After spending several days visiting all the ancient site and exploring the city we decided it was time to turn our attention to the delicious Greek Food. Food tours are such a fun way to learn about the culture and foods of the countries we visit. Greece may also have the best food we have tried yet. We were big fans of all the different cheeses and dishes we tried throughout the day.

Athens has an excellent selection of Greek Food, Greek Street Food and other amazing places to eat in Athens. Some of of the best places to eat in Athens are included in this video, including Greek Restaurant, Ergon, and famous Greek restaurant Bairaktaris Mitropoleos on Monastiraki which does one of the best Souvlaki in Athens. We include the top 8 Greek foods like Meze with dips and pita bread, Greek cheese, Greek olives, Greek yoghurt, Moussaka, Ouzo, This is our most comprehensive Athens food tour / Greek Food tour.
Top 8 Greek Foods
1. Meze (Ergon Greek Deli): At this amazing Greek Restaurant / Deli we had assorted spreads with pita bread, spreads included Taramosalata smoked white cod roe spread, smoked salmon spread, Kopanisti feta cheese spread with grilled red sweet peppers, Agloritiki eggplant spread, / Tzatziki yoghurt and cucumber spread and hummus.
2. Greek Cheese: There are so many to choose from including Anthotiros, Feta cheese, Galotiri, Graviera, Kasseri, Kefalograviera, Kefalotyri, Ladotyri, Halloumi. One of the best dishes we tried from Ergon Deli was called Bouglourdi which is oven baked feta from Mytilene and Gruyere from Los with peppers.
3. Greek olives and olive oil. The Greek word for olives is elies. The variety of Greek olives is amazing. Cretan Green Olives, Halkithiki Olives, Kalamata Olives.
4. Greek Yoghurt. We love the rich creaminess of Greek Yoghurt. It’s healthy and delicious and contains double the protein of regular yoghurt. My favourite is with fresh fruits, nuts and honey straight from the honey comb.
5. Moussaka. This is one of my favourite Greek dishes. Moussaka is an eggplant and minced meat dish, which resembles the Italian Lasagna.
6. Ouzo. Visitors to Greece will want to try local alcoholic beverage, Ouzo, which is an anise-flavoured aperitif that is widely consumed in Greece. Ouzo tastes similar to other anise liquors like pastis, sambuca, arak, rakı, and mastika.
7. Iced Coffee. We love this refreshing summer drink which is called various things from Frappe, Fredo Cappuccino, Fredo Latte, Fredo espresso.
8. Best Athens Street Food: There is a famous Greek restaurant called Bairaktaris Mitropoleos (bairaktaris.gr) on Monastiraki which does one of the best Souvlaki in Athens. There is also a selection from Greek dishes like Gyro Pita, Souvlaki, Kebab

-Bougatsa, Greek cream filled phyllo pastry. I'm sorry I forgot to say the name of this on the video! It was one of my favorite dishes. The custard filling with the crusty outer layer is to die for!

From there, I'll take you to Athens most famous Greek Taverna for an authentic Greek dinner and live music. Then, I'll take you to the MOST ROMANTIC restaurant in all of Greece for a fine dining experience at the top of Mount Lycabettus, the tallest hill in Athens, and this is a restaurant that will literally take your breath away. Greek Food Tour: American Tries GREEK Food For First Time
How I Find Cheap Flights (IT'S FREE!!):
Get ready for your mouth to water because today we are trying all the delicious, traditional Greek foods that you have to try when visiting Greece! In this Greek food tour, we are trying some cheap, must-have street foods and drinks that’ll have you planning your trip sooner rather than later!
The food in Greece (even the greasy gyros) still had you feeling really good after eating and didn’t give you that “heavy” or “weighed down” feeling after eating. I think it had something to do with the fresh ingredients In the Mediterranean diet that we experienced. I just thought that was interesting and wanted to share that with you.
I also listed the prices below and wanted to mention that for the quantity of food we got, the prices in most places were surprisingly affordable. Of course, if you’re near the port of a town prices are going to be a bit inflated so keep that in mind.
Here’s what we tried and the approximate prices of each for reference (prices vary greatly based on location):
