BEST Australia Road Trip | Adelaide to Melbourne via the Great Ocean Road

We took a 4 day Adelaide to Melbourne road trip vis the incredible Great Ocean Road. This was our 3rd time driving this route in Australia so it was great to also show some of the lesser known sites as well.

We drove from South Australia stopping off at Robe and Mount Gambier before crossing over the state border to drive the Great Ocean Road. This is one of the best campervan road trips you can take in Australia!

What's even better is we hired our campervan for just $5 a day by doing a campervan relocation, which is one of my top tips for travelling Australia on a budget. Take a look at my links below for my blog post on Escapes Etc for everything you need to know about relocation rentals.

From foodies to hikers, backpackers to grey nomads, it offers experiences as diverse as the landscapes, towns and villages to be encountered on the way.

Next time you’re planning a trip from the southeastern corner of South Australia across the border through South-West Victoria, why not take the alternative inland route? You’ll discover the magic of small towns, marvel at rolling green pastures and discover hidden country gems without the crowds.

Featuring Casterton, Heywood, Budj Bim National Park, Macarthur, and Tower Hill.

Great Ocean Road Vlog Day 1 | Melbourne to Apollo Bay (Ep. 1 of 4)

Welcome to the Great Ocean Road drive! A world famous road trip tour right here in Australia, a simple driving itinerary with stunning coastline and amazing food!... ???? Learn how to edit video with Dane — ⬇ More Below ⬇

This is the first vlog in this Great Ocean Road series, with 3 more to come showing more of how we split up our days for the 4 day itinerary. We’ve spent a bit of time in Australia recently but the Great Ocean Road is a bucket list trip for us, so we’re beyond stoked to be here ticking it off!

We kick things off with the drive from Melbourne to Torquay, the gateway to the Great Ocean Road, for breakfast. This is the official starting point and the first change to see the epic coastline we’ll be driving by for the next 4 days.

From there a quick stop in Anglesea before stopping in to Live Wire Park in Lorne. Live Wire Park is powered by nature, the first completely off-grid elevated adventure park in Australia and honestly turned out to be so much fun that we couldn’t stop smiling and laughing like kids! The Shockwave Zip Coaster is the real highlight, a 525 meter long zip line charged by the sheer force of gravity. check out Live Wire Park here —

Then time to explore Lorne, a real highlight of the day for us (as far as towns are concerned), definitely somewhere worth leaving time to explore.

From there our drive onto Apollo Bay is something we regret not really covering, if you’re reading this for inspo for your own trip and planning your itinerary, just note (as we stress in the next vlog) the drive from Lorne to Apollo Bay is STUNNING!

Footage note — this Melbourne and Great Ocean Road vlog series features a lot of drone footage provided by Tourism Australia and Destination NSW given the flying restrictions in the region/at various sites.

New Zealand is an incredibly beautiful country with so much to offer — but it's a lot larger than what you'd expect! We're producing the Ultimate New Zealand Travel Guide, a hub full of Kiwi knowledge to help you on your next adventures here. Take a look —
