It was an scary but adventurous Jungle Safari we had in Gorumara National Park (Forest). When returning from Jatraprasad and Rhino Point watchtower in last shift Gypsy Car Safari, we encountered Bison. Yes, face to face meet with wild bison (Gaur) crossing jungle road and staring our gypsy.

Wild Elephant crosses railway line in Jalpaiguri, India
This is how elephants often come under trains and get killed. This wild tusker approached a railway level crossing, in an attempt to cross over to the forest on the other side. Had a train approached just then, it could have been run over... Human-animal conflict is real and unfortunate, in the Indian context.
The elephant sort of plays with the railway level crossing traffic blocks at both ends...

Chitwan National Park was created in 1973. Formerly, the park was a royal hunting reserve. The word Chitwan means Heart of the Jungle. Inscribed on the UNESCO list.

Formerly, Chitwan was a malaria zone. The only inhabitants were Tharu's people, who were resistant to this disease. In the 1950s, malaria had been eradicated using DDT. Then thousands of people settled there. As a result, there was a huge increase in poaching. To prevent the extinction of rhinos, Chitwan National Park was created.
Chitwan National Park has long been regarded as Nepal's third biggest attraction after trekking and the Kathmandu Valley. This huge and beautiful nature reserve protects 932 sq km of sal forest, water marshes and rippling grassland. The park is one of the last refuges of the endangered one-horned rhino and there are sizeable populations of tigers, leopards and rare Gangetic dolphins.

Gorumara was a reserve forest since 1895. The park was declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1949, on account of its breeding population of Indian rhinoceros. It was declared an Indian National Park on January 31, 1994
This National Park in northern West Bengal, India. Located in the Dooars or Terai region of the Himalayan foothills, it is a medium-sized park with grasslands and forests. It is primarily known for its population of Indian rhinoceros. The park is located on the bank of rivers Murti and Raidak and has vegetation of riverine grasslands interspersed with savannah woodlands. Much of the forest is moist deciduous and sal (shorea robusta) is the most common and valuable tree. Teak, simul, siris, khair are also found here. Gorumara National Park | Part-2 | Elephant Safari from Kalipur Eco Village | In search of Rhinos
To enjoy the elephant safari you have to book any 1 of the 3 jungle cottages operated by west Bengal forest dept. We stayed at Kalipur Eco village near Medla watch tower in mid January. Afternoon slot is recommended as in morning there is heavy fog in winters. It's a complementary ride of 30 mint in the grasslands of Gorumara. The 'Mahut' will go deep in the jungle if you pay extra. Overall a great experience.
