How AMERICAN are the MARSHALL ISLANDS?

IAKWE (HELLO) FROM THE MARSHALL ISLANDS ????????Life is wonderful out here in country #157!

It was already expected that the Marshall Islands would be absolutely stunning (and it certainly is)... but it was unexpected how AMERICAN it feels here!

- They use U.S. dollars.
- They speak (American) English.
- They play basketball.
- They drink Bud Light.
- They use miles and Fahrenheit and feet.

I haven't been home in 6+ months and it is so amazing (and refreshing) to experience this home feeling in the middle of the Pacific Ocean - the Marshall Islands!

WHY are the Marshall islands so Americanized? Find out in today's video!

Just curious -- how many of my American friends had no idea about this? We all know of Hawaii and Guam, but did you honestly know about the Marshall Islands? Comment your thoughts below!

Alone at Sea from Hawaii to the Marshall Islands - Bird on board - Part 5 - Ep #47

I'm sailing solo from Hawaii to the Marshall Islands in a 1968 Alberg 30. A bird visits and I finally go for a swim. Singlehanded sailing a small boat on the Pacific Ocean is awesome.

Pacific Ocean Crossing - The scariest part of a Sail from Hawaii to the Marshall Islands - Ep #43

It's not what you'd expect. This is the first time I'd sailed away from a dock. The next land I would touch on this soon to be solo sail across the Pacific Ocean was 2100 nautical miles away on Majuro Atoll in the Marshall Islands. Subscribe to see how the rest of this singlehanded sail goes.

United Airlines Island Hopper Trip Report | Hawaii to the Marshall Islands

I decided to re-do one of the most unique flights I ever took, United Airlines 154, The Island Hopper. However, I will focus this video on just one of the five segments, from Honolulu to Majuro. Most flights you see are in business. I didn't have the money or miles so I flew in economy and met some awesome Marshallese, Micronesians and a United mechanic. Check out the landing at the end. you'll appreciate the people who live and work here.

The back story: It's a flight I still think about often. I still look at the pictures and videos even though I took this flight in January, 2017. I've never felt so isolated and small as I did crossing the Pacific with the 150 or so other passengers. I met people from places I never imagined I would meet. After 5 hours of nothing but blue sky and ocean and clouds, we landed safely on Majuro. If you ever fly it, you will meet people you've never met before. You'll see beautiful and remote islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. You'll see how people on the islands live, work and communicate with the outside world. This flight is unique in many ways and I hope you have a chance to fly this route.

To watch the entire journey, you can watch my original video:

Marshall Islands (Things to do - Places to Visit) - MARSHALL ISLANDS Top Tourist Places
Country in Oceania

The Marshall Islands are a sprawling chain of volcanic islands and coral atolls in the central Pacific Ocean, between Hawaii and the Philippines.

In the northwest, Bikini Atoll’s largely undisturbed waters, used as a ship graveyard after World War II, are now a popular wreck dive site. Near Majuro Atoll, which holds the islands' capital and largest settlement, the coral reef at Kalalin Pass teems with marine life.

Bikini Atoll, The Marshall Islands

Lost somewhere in the ocean, this island looks like a paradise, doesn’t it? But Bikini Atoll was actually home to numerous nuclear testing programs that turned the picturesque island of Bikini into a radioactive wasteland. The inhabitants were forced to abandon their homes, and even today this remains hazardous for living organisms: the abnormally high level of radiation recorded here can cause cancer.

Between 1946 and 1958, 23 nuclear devices were detonated by the United States at seven test sites located on the reef, inside the atoll, in the air, or underwater.

In 1996, the Bikini Council authorized diving operations as a means to generate income for Bikini islanders currently and upon their eventual return. The tours, limited to fewer than a dozen experienced divers a week, cost more than US$5000 and include detailed histories of the nuclear tests.

Island Hopper to POHNPEI, MICRONESIA from the Marshall Islands! | Pacific Island Travel Vlog

We are going to the beautiful Island of POHNPEI! Other islands of FSM include Yap, Chuuk, and Kosrae (which the island hopper lands on almost all of them!).

Warning - if you get motion sick or don't like itty bitty airplane run ways - the United Island Hopper from Hawaii to Guam might not be for you. There were some ROUGH landings haha

But we survived!

And we had the most amazing time in Pohnpei! Most of our days consisted of getting work done in the room, a meal a day at the attached restaurant, and then walking into town with spray because a few of the dogs were not very happy.

About Us

We met in college and started a five year journey to graduate, get jobs, pay off student loans and save money to travel. After getting married we bought a one way ticket to Greece in July of 2021 and have been traveling around the Globe since. Living abroad definitely brings some unique experiences.

These laidback Youtube videos will be our way of keeping in touch with family and friends as we explore different countries, try new and strange foods (and of course pizza), and see how many times we can avoid airplane fares. These homevideos will be the only souvenir we end up with at the end (only because nothing else will fit in our bags).

Thanks for watching!
