The Great Migration: The drama of the river crossing

The river crossing is the most dangerous part of the great migration. Many wildebeests and zebras struggle to get up the banks, in this video one wildebeest finds himself stuck in the rocks and unable to free himself - gripping stuff!

Zebra River Crossing in the Mara River, Kenya

Captured on our CEO's mobile device. They saw 300 zebra crossing the Mara River. They sat and waited for 60 mins for the zebra to cross. There were a lot of stop-starts and much drama! One zebra took the plunge and the rest followed, surrounded by 35 crocks waiting for their bounty.

A Leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve

A leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. This photographer, who either chose to ignore the park rules or just was not briefed correctly, risked his life as a leopard tried to grab his foot.

As you can clearly tell, this vicious leopard was not very impressed and would have harmed the photographer. Even through leopard attacking people is rare, this is not to mean that you should play around with an leopard while on a safari. In fact, the best thing a guide should do when any wildlife gets so close to a tourist vehicle is to move away.

The management of Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya has already banned the camp and the guides who allowed this photographer to get involved in the would-be unfortunate encounter with a leopard.

It's all dust clouds and desperate leaps for this spectacular crossing! Exiting the river here is certainly much easier than entering it for the wildebeest.

2023 Wildebeest Migration in Kenya

The great migration is once again upon us, with the first herds having been spotted already crossing Sand River in Maasai Mara. It is time to pack your binoculars and embark on a wild journey to witness one of nature’s greatest spectacles. Every year, millions of wildebeest, zebras and other antelopes cross the Mara River from the Serengeti in Northern Tanzania to the Maasai Mara in Kenya in search of water and greener pastures. During this time, they brave crocodile-infested waters and try to outwit predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards lying in the wait. It is no wonder that the great migration is one of the most sought-after wildlife experiences in the world
