Hammock Ridgelines

When you talk about a ridgeline, you may be referencing three different parts of your hammock setup. Our founder, Dutch, explains the difference between these three ridgelines.

The first ridgeline is the apex of your tarp. A tarp ridgeline helps keep your tarp tightly secured so it can protect your hammock underneath.

The second meaning of ridgeline refers to the equipment that suspends your tarp above your hammock. You can create a split or continuous ridgeline with this gear. At DutchWare, we provide the accessories you need for both types of ridgelines so you can set up your tarp without complex knots.

The third instance in which you would use the word ridgeline is when referring to the hammock ridgeline. DutchWare offers two different types of structural hammock ridgelines: adjustable and fixed. With either of these two kinds of ridgelines, you can adjust the amount of sag in your hammock to your liking. Make sure you're referring to the right item when searching for ridgelines for your camping gear.

We know you depend on your outdoor gear to protect you from the elements. When you shop with DutchWare, you can be confident you're getting the best hammocks and accessories at the best prices.

Setting Up a Ridgeline and Guylines on a Hammock Tarp

This is a really long video going over every step of making a split ridgeline and guylines for your hammock tarp. My new tarp is a 12 foot DCF tarp from Dutchware. I've used this same guyline system on my older hammock tarps and it has worked out really well.

For this setup you'll need 100 feet of Zing-It or Lash-it. You can get that several places online but its easy from Dutchware. The titanium hardware is also from Dutchware. I use Dutch's Fleas. They are super lightweight and make it really easy to hang your tarp up quick.

Camping Tip: How To Tie A Bowline Knot

The bowline knot is a great all purpose knot that has many uses at the campsite.
It’s a very dependable knot as long as the rope is under a load. The knot is popular because when the rope is slack it’s easy to untie (no one likes using their teeth). It can be used for tying a pet to a tree, hanging a hammock, hanging food or a solar shower from a tree, and securing grommets on a tarp.

Where to put your stuff in a hammock? Learn how the Hammock Holdall ridgeline organizer can help.

Learn More about the Hammock Holdall Ridgeline Organizer:

The Hammock Holdall is a nine pocket organizer that hangs above your hammock. Whether you’re a hardcore hammock camper or a casual hammock user, you'll appreciate the convenience of organizing and storing your gear within arm’s reach.

Empty Pockets = Happy Hammocking

Most people like to empty their pockets before entering a hammock. It’s more comfortable and prevents things from falling out of your pockets and into the hammock.

The Hammock Holdall gives you plenty of space for everything in your pockets, with plenty of room for everything else you want to keep handy. After you try out the Hammock Holdall, you’ll wonder how you got along without it.

Nine Pockets!

With four pockets of various sizes on each side and one extra large secret pocket, you’ll have enough space for everything you want to keep handy.

Secret Pocket

The secret pocket is great for water bottles, large flashlights, and more. The bottom portion of the openings for this pocket are sewn together, to prevent your gear from sliding out.

Set It & Forget It

You can lock the Hammock Holdall in place to prevent it from sliding on the ridgeline, with two included shock cord loops. Simply tie two prusik knots onto the ridgeline and clip the built in hooks to the loops.

Easily move the Hammock Holdall to any position on the ridgeline. You can leave it permanently attached to your hammock, so you won’t have to worry about forgetting it the next time you use your hammock.

Easy Set Up

The Hammock Holdall hangs on your hammock’s ridgeline and is easy to set up.
To install the Hammock Holdall, thread your ridgeline through the channel at the top and reconnect your ridgeline to your hammock suspension. You can leave it permanently attached to your hammock, if you want.

Durable, Lightweight, & Compact

We designed the Hammock Holdall to last a lifetime. It’s made from the same heavy-duty 70D nylon as our hammocks, so you know you can count on it. It only weighs 1.4 ounces (40 grams) so you won’t even notice it in your pack.

Stuff Sack Included

The Hammock Holdall includes a stuff sack that you can use to hold small items and then store the stuff sack in one of the nine pockets.
