Ha Long Bay - The UNESCO World Heritage Site (4K)
Off Northeast Vietnam, Ha Long Bay was designated as one of the World Heritage Sites in 1994. For many reasons, Ha Long Bay has to be on your list when you travel to Vietnam.

Ha Long Bay, Vietnam By Drone (4K)
Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the seven natural wonders of the world, located in Quang Ninh province, about 170 km from Hanoi. The bay features 1,960 – 2,000 of limestone karsts and islets in various shapes and sizes.
The best way to discover this bay is by boat. Depending on your budget, you can choose a cruiser or diesel-boat to explore Halong Bay. Stay at least an overnight as there are plenty of things to see and do here.
You can go to Halong Bay from Hanoi by bus (at My Dinh Bus Station, there will be a bus every hour), travel time is about 3,5 hours, the fare is about 200 000 VND (10 USD); or buy a tour to visit Halong Bay, popular 2-day-1-night tour from 1 500 000 VND/person, departing in Hanoi.
Come to the Bay once in your life, and you will agree that Halong Bay is one of the best places to visit in Vietnam.

Visiting Halong Bay is like stepping in a beautiful painting, where the sky harmonizes with fresh green water, embellished by giant stone mountains. With so much to offer for travelers, Halong
promises you an overwhelmed feeling right at the moment you arrive at the place.
The whole of Halong Bay or sometimes referred to as the Gulf of Tonkinhas an area of around 1,500 km2, which contains approximately 1,969 islands and islets made from karst limestone towering like skyscrapers throughout the bay, formed through millions of years.
TOP HALONG BAY TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
- Sung Sot Cave
legend tells that after defeating the An aggressors, Thanh Giong ( the Saint Giong)
helped villagers chase devils and demonds away from the village and flew to heaven. He left his stone horse and swore to keep protecting his people. Sung Sot Cave was where the villagers kept all the vestige of arms and Saint Giong`s foot prints, which became small lakes with huges stones surrounded. The name Sung Sot means amazed feeling and it was first found by French travelers and called Grotte Des Surprises(the cave of surprises) in a travell book established in 1938. Being one of the widest and most special caves, Sung Sot Cave is located in the center of the bay, inside Bo Hon Island. Despite having a small gate, the cave amazed visitors with its giant inner space, which probably explains the surprising name.
-Ti Top Island
In the early years, the island was less know and it was called the Graveyard island. The name was in memorial of the death of a French cargo ship crew, who faced disaster nearby and buried on the island. It was kept until 1962 when Ho Chi Minh visited the island with a soviet astronaut named Gherman S. Ti Tov. He asked the locals to name this island after Gherman`s, and from then on, Ti Top has become a symbol of friendship between Vietnam and the Soviet Union. Unlike other 2,000 tourist spots in Halong, Ti Top not only have a beautiful nature view but also owns a fabulous sandy beach called Ti Top Beach or Vang Trang Beach(which means the moon beach, because the sandy beach looks like the moon hanging onto the island mountain. If you only have seen one picture of Halong Bay, it was likely taken from the crest of the Ti Top Island.
-Dau Go Cave
History recorded an event when Dau Go Cave was the place where spear-shapes woodpiles were hidden by Vietnam soldiers to build a battle field and destroy Mongol`s ships during the war against their invasion in the 13th century. Dau Go Cave has a huge 5,000m2 space inside. From outside, the cave`s gate is filled with emerald hue with a shape of a jelly-fish. Surprised by the beauty of Dau Go Cave Khai Dinh Kingonce wrote a poem praising it and engraved it on the left of the cave.
Halong Bay area is less populated compared to other cities in Vietnam, due to the fact that the governement has moved all floating villages residents to the mainland for better living standards, leaving the whole bay for tourism. Halong residents are friendly and hospitable since their main income is driven by tourism, besides fishing.

Halong Bay is a beautiful natural wonder in northern Vietnam near the Chinese border. The Bay is dotted with 1,600 limestone islands and islets and covers an area of over 1,500 sqkm. This extraordinary area was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. For many tourists, this place is like something right out of a movie. The fact is that Halong Bay features a wide range of biodiversity, while the surrealistic scenery has indeed featured in endless movies.
The best way to get to Halong City is by car, minibus or bus from Hanoi which is only 170km away. If budget is not a problem, an hour-long helicopter transfer is also available.

Towering limestone pillars and tiny islets topped by forest rise from the emerald waters of the Gulf of Tonkin. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1994, Halong Bay's scatter of islands, dotted with wind- and wave-eroded grottoes, is a vision of ethereal beauty and, unsurprisingly, northern Vietnam's number one-tourism hub.

Hòn Trống Mái là một biểu tượng của du lịch Việt Nam, nằm ở phía tây nam vịnh Hạ Long, cách cảng tàu du lịch Bãi Cháy 5 km, gần hòn Đỉnh Hương. Giữa một vùng biển nước bao la, hai con gà một con trống và một con mái hiện lên ngạo nghễ trên mặt. Lúc bình minh lên từ phía xa chiếu ánh sáng rực rỡ nhuộm đỏ đôi gà khổng lồ bên nhau trên sóng nước mênh mông. Từ mặt nước, chiều cao mỗi con tới hơn chục mét. Tấm thân khổng lồ đứng trên cái chân thót lại, thế chênh vênh tưởng chừng chỉ vài con sóng vỗ mạnh, cả khối đá nặng ấy có thể đổ ập xuống bất cứ lúc nào. Nhưng không, đã hàng triệu năm trôi qua, hai con gà vẫn thuỷ chung đứng đó. Dường như sự hấp dẫn được nhân lên ở đôi chân không cân đối đó. Ðã có rất nhiều tác phẩm nhiếp ảnh, hội họa, thơ ca… về hai con gà này. Hình ảnh của chúng đã trở thành biểu tượng của du lịch Hạ Long và Du lịch Việt Nam.

Trong Mai is a symbol of Vietnam tourism, located southwest of Ha Long Bay, 5 km from Bai Chay tourist port, near Dinh Huong Island. In the middle of the vast waters, two chickens a male and a female appeared arrogantly on their faces. At dawn, from the distance shone bright light, dyed red giant chickens together on the immense water. From the water surface, each one reaches a height of over ten meters. The giant body stood on the back of the foot, so it seemed that only a few waves were pounding, the heavy stone could collapse at any time. But no, millions of years have passed, two chickens still standing there faithfully. It seems that gravity is multiplied on those unbalanced legs. There have been many works of photography, painting, poetry ... about these two chickens. Their image has become a symbol of Ha Long tourism and Vietnam tourism.

Ha long Bay is a bay located in the area of the Gulf of Tangkia, north of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. It has an area of 1,500 square kilometers and has a coastline about 120 kilometers away from Hanoi. The name was based on the pronunciation in the Vietnam language Viet Nam Ha Long.

The bay consists of a dense cluster of some 1,600 limestone monolithic islands each topped with thick jungle vegetation, rising spectacularly from the ocean. Several of the islands are hollow, with enormous caves. Hang Dau Go (Wooden Stakes cave) is the largest grotto in the Ha Long area. French tourists visited in the late 19th century, and named the cave Grotte des Merveilles. Its three large chambers contain large numerous stalactites and stalagmites (as well as 19th-century French graffiti). There are two bigger islands, Tuần Châu and Cát Bà, that have permanent inhabitants, as well as tourist facilities including hotels and beaches. There are a number of beautiful beaches on the smaller islands.
A community of around 1,600 people live on Hạ Long Bay in four fishing villages: Cua Van, Ba Hang, Cong Tau and Vong Vieng in Hung Thang ward, Ha Long city. They live on floating houses and are sustained through fishing and marine aquaculture (cultivating marine biota), plying the shallow waters for 200 species of fish and 450 different kinds of mollusks. Many of the islands have acquired their names as a result of interpretation of their unusual shapes. Such names include Voi Islet (elephant), Ga Choi Islet (fighting cock), Khi Islet (monkey), and Mai Nha Islet (roof). 989 of the islands have been given names. Birds and animals including bantams, antelopes, monkeys, and lizard also live on some of the islands.
Floating fishing village
Almost all these islands are as individual towers in a classic fenglin landscape with heights from 50–100 metres (160–330 ft), and height/width ratios of up to about six.
Another specific feature of Hạ Long Bay is the abundance of lakes inside the limestone islands. For example, Dau Be island has six enclosed lakes. All these island lakes occupy drowned dolines within fengcong karst.
Hạ Long Bay is located in northeastern Vietnam, from E106°55' to E107°37' and from N20°43' to N21°09'. The bay stretches from Quang Yen town, past Hạ Long city, Cẩm Phả city to Vân Đồn District, bordered on the south and southeast by Lan Ha Bay, on the north by Hạ Long city, and on the west by Bai Tu Long Bay. The bay has a 120-kilometre-long (75 mi) coastline and is approximately 1,553 km2 (600 sq mi) in size with about 2,000 islets. The area designated by UNESCO as the World Natural Heritage Site incorporates 434 km2 (168 sq mi) with 775 islets, of which the core zone is delimited by 69 points: Dau Go island on the west, Ba Ham lake on the south and Cong Tay island on the east. The protected area is from the Cái Dăm petrol store to Quang Hanh ward, Cẩm Phả city and the surrounding zone.
Ha Long means Bay of Descending Dragons, though prior to the 19th century this name was not recorded in any document or archive. When mentioning the present-day Quang Ninh Sea or Ha Long Bay, old historical books often referred to them by the names of An Bang, Luc Thuy or Van Don. Not until the late 19th century did the name of Ha Long Bay appear on a French Marine Map. The Hai Phong News, a French newspaper of the time, had an article, Dragon appears on Ha Long Bay, reporting the following story: In 1898 a sub-lieutenant named Lagredin, captaining the Avalanse reported seeing a huge sea snake on Ha Long Bay. This was also witnessed by many of the crews. Thus emerged the European image of the Asian dragon. Whether this appearance of a strange animal looking like a dragon resulted the name of Ha Long Bay is not known.
There are several buses departing from Hanoi to Halong city. Haloong city is 160 km away and it takes roughly three and a half hours plus the journey from the bus station to the pier, which is about 15 minutes. From the ferry pier, you can take the boat to go to Koh Gadbah island.
Another choice is driving from Hanoi to Haiphong province. From bus station to the pier, it will take 10 minutes. Then, you can ride boat to Koh Bah which will take two hours.

Ha Long Bay is a small bay on the west coast of the Gulf of Tonkin in the Northeastern Sea region of Vietnam, including the island waters of Ha Long city in Quang Ninh province.
In 1962, the Ministry of Culture and Information (Vietnam) ranked Ha Long Bay as a national scenic relic and planned a protected area. In 1994, the core area of Ha Long Bay was recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage with aesthetic value (standard vii), and was re-recognized for the second time with outstanding global geo-geological value. Ha Long Bay (standard viii) in 2000. Along with Nha Trang Bay and Lang Co Bay of Vietnam, Ha Long Bay is one of the 29 bays ranked and officially recognized by the Club of the World's Most Beautiful Bays in July 2003.

Travellers who been in Thailand have seen maybe something similar - Phang Nga Nationalpark around James Bond Island. The movie James Bond - man with the golden gun has been filmed mostly in Halong Bay. Just only 28seconds of the famous James Bond movie has been filmed in Phang Nga Nationalpark - just only the scenes of that specific island. But both landscapes are breathtaking beautiful.
I would recommend to start your trip to Halong bay from Cat Ba - a little island nearby the bay.
