Shipwreck Explorers Discover 1850's Schooner in Lake Ontario
A mid 1800s schooner has been discovered in deep water off the southern shore of Lake Ontario near Oak Orchard, New York. Shipwreck enthusiasts Jim Kennard and Dan Scoville finally located the old schooner after a search effort that took them more than 5 years.

Amazing wrecks of Red Sea: Diving Thistlegorm (Part 1)
This is Part I of Diving Thistlegorm videos. During this dive we explored the cargo rooms and the bow of SS Thistlegorm.
SS Thistlegorm sunk on October 6th, 1941 at 1:39AM. Ship dimensions are: length: 126.50 meters (415 feet), breadth: 17.70 meters (58 feet), and draft: 7.45 meters (24.5 feet).
History: The SS Thistlegorm was built by in Sunderland, England and launched in April 1940. The ship was powered by a triple expansion steam engine rated to 365 hp (272 KW). The ship was classified as an armed freighter, being armed with a 4.7-inch (120mm) anti-aircraft gun and a heavy calibre machine gun attached after construction to the stern of the ship.
The final voyage started from Glasgow on 2 June 1941 destined for Alexandria, Egypt. The vessel's cargo included: Bedford trucks, Universal Carrier armoured vehicles, Norton 16H and BSA motorcycles, Bren guns, cases of ammunition, and 0.303 rifles as well as radio equipment, Wellington boots, aircraft parts, and two LMS Stanier Class 8F steam locomotives.
During September 1941 and German Intelligence, Abwehr, suspected that there was a troop carrier in the area bringing in additional troops. Two Heinkel He-111 aircraft were dispatched from Crete to find and destroy the troop carrier. This search failed but one of the bombers discovered the vessels moored in Safe Anchorage F. Targeting the largest ship they dropped two bombs on the Thistlegorm both of which struck hold 4 near the stern of the ship at 0130 on 6 October.
The bomb and the explosion of some of the ammunition stored in hold 4 led to the sinking of the Thistlegorm with the loss of four sailors and five members of the Royal Navy gun crew.
In the early fifties Jacques-Yves Cousteau discovered her by using information from local fishermen. He raised several items from the wreck, including a motorcycle, the Captain's safe, and the ship's bell.

Archaeology project shipwreck in the desert
Nautical Archaeology does not always mean side scan sonar or diving. The hunt for a lost Caravel, 397 years ago a captain thought he found a short cut to the Gulf of Mexico, in fact what he found was the end to his ship. See Paris and die The sailors and the passengers aboard the boat in May 1902 would have been worried about hurricanes and storms but never would they have imagined being hit by such a cataclysm, sprung from the bowels of the earth!
The Roraima was a mixed cargo vessel, owned by the Quebec Line. It left Montreal, sailed to New York, on to Bermuda, Barbados and finally, it made a stop in Martinique in the bay of Saint-Pierre, 90 min before the volcano Mount Pelee erupted. After such a long journey, the passengers were happy to make a stop in a harbour, known as the little Paris of the Antilles. Unfortunately, this stop would be their last one - a stop in hell!
Diving the Roraima lays beyond recreational limits. Her burnt remains are now sitting upright with a slight tilt to her port side. She sits on a sloping bottom where her depth ranges from 165 to 200 feet (45-60 m). The Roraima is mostly intact except for her bow which has broken down and her stern which has split from the main wreckage.
Having laid underwater more than 100 years, the Roraima captures the imagination of divers. Let's go diving with to explore this unbelievably beautiful shipwreck!
