market also known as the love market in Sapa, Vietnam. Check out just how busy it is and the colourful costumes of the hill tribespeople as they come to the Weekly Sunday Market in Bắc Hà to trade goods and services and meet each other and have a generally good time, sometimes making merry with the local food specialities (I saw several large jaw bones being gnawed) and the corn and rice wine sold by the gallon.

What To Do in Sapa - Daily Market, Shopping Souvenir, Embroidery Handicrafts

What To Do in Sapa - Daily Market, Shopping Souvenir, Embroidery Handicrafts
When visiting Sapa, there are several activities you can enjoy, including exploring the daily market, shopping for souvenirs, and admiring the exquisite embroidery handicrafts. Here's a breakdown of what you can do in each of these areas:

Daily Market: Sapa's daily market is a vibrant hub where locals from the surrounding hill tribes gather to sell their produce, clothing, crafts, and other items. It's a great place to immerse yourself in the local culture and witness the diversity of ethnic groups. You can feast your eyes on colorful traditional costumes, fresh fruits, vegetables, and local delicacies. Don't miss the chance to try some street food and interact with friendly vendors.

Shopping for Souvenirs: Sapa is known for its unique handicrafts, making it an ideal place to find authentic souvenirs. You'll encounter a variety of items such as handwoven textiles, silver jewelry, ethnic garments, wooden carvings, bamboo products, and more. The souvenir shops in Sapa offer an opportunity to support local artisans while taking home meaningful mementos. Make sure to bargain for a fair price and ask about the story behind the crafts.

Embroidery Handicrafts: Sapa is particularly famous for its intricate embroidery work. The Hmong people, one of the local ethnic groups, have a deep-rooted tradition of creating stunning embroidery pieces. These handcrafted textiles often depict nature scenes, mythical creatures, or cultural symbols. You can visit embroidery workshops or co-operatives to witness the skillful process involved in producing these remarkable artworks. Consider purchasing embroidered bags, scarves, or wall hangings as beautiful keepsakes or gifts.

Remember to respect the local customs and traditions while engaging with the community. Enjoy exploring the bustling markets, finding unique treasures, and appreciating the delicate artistry of Sapa's embroidery handicrafts!
