Sunset Cruising Views from the back of the Truck! Hikutavake to Alofi!

Driving along one evening on part of Niue's main road on the west coast during our tent jobs with Rockon tents.
You can see how quiet it is with hardly any traffic or people out and about on the road which is about a quarter of the Island. This is the norms for here.
We were travelling from Hikutavake village from picking up a 6mx6m sized tent/marquee/canopy and to put up the same sized one at Tamakautoga village.
Our phone battery ran out at Alofi and didn't make filming it all the way to our intended destination.

First song used on the video is Heke mai ka e o by a local band, Island Pride.
Second and third song, Fa tomui and Ko koe ni by Glen Jackson.
Last song by Makafolifoli Ono hifo ke he patu lagi. They are all Niuean local artists.

Niue Village's Takai | Tuapa, Mutalau, Tamakautoga & Hakupu. | Round the Island Celebrations.

The main takai day on Niue mainly falls on the second Saturday of January every year.
This is when villages or groups would do up their rides and travel around the whole Island celebrating.

The whole week leading up to this Saturday is actually the takai week where villages and groups can go on their takai. Some groups also cycle or walk around the Island during this time. (About 60km total distance.)

The hype and vibe on this day, collectively, is the biggest in relation to any other celebration that we have here. Bigger than our self governing celebrations in October also, in my opinion.

Alofi Ekalesia Celebrations - Kai Galue / A Real Major Feast - Niue Style!

This is a celebration event that was put on by Alofi Ekalesia which is a church denomination on the capital village of Niue.
The formal part was done at the church building and the feast is here in front of the Pastors residence at the village green.

As you can see, there were tons of awesome food, way more than necessary for all who were invited.
It is just part of the culture.
Everyone in the community and from outside contributes in one way or another, from the food preparation to decorations, setting up and packing up.

Family Time! Swimming with the Family at The Namukulu Ramp!

Spending some quality time today with the Family with an outing for a swim at the Namukulu village ramp!
Like I mentioned in another video how it is on Niue where it is not unusual to be at a swimming spot where you can have it all to yourselves!
We got to this spot and there were three people there but they left not too long after, so we got the spot all to our merry selves.
The blessings of being in a small isolated Island!
It was an afternoon well spent as a family!????❤

Whole video footage was taken with a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra phone with a waterproof case.

Niue Island April 2012

Fakalofa Lahi Atu! Shot on beautiful Niue Island for the big Talagi, Peautagi, Hafonua Family Reunion April 2012. One of the world's best kept secrets.

Another Feasting Celebration for Avatele Ekalesia Church Renovations & Plaque Installment!

The Avatele Church building was first opened and dedicated in 1973 and renamed Sinai 2.
They renovated it and also refurbished the pews inside. Atoa Talagi and his team led this very important task. They did an awesome job!

The whole village got together to celebrate and invited many guests from around the Island to join them.
Plenty of awesome food was laid out for everyone to enjoy and take home.
Performances were held where the singing and dancing are passed on from the old to the newer generations so our culture will continue to live on.
Job well done Avatele!????????????

Main song used in this video is a cover by Gabi Tuhipa and Glen JXN Jackson of Manu Folau's original song Ko e Mamali.
It was written and composed around 1993 by Dean Douglas and Patrick Lino as a 22nd birthday gift for Dean's girlfriend at the time who is now his wife, Fiona Douglas.
Manu Folau is a live band of talented musicians from Avatele village.

Eating Fua Vi (June plums) at the Sea, Utuko Reef!

Eating this vi fruit is something most locals look forward to every vi season which is once or sometimes twice a year.
Whe we go swimming, we grab them for a snack out there while swimming as you can see on this clip.
This fruit is awesome too when we make it into a drink. It has a very present and pleasant taste and flavour/aroma.
We also like eating it with salt and curry powder mixed together. Another awesome tropical fruit for snacking on!

Namukulu Cottages and Spa - Niue

MyTravels | Niue

I was lucky enough to Volunteer on this beautiful island for 4 weeks, living a self sufficient lifestyle within a village in the north of the Island called Mutalau a huge thank you to everyone who made my trip including my house mate, the Mutalau Blues Touch team and coaches, and the biggest thank you to Saluma and Humu Cafe for allowing me to experience all of this.

I learnt how to prepare and cook Traditional Niuean dishes, alot about island life, Niue's history and culture. Not to mention all the incredible memories made.

Anyway you probably havent heard of this small island nation but it is the unspoilt gem of the south pacific!!!
