Five Tips For New Hammockers

After a year and a half of very consistent hammocking, we both sat down and thought about some very general tips for people just starting to get their feet wet in hammocking. These are pretty broad, but we both think they pertain very well to those just entering the hammock game. Hammocking can be a lot different than tent-camping, and certainly might take a different approach when starting out.

How to Store and Organize Backpacking/Camping Gear 2019

Whether you’ve just started backpacking or you’re an avid outdoorsman you’ve probably struggled with how to store and organize all that new gear that quickly starts to fill up your home. If this is your story and you’re fed up with piles of gear and you’re not able to find what you need… This video is for you! After accumulating years worth of backpacking, camping and bushcrafting gear I’ve come up with a couple simple ways to store and organize it all in a small space. Follow me on a tour of the “Man Cave” to check out my gear collection and storage ideas. I even have room for a computer desk and equipment to make these YouTube videos. Being more organized helps with selecting your gear to fine tune each trip and it’s a lot faster to put everything away when you return home.

About 5 years ago I uploaded “How I Store and Organize My Backpacking Gear... Kdawg Indoors Episode 1”
I was immediately warned in the comments of that video that I would inevitably need more space because new gear accumulates fast. They were absolutely correct! Since then I have reorganized my gear storage 3 to 4 times. I’ve also swapped out some older gear in favor of newer, lighter and better options which has helped me to maintain all my gear in the same small space.

If you like this video please check out my YouTube channel for more backpacking, camping and bushcrafting trips, tips and tricks and gear!

Inside My Backpack- Hammock Camping #backpacking #canoeing

Hey everyone, I was out camping on the weekend but decided to film only my backpack instead of a full camp video. It was a really simple trip so I wanted to focus more on relaxing and enjoying nature.

I actually never really unloaded my pack since the backcountry canoe trip I did the week before, so the contents are mostly what I would take if I were backpacking or portaging. I’d say the weight was right around the 35-40Lb mark. I’ve listed the contents in the order of the video. If anyone wants more info on anything in my pack, just leave a comment.

DIY Hammock Boot Bucket Prototyping - like a gear sling but not

Trying to solve the problem of where to put my boots in the muddy or snowy hangs. In storms I don't have enough room under my hammock with a big underquilt, and I don't want them above me or in with me. I also want to be able to easily put them somewhere right as I get into bed and if I need them during the night, and have them handy to put on in the morning.

Sort of a glimpse to into how I go about prototyping gear builds.

Now I will take it out and see what I don't like and what I do. Then hopefully come up with a final version.

Messing with an Ultralight Hammock System | First Setup

By popular viewer demand I finally pieced together a hammock system to try out. People asked me frequently both on the trail and in the comments my thoughts on hammock camping. Quiet frankly as a ground dweller I never really gave it much thought. The setups seemed unnecessarily difficult and overly complicated and I didn't think I would be able to match or beat the weight of my current ground setup.

But alas, this is an outdoors channel, so once I returned from the Appalachian Trail I did some research and pieced together the beginnings of a little ultralight hammock setup that I believe is pretty easy to set up. In this video we will give the system a little test run!

Full disclosure - The links in this description are more than likely affiliate links. This means if you click on one of these links and make a purchase I make a commission from that sale. As much as I love money, I would highly suggest giving yourself at least 48 hours before any purchase decision and asking yourself “Do I really need this?”. I hope more times than not, you find yourself saying “I Definitely do NOT need this”. If you find yourself still in need, shop around and find the best deal for your money.

Please note that I am not recommending any of the gear seen in any of my videos. The gear I use is what I have found works best for me at the time period I am using it. I have come to these gear choices through vast levels of trial, error, and experimenting with gear out on trail.

Gear, clothing, footwear, etc. are not one style works for all. Do as much research as you can, try out things in person if able, and make the best informed purchase decision for YOU. Do not buy gear just because it worked for, was showcased by, or recommended by someone on YouTube
