The Chapel of the Ascension is a shrine located on the Mount of Olives, in the At-Tur district of Jerusalem. Part of a larger complex consisting first of a Christian church and monastery, then an Islamic mosque, it is located on a site the faithful traditionally believed to be the earthly spot where Jesus ascended into Heaven after His Resurrection. It houses a slab of stone believed to contain one of His footprints. The Status Quo, a 250-year-old understanding between religious communities, applies to the site.
Origin and traditions
Shortly after the death and resurrection of Jesus, early Christians began gathering in secret to commemorate His Ascension at a small cave on the Mount of Olives. The issuance of the Edict of Milan by the Roman Emperor Constantine I in 313 made it possible for Christians to worship overtly without fear of government persecution. By the time of the pilgrim Egeria's travels to Jerusalem in 384, the spot of veneration had been moved to the present location, uphill from the cave,[3] which had been integrated into the Constantinian Church of Eleona, dedicated by then just to Jesus' teachings about good and evil (Matthew 24:1-26:2). Egeria witnessed the celebration of the Ascension at an open hillock near the cave. The first church was erected there a few years later, sometime before 392, by a lady from the imperial family, Poimenia. Later a legend attributed the church to Saint Helena, mother of Constantine I.

4th-century church
The first complex constructed on the site of the present chapel was known as Imbomon (Greek for on the hill). It was a rotunda, open to the sky, surrounded by circular porticoes and arches. Sometime between AD 384-390, Poimenia, a wealthy and pious Roman aristocratic woman of the imperial family financed the building of a Byzantine-style church around Christ's last footprints.

7th-century church
It was subsequently rebuilt in the late 7th century. The Frankish bishop and pilgrim Arculf, in relating his pilgrimage to Jerusalem in about the year 680, described this church as a round building open to the sky, with three porticoes entered from the south. Eight lamps shone brightly at night through windows facing Jerusalem. Inside was a central edicule containing the footprints of Christ, plainly and clearly impressed in the dust, inside a railing.

12th-century church
The reconstructed church was eventually destroyed and rebuilt a second time by the Crusaders in the 12th-century. This final church was eventually destroyed by the armies of Salah ad-Din, leaving only a partially intact outer 12x12 meter octagonal wall surrounding an inner 3x3 meter shrine, also octagonal, called a martyrium or edicule. This structure still stands today,[7] in a form partially altered in the time after Saladin's 1187 conquest of Jerusalem.

Edicule (chapel)
The main structure of the chapel is from the Crusader era; the stone dome and the octagonal drum it stands on are Muslim additions. The exterior walls are decorated with arches and marble columns. The entrance is from the west, the interior of the chapel consists of a mihrab indicating the direction of Mecca in the south wall. On the floor, inside a stone frame, is a slab of stone called the Ascension Rock.

Ascension rock
The octagonal ædicule surrounds the Ascension rock, said to contain the right footprint of Christ, the section bearing the left footprint having been taken to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Middle Ages. The faithful believe that the impression was made as Jesus ascended into Heaven and is venerated as the last point on earth touched by the incarnate Christ.

Must See New Evidence that Proves the Temple was on the Temple Mount Over the Dome of the Rock!

This video provides the most comprehensive and complete evidence that proves the original temple of Solomon, and the rebuilt temples of Zerubbabel and Herod the Great, were located on the Temple Mount, exactly where the Dome of the Rock is today. Today, some are promoting the theory that the Temple was in the City of David and that the Temple Mount was a Roman Fort. We will answer each of their arguments with facts, the Bible, archeology, and eyewitness accounts.

Eye-Opening Experience visiting Western Wall and JESUS TOMB in OLD Jerusalem Israel

Join me on an eye-opening journey as we visit the Western Wall and the Tomb of Jesus in Old Jerusalem, Israel. The Western Wall, also known as the Wailing Wall, is a sacred site for Jews and a place of prayer and reflection. As we approach the wall, the energy and emotion of the place is palpable.

Next, we visit the Tomb of Jesus, also known as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. This site is believed to be the location of Jesus' crucifixion, burial, and resurrection. The atmosphere inside the church is peaceful and contemplative, and the historical significance of the place is truly awe-inspiring.

Throughout our visit, we learn about the rich history and culture of Old Jerusalem and how it plays a central role in the three major Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. This experience has truly been an eye-opening one, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe to our channel!

The Western Wall, or “Wailing Wall”, is the most religious site in the world for the Jewish people. Located in the Old City of Jerusalem, it is the western support wall of the Temple Mount. Thousands of people journey to the wall every year to visit and recite prayers. These prayers are either spoken or written down and placed in the cracks of the wall. The wall splits into two sections, one area for males and the other for females. It is one of the major highlights in any tour of the Old City.

King Herod built this wall in 20 BCE during an expansion of the Second Temple. When the Romans destroyed the temple in 70 CE, the support wall survived. For hundreds of years, people prayed in the small area of the wall that could be seen. In 1967, following the Six-Day War, Israelis dug below the ground of the wall, exposing two more levels. They also cleared the area around the wall to create the Western Wall Plaza that visitors see today.

The site is open to all people and is the location of various ceremonies, such as military inductions and bar mitzvahs. The Western Wall is free and is open all day, year-round. Women and men should dress modestly in the Western Wall Plaza. To pray at the wall, women should have their legs and shoulders covered. Men should cover their head.

My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.

Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.

In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)

Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

The Tomb of King David in Mount Zion Jerusalem #israel #jerusalem #tourguide #david #jesus #bible

The Tomb of King David is a really enigmatic place.
In this video I want to show you how it looks like today. A Jewish synagogue with a big medieval sarcophagus in it representing the burial place of David.
Although the Bible says he is buried in the City of David, ancient traditions point out this place. In addition that, there is a huge underground space, a cave, under the current building that is yet to be discovered. We know of this cave thanks to reports of Christian pilgrims of the 14th century and even an Italian explorer of the 19th century report it. Radar scans conducted by the Israeli Authority of Antiquities indicate that indeed there is an underground space that is yet to be discovered and excavated, but as for now it seems like we will need some patience before we get new answers.

Regardless of the authenticity of the place as the Tomb of David, it is a moving place, with great energy. If you visit - be sure to use the opportunity for a prayer and meditation to connect with God, with the soul of this righteous King.

God's Holy Name Appears on the Eastern Wall in Jerusalem next to the Golden Gate

Is God's Name Appearing on the Eastern Wall in Jerusalem ?
Recently I heard many people discussing that God's Holy Name is appearing on the eastern wall of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem!
So, I came to see it with my own eyes. And it is true. The Hebrew letters for the name of God appear on the wall next to the Golden Gate- In Jewish tradition, the Messiah will enter Jerusalem through this gate.

The Tetragrammaton is the four-letter Hebrew word יהוה‎ (transliterated as YHWH), the name of the national god of Israel. The four letters, read from right to left, are yodh, he, waw, and he. While there is no consensus about the structure and etymology of the name, the form Yahweh is now accepted almost universally.

The books of the Torah and the rest of the Hebrew Bible except Esther, Ecclesiastes, and (with a possible instance in verse 8:6) the Song of Songs contain this Hebrew name. Observant Jews and those who follow Talmudic Jewish traditions do not pronounce יהוה‎ nor do they read aloud proposed transcription forms such as Yahweh or Yehovah; instead they replace it with a different term, whether in addressing or referring to the God of Israel. Common substitutions in Hebrew are Adonai (My Lord) or Elohim (literally gods but treated as singular when meaning God) in prayer, or HaShem (The Name) in everyday speech.

God Always Keeps His Word: the Temple in Jerusalem

Watch the rest of Lessons from the Land: the Gospels for FREE at

Read Mark 13:1-6. Years before it would happen, Jesus prophesied that Jerusalem would be destroyed. This was God’s word. It wasn’t a happy promise. Read Luke 19:41-44 to see how Jesus wept about the trouble that Jerusalem would face. Whether happy or sad, God’s promises are true, because He is the ruler over all.

The Holyland with Itamar buk - Moses's Nephew:

The Temple Mount refers to the elevated plaza above the Western Wall in Jerusalem that was the site of both of Judaism’s ancient temples. The site is also the third holiest in Islam (after Mecca and Medina) and has been a focal point of inter-religious tension for decades. At present, the site is under Israeli sovereignty but is administered by the Muslim Waqf (religious trust). Jews and other non-Muslims are permitted to visit, but Jewish prayer is forbidden there — a provision long contested by a small number of Israeli Jews who oppose Muslim control over the site. Violence has flared at the site on numerous occasions, and Israeli forces sometimes restrict access to Muslims at times of elevated tensions.

Why is the Temple Mount holy to Jews?
The Temple Mount, known in Hebrew as Har Habayit, is traditionally said to be the site where Abraham demonstrated his devotion to God by taking his son Isaac to be sacrificed. The mount is also the site of both ancient Jewish temples. The first, built by King Solomon, was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BCE. The second was built in the sixth century BCE and stood for nearly 600 years before it was destroyed and the Jewish people exiled in 70 CE by the Roman Empire. Jews continue to mourn the destruction on the fast day of Tisha B’Av. According to Jewish tradition, a third temple will be built on the site during the messianic age.

Why is the Temple Mount holy to Muslims?
The Temple Mount is known to Muslims as the Haram al-Sharif (the Noble Sanctuary) and, according to Islamic tradition, is the site of Muhammad’s ascent to heaven in the seventh century. Today, the mount is home to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam, and the gold-topped Dome of the Rock, one of the most recognized symbols of Jerusalem.

The Temple Mount is closed to visitors on Friday and Saturday. The entrance to the site may be closed without notice for security reasons, so please be aware of this.

In order to enter, both men and women need to be dressed modestly. No weapons are allowed and visitors may not bring in any sacred Jewish objects, such as a prayer book or a talit. Visitors may be asked to show their passports so it is important to come prepared and ensure your passport is with you. While the complex is open to all, non-Muslims are NOT permitted to enter into the Dome of the Rock.

What happened at the North Gate?

We're here at the North Gate of the Temple. This is the north side of where Abraham's rock was, and out here are the north exit of the Temple Mount. And this is where Ezekiel was brought in a vision of God, he was brought between heaven and earth through space, and in a vision he was landed at the North Gate of the Temple. And God showed him a River of Life, springing from underneath this Temple, and it brought life to everything it touched and it flowed all the way through and down even to the Dead Sea where nothing grows, nothing has life. And down in the Dead Sea, it's going to bring everything to life, even down there. And it's just exciting to think what's going to happen in the future right here from the Temple area, and this River of Life flowing, bringing life to everything it touches.

Should Christians visit the Temple Mount (now Al-Aqsa Mosque) in Jerusalem? Absolutely yes.

Information about the site of the Jewish Temple and Al Aqas, Israel, itself will be provided after this announcement. Unfortunately, I have not been able to work as a tour guide because of the war.

My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered licensed tourist guide.
