News from the 2019 World Series of Poker: June 20

Several more events are in the books at the 2019 World Series of Poker as Ismael Bojang was crowned champion of Event #40: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha after beating 1,206 entries. Bojang beat James Little heads-up and took home his first WSOP gold bracelet and a top prize of almost $300K

If you watched the live streamed LFG podcast yesterday for Ladies week you got to see Katie Stone and Jamie Kerstetter playing LIVE in the $500 WSOP.com ONLINE No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack It took only a little over seven hours to play down to a winner
And it was Dan 'centrefieldr' Lupo that had all the chips at the end of play and about one hundred and forty five K.

Joseph Cheong won the first bracelet of his career in Event #34: $1K Double Stack. Cheong takes home the first-place prize of almost $700k for his victory after defeating a four-figure field putting him at over $6,300,000 in total earnings at the World Series of Poker.

The big bracelet event going down on the main stage yesterday with all the attention featured Daniel Negreanu, Frank Kasella, John Hennigan and David “ODB” Baker. John Hennigan topped a field of 88 of the world’s best in Event #41: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship to earn a first place prize of two hundred and forty five k and his 6th wsop bracelet. If there was any question as to his status as one of the worlds best 7 card stud players, the questions should remain no longer.

A bracelet has already been distributed today in Event #42: $600 Mixed No-Limit Hold'em / Pot-Limit Omaha Deepstack Having performed an extraordinary chip-and-chair comeback from under one big blind, the champion of the $600 NLH/PLO is Aris Moschonas,

Five players remain in Event #43: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet leading the pack is Ryan Hughes. Hughes missed out on his third bracelet after finishing runner-up in this exact event last year. Have a look at the leaderboard.

Event #39: $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold’em is coming back for an extra day to determine the winner and there are just 3 players left as we speak. the most recognizable name left in the field is two-time WSOP bracelet winner Barry Shulman and we spoke to his wife Allyn on the break of the ladies event.

Speaking of the Ladies event…In a week which is traditionally known as 'Ladies Week' in Las Vegas, there are many events running that cater for female poker players especially. But the headline has and always will be the Ladies Championship here at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. Last year’s tournament attracted 696 entries and the 2018 winner, Jessica Dawley, will be defending her title this year.

There are two other days ones today, event 48 is the 2500 no limit hold em, It already has almost as many entries as the ladies this is sure to create a big prize pool.

And at just about at the halfway point the mixed-game portion of the docket is in full swing. Just a week after the $1,500 version of this variant took place, it's time for the world championship of Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw to take center stage.

We will of course be with you every step of the way as we crown champions in all these events and more so keep your cursor locked firmly on PokerNews.com.

2019 World Series of Poker: The Polar Bear Returns

It has been several years since we have seen a polar bear in Day 3 of an event. In 2017 we saw Brandon Shack-Harris playing in this costume and now in 2019 his buddy Eric Rodawig is carrying on the tradition in the same event . $1500 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or better.
Both players are members of a home game community including the likes of bracelet winner and musician Steve Albini. Part of their game has evolved into a poker clothing line featuring nittykitty and this year Rodawig speaks about the release of the next incarnation of Nitty Kitty, Run it Twice Mice. 2019 World Series of Poker News: They Hurt The Equity of the Game

2018 Player of the Year Shaun Deeb is the chip leader coming into Day 4 of the Event #35: $10,000 Dealer's Choice Championship. WSOP Player of the Year and four-time WSOP bracelet winner Shaun Deeb finished Day 3 with 2,601,000 in chips and if a decision wasn't made to end the day early, he was the favorite to collect his fifth WSOP bracelet.

The decision to end Day 3 early was met with backlash from some, and joy from others. The WSOP staff ruled that because players were told earlier that play would end at six, instead of continuing to play the scheduled seven levels, play would end for the day unless there was a unanimous vote. Friedman and Michael McKenna voted to end for the day, while Deeb, Matt Glantz, and David Moskowitz opposed.

Deeb explains how this decision, Hurt Integrity and Equity of the Tournament and was primarily an opportunity for the players with less experience in the game he started calling to go home and study.

What do you think? You can follow the action with no delay, hand for hand here:

News From the 2019 World Series of Poker: June 17

Welcome to your update from June 17th at the 50th annual World Series of Poker from City of Sin, Sun and Poker, Las Vegas Nevada. This is what you need to know.
Two bracelets were awarded yesterday and one of them…well…we aren’t even sure if he was wearing pants. Upeshka De Silva shipped Event #38: WSOP.com ONLINE No-Limit Hold'em Knockout Bounty. You will probably recognize that name as he just final tabled the 3k 6 max a few days ago. He already has two other bracelets so this will be the third bracelet to add to his collection and since he collected a whopping 18 bounties he added more than a hundred K to his bank account.

The other bracelet top play down to a winner yesterday was the 1k seniors event which was meant to start the day with 6, but ended up with 19. After fourteen hours of play Howard Mash, a financial advisor from Florida, pulled all the chips his way and admitted that while he is an amateur and considers poker a hobby, it is a hobby he takes seriously. And with almost three hundred and twenty K in prior winnings, his story checks out.

Eyes were glued to the $10K dealers choice yesterday, but players were less than thrilled when play stopped at just 5 players. if a decision wasn't made to end the day early, Shaun Deeb was the favorite to collect his fifth WSOP bracelet. He is still the man to catch with the chip lead but Adam Friedman is right behind him and has strong motivation as he is looking to win this event for the 2nd time in a row. That being said, Shaun Deeb is looking to become the back to back player of the year and he revealed the early stop put him in a bad position for that.

One of my favorite tournament formats is in round 3 today with 10 players left and everyone in the money. Event #36: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’Em Shootout Has some of pokers finest in the mix and should be very exciting to watch. Justin Bonomo, Lucky Chewy and Alexandru Papazian are all still in the mix. Have a look at the table draw and follow the action with no delay hand for hand on pokernews.com

Event #34: $1,000 Double Stack No-Limit Hold'em is returning today, day 3, with three hundred and fifty nine player of the starting field of six thousand two hundred and fourteen! There is almost seven hundred thousand dollars up top so if there was ever a questions as to the popularity of the low buy in, deep stack events, this should confirm…yep, keep em coming.

Another tourney with the same concept is the $800 Deepstack, that field returns for its Day 2 today and will have more than the usual amount of attention since some of the players sitting down including Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth and Kelly Minkin.

In case the Seniors didn’t get enough the first time around, starting today there is a $1k Super Seniors event for one more shot at a bracelet in a non-open event, the only difference is, these players must be at least 60.

If you are interested in a game of Pot Limit Omaha, today marks the beginning of Event #40: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha which is sure to attract some of the lovers of this poker variant.

If you are looking for a fun event to round out your summer schedule the PokerNews Podcast family is hosting an event on July 8 at the Planet Hollywood where you will get the opportunity to mix and mingle with fans and hosts alike.

News from the 2019 World Series of Poker: June 16

Welcome to your update from June 16th, the 19th day of the 50th annual world series of poker at the Rio all suite hotel and casino.

Two bracelets were awarded yesterday and one of them came in an event that started a week ago!

Event #26: $2,620 No-Limit Hold'em Marathon Jared Koppel, came into the day as the overwhelming chip leader but the heads-up battle was nothing short of exciting. The pendulum swung back and forth multiple times and both players had their opponent on the brink of elimination.Ultimately Russian online poker pro Roman Korenev captured his first WSOP gold bracelet and a payday of more than $477K.

On the other side of the amazon Chants of “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!” filled the space in the early morning hours as Event #33: $1,500 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw came to a conclusion after almost ten hour-long levels. Robert Campbell bested a field of 467 to take home a prize of $144K.

Today the 1k Seniors event will come to a close. What started as five thousand nine hundred and sixteen players is now just 19. Last night play was meant to stop at 6 players but after 10 hours of play there were still 19 left in content for the top prize of more than six hundred sixty two k up top I for one can’t wait to get my AARP card.

Event 34 the $1k Double Stack attracted a whopping field of six thousand two hundred and fourteen entries creating a top prize of almost six hundred and eighty eight k. With more than two thousand three hundred and twenty seven players left there is still a a lot of play to be had and with players like Ari Engel, Scott Clements, Diogo Viega Antoine Saout with leading chip stacks we are definitely going to keep our eyes on this tournament.

The $10k Delaers Choice always attracts the cream of the poker crop so to speak and returns today with 11 such players battling it out for the bracelet and more than $300K. Adam Friendman is looking to make history as he attempts to win this event back to back and confirm himself and one of the most versatile players in the game. Other players still in the mix include Fan fav Nick Schulman, the controversial 2018 Player of the year Shaun Deeb as well as Matt Glantz.

The $3k Shootout is definitely a unique and popular tournament with a format that plays out as a series of Sit and Gos until you are left with only one man standing. Three hundred and thirteen players were spread over 40 tables and in the end some of pokers biggest names were left standing including Byron Kaverman, Justin Bonomo, Kristen Bicknell and Andrew “Lucky Chewy” Lichtenberger. Round two will kick off today at 2pm.

We had another 10am start this morning courtesy of the $800 Deepstack event that already has at least a thousand entries but the entries are coming so fast we can barely keep up. But as always as the information comes in from the WSOP the PokerNews audience will be the first to know.

In addition to the low buy in, deep stack tournaments that are sprinkled throughout the 2019 schedule, another type of tournament that is relatively unique to be seen so frequently on the 2019 schedule, an online tournament will be starting its first day today. The tournament begins at 3:30pm local time and late reg will be open until 7:15pm. It is a No Limit Hold Em Knockout Bounty so if you are in Nevada, you can win a WSOP bracelet from the comfort of you own home.
If you are going to be in town on June 30th, be sure to check out the All IN for CP charity poker tournament at the Aria sponsored by the One Step Closer Foundation.

News From The 2019 World Series Of Poker: June 22

It’s now over halfway through the 2019 World Series Of Poker and here are all of the updates that you need to know today.

Last night saw the $1,500 Bounty tournament crown a winner. 1,807 players started this event but it was Asi Moshe who was the last man standing. Asi takes home his third WSOP bracelet and at one point when they were four handed he found himself with almost 60% of the chips in play. He used his big stack aggressively but then three handed he saw his 7 to 1 chip lead do a complete turn around as he ended up as one of the short stacks. He managed to recompose himself and eventually regained control to knock both of the remaining players out to earn himself $253,000 for his first place finish as well as all that extra bounty money!

Just 7 players will be returning today to finish the $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller event. As to be expected there are some big names still left in contention including chip leader Stephen Chidwick. This is Chidwick’s first WSOP event this year as he has just become a brand new Father! Congratulations to Stephen and this tournament could become another new first for him as he looks to win his first WSOP bracelet.

The $1,000 Ladies tournament will see 43 women return today. This event is due to play down to a final 6 players which will be finished tomorrow. Almost 1000 players entered this event which has generated a first place prize of $167,308. Tu Dao was down to just 13 big blinds in the last level of the day but went on an insane heater to run up her stack from around 150,000 to 850,000 which has now bagged her the chip lead. Ana Marquez comes in the day as another chip leader and she is looking to improve upon her tenth place finish in the $1,500 Millionaire Maker earlier this series.

26 will return for the $2,500 No Limit event which saw just shy of a 1,000 players enter. Lots of bracelet winners are still in the field including two time bracelet winners Barny Boatman, David Baker and Kristen Bicknell. The winner of this event will take home a very impressive $427,399 as well as one of those very shiny and very exclusive 50th Anniversary WSOP Bracelets.

The $10,000 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw will find it’s winner today. There are only 3 players of the remaining 9 who do not currently have a bracelet. Looking to add to their WSOP bracelet collection will be Brian Hastings, Calvin Anderson and Daniel Ospina who will all be taking their seats as well today.

The $2,500 Mixed - Omaha Hi/Lo 8 or Better / Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8 or better. Yeah, that event will continue today with 128 remaining from the 401 that entered. Some notable names left in this field include bracelet winners - Phil Hellmuth, Shaun Deeb, who is one of the chip leaders & Eli Elezra.

The second and final flight of the $1,500 Monster Stack kicks off today. Yesterday saw 3,928 players enter Day 1A with just over a thousand advancing to Day 2. Yesterday saw Connor Beresford steadily build a stack throughout the day and at the end he found himself bagging the chip lead with over 400 big blind!

The $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 8 Handed event will also begin today. Last year Loren Klein won his third bracelet in this event and just over $1,000,000 after he out lasted 475 other players. In fact, for those of you that don’t know, Klein has etched himself into a WSOP record this year as he recently took down the $2,500 Mixed Big Bet event which means he has now won a WSOP bracelet every year for the past four years. This is something that only Bill Boyd and Doyle Brunson managed to do back in the seventies. Arguably Klein’s achievement is slightly more impressive with him doing it in the modern era of Poker which draw larger field sizes for the events.

News from the 2019 World Series of Poker: June 23

Sasha Salinger is bringing you the biggest poker headlines from June 23rd.

Stephen Chidwick finally won his first WSOP bracelet yesterday. The Brit won the $25K Pot Limit Omaha Event for $1.618,417. In fact, Chidwick entered this 25K PLO event at the very last minute of late registration on Day 2.

Apparently, Tom Dwan “Durrrr” is in Las Vegas. Will he be playing in a World Series of Poker event? We will be the first to tell you if so!

The Final Table of the 2019 World Series of Poker Main Event

The 2019 World Series of Poker Main Event. is down to just nine players. The final nine players are all guaranteed $1 million, but of course, each player has their eye on the first place prize of $10 million. The remaining players will have Saturday, July 13th as a day of rest and will return on Sunday, July 14th to play from 9 down to 6 players live on TV.
Yesterday, Robert Heidorn was eliminated in 10th place. Alex Livingston busted the final table bubble boy.
Coming into the final 9 as a massive chip leader is Hossein Ensan. He won of the EPT Prague Main Event back in 2015 and has over $2.6 million in live tournament cashes.
Garry Gates comes to the final table with the second biggest stack of 99.3 million in chips. Garry used to work at PokerNews and now works for PokerStars Live Events and VIP Services.
Ensign and Gates really have a significant lead over the rest of the pack 177 and 99 big blinds going into Sunday where blinds are 500,000 / 1,000,000 with a 1 million ante.
Zhen Cai comes into the final table 3rd in chips with 60.6 million. Cai primarily plays pot-limit Omaha cash, but his friend and poker coach, Tony Miles, knows a thing or two about deep WSOP Main Event runs. If you’ve been following the WSOP coverage, you may know Cai as the player who knocked out Richard Seymour.

Kevin Maahs will come to the final table 4th in chips with 43 million. The Chicago native played smaller tournaments in the midwest, but this year, he decided to come to to Vegas and play his first World Series of Poker Main Event. He max late registered the Main Event by buying in on Day 2.

Milos Skrbic heads into tomorrow 7th in chips with just over 23 big blinds. The Serbian pro recently made the switch from playing high stakes cash games to playing tournaments. December of last year, he got one of his biggest cashes losing heads up to Dylan Linde in the $10,000 WPT Five Diamond Poker Classic.

Alex Livingston will head into the final table 5th in chips with 37.8 million. Livingston finished 13th in the 2013 WSOP Main Event.

6th in chips is well known high stakes pro Dario Sammartino. He has over $8 million in live tournament cashes and is considered one of the best players in the world. Watch to hear Sarah explain what dealer error caused Sammartino to lose an over 60 big blind pot late into yesterday's play.

Nick Marchington comes to the final table last in chips with 20 big blinds. This is the first time Marchington is playing the Main Event because he is just 21 years old. If Marchington wis, he would be the youngest player to win the WSOP Main Event.

Timothy Su is second to last in chips. Su considers himself a mostly recreational poker player who makes his living as a software engineer. It was Su who now famously busted Sam Greenwood from the Main Event.

Adam Friedman Wins Back-to-Back Dealers Choice Championships!

Four days ago a total of 122 players took a seat in the fifth installment of the Dealer's Choice Championship to create a prize pool of $1,146,800 that would pay the top 19 spots. Each player would be tested on their all-round skills over a variety of flop, draw, and stud games, and with 20 games to choose from, players would need to apply both their skills to actual game play along with game selection as they looked to gain edges over their competition.

Friedman talks to Sarah Herring about his overall strategy, addresses the controversy with Shaun Deeb and comments on his price in the $25k Fantasy Draft.

To hear what Shaun Deeb said before play started check out this interview:

Live Reporting:

Here is a peek at some of the biggest and dramatic wins of the 3rd week. Michael “the Grinder Mizrachi” managed to bag his 5th bracelet in the $1500 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better. Of course we were right there when the last card was dealt and in the fashion we’ve come to love from the Grinder he compared his winning 5 bracelets to popping out kids.

All eyes were glued to the $10K Dealers Choice this week as Shaun Deeb and Adam Friedman battled it out. Shaun was unhappy with the decision to stop play 5 handed and come back for Day 4.

Deeb finished runner-up and the bigger story shifted to the fact that Adam Friedman won this tournament back-to-back, making him arguably the most versatile poker player in the world.

Drama continued in the argument about whether to include the Final Fify in the Fantasy Draft. This affects both fantasy drafts and many side bets with LOTS of Money on the line. People seemed divided evenly on both sides of the issue and so Daniel Negreanu decided to institute three neutral arbitrators, Isaac Haxton, Jason Somerville and Phil Galfond.

And as of Late last night the issue has been put to bed. The additional tournament will not be included.
Upeshka De Silva has catapulted into the lead in the 2019 WSOP Player of the Year race after having earned his third career bracelet in Event #38: $600 WSOP.com ONLINE No-Limit Hold'em Knockout Bounty That finish came just after De Silva came in third in Event #31: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em Six-Handed which along with four other cashes give him enough points currently to sit at No. 1. Have a look at where the players stand to date.

Yesterday, the $600 No-Limit Hold'em Deepstack Championship played down to 83 players from the original 6,140 entrants. T
The $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better is down to just 58 players out of the original field of 1,117. The plan for today is to play down to a winner, but that may be subject to change.
$400 Colossus tournament’s Day 1a got 5218 entries. We are expecting even bigger numbers for today’s Day 1b.
The last event that kicked off yesterday was the $10,000 Razz Championship. WSOP bracelet winner Andre Akkari bagged the chip lead but Calvin Anderson, who won this event last year doesn’t follow too far behind.
Only one new event starts today: the $1,500 Omaha Mix, which includes three different variants of Omaha. The game changes every 8 hands and those variants are Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better, Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better, and Big O (Five Card Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better).
