CHEFCHAOUEN, MOROCCO (2023) | BEST Things To Do In & Around The Blue City Of Chefchaouen
Chefchaouen is a small town set amidst the Rif Mountains in the northwest of Morocco. It’s also known as the Blue City because of its stunning blue buildings in the old town. And while it is still a relative mystery as to why the houses are painted blue, this charming town has a rich and interesting history waiting to be heard. We recommend staying a day or two enjoying all the best things to do in Chefchaouen, and three days or more if you want to venture to the surrounding Rif Mountains.

6. Marvel at the blue houses
The number one reason to visit Chefchaouen is for its beautiful streets, filled with houses painted in different shades of blue. In fact, Chefchaouen has become a major tourist attraction in the last decade because of blue pictures circulating on social media.
5. Guided tour of the Old Town
While Chefchaouen may seem like a recent phenomenon on social media, the city has an intriguing history that dates back to the 15th Century. The best way to learn about it is by joining a guided tour of the Old Town. The tours take you to the most important sights, such as the main square, the Grand Mosque, and the outside of the Kasbah.

4. Visit the Kasbah Museum
In the bustling main square sits the red-walled Kasbah, a 15th-century fortress and dungeon. Inside the walls you can find Andalusian Gardens as well as a museum that features a collection of artifacts from the Chefchaouen region. It’s a peaceful escape from the city and another great opportunity to learn a bit more about the history of this area.
3. Stroll around Ras El Ma
The most peaceful and fascinating area of Chefchaouen is Ras El Ma. Here, the fresh mountain water trickles into the town. It’s the main water resource for the population and used to be a popular hangout spot for locals. Women traditionally gathered along the banks of the river to socialize as they washed clothes and blankets.
2. Go hiking in the Rif Mountains
As a mountain town, Chefchaouen is surrounded by beautiful nature. The Rif Mountains might be lesser known than the Atlas Mountains, but are equally beautiful. Lush forests and impressive peaks rise above the Mediterranean and provide great hiking routes. Right outside Chefchaouen you can find Talassemtane National Park, with different trails such as the Akchour Waterfalls and God’s Bridge.
1. Watch the sunset from the Spanish Mosque
Finally, we recommend ending your visit in Chefchaouen with a magical sunset over the city and mountains. There are many viewpoints around the city, but the Spanish Mosque might be the most popular and beautiful one. It’s an easy 20 to 30 minute hike to the top, and there is a clear path that leaves from Ras El Ma to the hilltop.

We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.
We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.
We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Fas Morocco gezisinin üçüncü bölümü olan Tanca, Tangier, Tanger ve şafşavan yani Chefchaouen de gezilecek yerleri görüp deneyimledik.
Fransızların, Ingilizlerin ve Türk lerin ayrı adlandırdıkları paylaşılamayan topraklar. sabah saatlerin Grand Socco ve old Medina'sını gezdik. kahvaltımızı sokak aralarında satılan pankek ve gözleme tarızında pişirdikleri ürünleri satın alarak yaptık. Eski kafelerinde oturduk geleneksel Fas Morocco espressosundan içtik. Tabiki nane çayı mint tea içmeden kalkmadık. Old Medina'sından Grand socco nun ara sokaklarında pazar yerlerinden alış veriş yapılacak alanları dolaştık. Tangeri yani Tanca feribot iskelesini yukarıdan görünen manzarasını seyrederek İspanya'nın esintilerini izledik. İspanya'nın hemen dibinde bulunan bu mavi beyaz ve fasın en eski ikibin beş yüzlük bu sokakları Magrip ve Avrupa yaşantısı bir arada. sonrasında Hercules caves denilen Atlantik Okyanusu nun hemen dibinde ola mağarayı ziyaret ettik. Bu alan görülmesi ve gezilecek yerler arasında bulunun turistlik bir yer. Fotoğraf ve video çekimi yaptıktan sonra Cebeli Tarık Boğazın da bulunan Sidi Minar fenerine geçip İspanya sahillerine baktık. Bu alanda bulunan kafelerinde mola vererek olmazsa olmaz nane çayı mint tea içtik. Tancanın sahiline çok yakın lerio otelde bir gece konaklayarak sabah Plagade Malabada Beach de denize girdik. Sahil güvenlikle konuşup sabah sporu yaptıktan sonra yolumuza koyulduk. Kuranı Kerim'de de adı geçen tatlı su ile tuzlu suyun karışmadığı Cap Spartel'e geldik. Bu alan Atlantik Okyanusu ile Akdeniz sularının bir birine karışmadığı mucizevi bir yer. Turistlerin hiç boş bırakmadığı gezi programlarının içinde bulunduğu sahil kasabası. Gezilecek yerler arasında muhakkak olması gerekiyor.
Sonrasında dünyanın ve bizim merak ettiği Chefchaouan yani şafşavan'a doğru üç saatlik araba yoluculuğu yaptık. Tüm şehri maviye boyadıkları bu yer sizi çok şaşırtacak. Daracık sokakları ve tüm duvarların maviye boyanmış olması sizi hayal dünyasında bir hikaye kahramanı gibi hissettirecek. Fas Morocco nun şehirlerinden olan Chefchaoun yani şafşavan gezisine en aza iki yada 3 saat vermeniz gerekir. gezilecek yerler arasında bulunan bu eşsiz nadide şehir turistlerin uğrak yeridir. Hediyelik eşyaların kaffelerin ve otellerin bulunduğu bu dingin ve huzur yerinde Rif dağlarının serinliğini hissediyorsunuz. sokaklarında dolaşırken halkın kafa yapıcı uyuşturucu madde kullanımı sizi şaşırtacak.

Morocco: Part 1 - Tangier, Chefchaouen & Fez (Days 1 to 4)
Here is my first attempt at video blogging. Mostly to try and capture some more of the culture, the way of life and also show more in depth some of our travel experiences. Tangier as you can see not much to see. Loved Chefchaouen and would recommend this small blue city for all to take in the sights for a day or two. Good hiking in this area but was outrageously hot when we were there. Fez is the cultural capital of Morocco with 300,000 people living in 14 square kilometres in the Medina or old tow, I guess that's why there are 9000 streets in this small area. HOW TO GET THERE: Train from Rabat to Souk Al Arbaa (2hrs), then take a bus (2hrs 40m) 5 dirhams for luggage storage in bus
Chefchaouen, one of the prettiest towns in Morocco, a blue washed mountain village, nicknamed the ‘’Blue Pearl of Morocco’’ is indeed a rare stunning gem. It was 6yrs ago when I first stumbled upon a picture of this dreamlike place & it certainly was a dream come true when we finally arrived here.
Chefchaouen’s medina is one of the loveliest in Morocco. Wander aimlessly and take in the beauty of this blue city. Shopping is definitely recommended here as you rarely get hassled in shops or restaurants compared to other parts of Morocco.
This is a cat city for sure. You’ll find cats in alleys, on stairs, in the souks, roaming through restaurants and on terraces.
The Kasbah is a heavily restored walled fortress that now contains a lovely garden & a small museum.
From the Spanish mosque hilltop, you will have a grand view of the entire town sprawling over the green hills below. Sunset viewing highly recommended.
Shouldn’t miss the Cascades d’ Akchour, a pair of waterfalls, 1 small & 1 large, nestled in the Rif mountains about 45mins drive away.
We stayed 3 nights but people do day trips to Chefchaouen too.
