Treehouses, fale's, and the answer to the question, “what happens when you sail to a place you love so much you don’t want to leave.”

WHO ARE WE?

We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn. We been living #OffTheGrid and exploring the world for 10 years.
Our first six years of #travel were an epic road trip around North America.
Now we’re on a #sailing voyage about the world. Did we have any previous sailing experience, of course not!
Neither of us is overly talented, smart, rich, lucky, or retired. But that doesn’t stop us from reaching far-flung destinations, having wild #adventure and managing everything that makes living aboard a moving vessel possible.
We’re two ordinary people that just so happen to live an extraordinary life.
And this is why we publish our lives on the world wide web. We share in hopes of inspiring you to find your adventure.

Real Life on a Remote Island ????️ || Palmerston Cook Islands - Population 35

???? AWESOME tunes for vids:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Palmerston Island is one of those places we’ll remember forever. It’s the most remote place we’ve ever sailed, but that isn’t what makes it so memorable. The islanders have completely immersed us into their world from the moment we set our feet in the sand.

When we decided to buy a boat and set off into the deep blue, I dreamed of all the possibilities and experiences we would have. But I never expected it to play out so vividly in reality.

Yet, here we are, far away from civilization, living off coconuts and fish, playing with free spirited island kids and seeing firsthand what life is like when you live isolated with 34 of your relatives.

Fiji Hot Rock Oven!! ???? Unseen FIJIAN FOOD + Remote Pacific Island Life!

???????? The Ultimate Fiji Food Tour:
???? T-shirts:
???? Ghost Chili:

LAU ISLANDS, FIJI - We’re in extremely remote Fiji, in the Lau group of islands, also some of the most beautiful and unvisited islands in Fiji. We had the special opportunity to go into a number of island Fijian villages to learn about the culture and especially cook and eat the local food.

Thank you to my friend Andhy Blake for arranging my trip to Fiji: and to Captain Cook Cruises ( for taking us on this once in a lifetime Fiji cruise to the remote Lau Islands - only accessible by boat.

1. Vanua Balavu Island, Lau Islands, Fiji
We arrived to our first island called Vanua Balavu. I love how Fiji is very traditional and when you arrive to a village they still have a protocol to respect the traditional land owners and ask the permission of the village Chief. To do so we brought kava with us to present to the Chief and once accepted we were able to be on the island and start filming. They prepared a dish called Vakasakera, moringa leaves with coconut milk, barracuda fish, and some local shellfish similar to abalone. After an amazing meal, we toured and swam around the Bay of Islands - spectacular!

2. Fulaga Island, Lau Islands, Fiji
We continued our cruise in Fiji to the Fulaga islands, sometimes regarded as the most beautiful islands in all of Fiji - maybe in the South Pacific. The island is famous for their local sea cockles, which looked quite a lot like huge blood cockles. They harvested them right out of the ocean then opened them up and marinated them with onions and lime juice and coconut milk. Freshest and most delicious cockles ever.

3. Kabara Island, Lau Islands, Fiji
Finally to continue this remote Fijian food tour we visited Kabara island where they prepared, along with Captain Cook Cruises, a Fijian lovo for 100 people! A lovo is the Fijian version of an underground hot rock oven which is common throughout Melanesia and Polynesia and in other cultures around the world. It was a fantastic process and the food was smoky and tender.

I BOUGHT A LAND IN SIARGAO | Island Living

This is my journey on how I came to find this island home. It wasn't an easy journey as it requires so much time, effort and courage. Never did I imagine myself going lengths just to find a piece of land--risking it all.

Nevertheless, this must be the place.

Settling into Life in Koh Samui ???????? Thailand Island Living ???? We Left Bangkok

We've made our way back to a Thailand Island again, this time to Koh Samui! We're spending a good amount of time living here in the town of Lamai.

We start off walking on Lamai Beach in Koh Samui.

We make our way through the town stopping at the local fresh food market to buy some local produce to make dinner:

Afterwards we head down the street to a restaurant to try some Chinese style noodles here:

On our walk back to our apartment we stop for the best coffee we've found in all of Lamai (it's also the cutest coffee shop):

Lastly we head back to our apartment rental to give a full tour of the place, including the pool and inside the apartment, book it here:

Monster surge protector (we highly recommend as it saved our laptops during a power surge):

Living in a hidden Palawan houseboat on Coron Island, Philippines

A lot of people considering a trip to the Philippines wonder what it’s like to wake up in a floating, off-grid, over the water, eco-hut in a private lagoon off Coron island. Well, it's incredible.

These houseboats are the only accommodations and restaurant in Coron Island. The island is a National Reserve, Marine Reserve, Unesco Biosphere Reserve and the Ancestral Land of the Tagbanua Tribe.

Paolyn Houseboats employs over 124 people, including many members of the Tagbanua Tribe.

But no trip to the Philippines would be legit without visiting Coron island. This uninhabited jewel is popular for eco-tourism, world-class diving, and seeing WW2 shipwrecks. It’s also a favorite spot among Filipinos themselves, so you know it’s good.

While there, we took a full-day, guided tour with 2 members of the island’s ancestral tribe, the tagbanua, so if you’re planning a visit yourself, this is the episode for you. Let’s jump in.

ABOUT US.

We’re the Lockwoods: a family with 3 kids, 5 careers, and endless passion for adventure. Two years ago, we decided it was time for Phil's ad agency to abandon the in-person, 5-day workweek. So they 86’d the office and work hours, allowing our own family to start traveling almost constantly. We now work, school, and explore in a different place every week—from our own mountain and beach homes to exotic villas, resorts, and yachts around the world. As we experience and support diverse cultures, we hope to inspire more families to design a life of freedom and adventure.

Because there’s a new American Dream. It’s one that’s void of templated expectations, templated career paths, templated education, templated families, templated homes, and templated lives. Freedom is no longer an American tagline—it’s just the new, global way of life.

Every day that you spend doing something that doesn’t fulfill you to your core, you’re living your life on pause. You’re deferring genuine family time with no guarantee that there will be a tomorrow or a someday. Some people follow that mentality their entire lives. We’ve chosen to never live that way again.

We appreciate you following our journey. The more our channel grows, the more time we can spend traveling to more locations, contributing to these cultures, highlighting local businesses, and sharing inspiring stories from these communities. So please consider liking, commenting, and subscribing so that you can stick with us for the long haul.

These people originated from the lands near Puno, Peru, but in the 1450s the Incan empire came to battle. Instead of fighting the Uros people fled to the water and over the years learned how to make their own floating homes from reeds!

Getting to our Little Island Home - Day 5 - Life in Thailand

This morning we woke up early and left for Koh Tao. For $30 USD we were able to get a 6 hour bus ride plus 3 hours on a high-speed ferry. Once we were moving on the ferry we were greeted with a wall of water. Trying to get away from it Eli slipped and fell on his face and had everyone laughing. However 30 seconds later everyone was soaking wet while we were under a nice dry roof.
In the afternoon we pulled into Koh Tao which will hopefully be our home for the next several months.

Southern Living Idea House on Crane Island

We are proud and excited that our very own Crane Island community was chosen by Southern Living Magazine as the backdrop for their 2019 idea house. An idea house inspires new home design trends and showcases the very latest in home decor.

The Southern Living Idea House is ideally situated on a cul-de-sac in the exclusive new private island community of Crane Island. Surrounded with a dreamy canopy of century-old live oak trees dripping with moss and overlooking the water, the Southern Living Idea House tells a story of southern charm and hospitality from the front door to the back porches.
