Gibraltar is a tiny British territory located on the southern tip of Spain just 14 km north of Morocco.
It is dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar and is commonly known as, The Rock.
We took a drive down from Marbella Spain to see this iconic landmark and to enjoy a little slice of Britain in the far south of Europe. We started with a Gibraltar Street walk from Spain to cross the border into the British territory of Gibraltar.
Our first stop was the top of the rock observation deck that offered stunning panoramic views of Gibraltar. We not only saw Gibraltar, but we saw across straight of Gibraltar to Morocco in Africa and Spain’s Costa del Sol. It is truly spectacular. But the star attraction is definitely the rock of Gibraltar itself.
One of the star attractions of Gibraltar is the Ape’s Den where you’ll find a group of monkeys who have decided to call this place home at the cable car’s mid-station. But the Gibraltar monkeys are everywhere. Legend has it that as long as the macaques inhabit Gibraltar, the British will remain.
The monkeys were so important to the British, that they were placed under the armies protection and Winston Churchill even ordered more monkeys from Morocco when their numbers were on the decline. They can be very feisty though so make sure to keep your distance.
The Skywalk is a glass walking dangling 340 meters above sea level. It offers panoramic views of three countries and two continents and is said to be able to withstand the weight of 5 asian elephants.
It’s an amazing hike through the rock of Gibraltar and we followed the rocky trails from one attraction to another. Gibraltar was heavily fortified and there are plenty of ruins, guard stations and old lookouts to explore.

Gibraltar, British overseas territory occupying a narrow peninsula of Spain’s southern Mediterranean coast, just northeast of the Strait of Gibraltar, on the east side of the Bay of Gibraltar (Bay of Algeciras), and directly south of the Spanish city of La Línea. It is 3 miles (5 km) long and 0.75 mile (1.2 km) wide and is connected to Spain by a low, sandy isthmus that is 1 mile (1.6 km) long.
Gibraltar is a heavily fortified British air and naval base that guards the Strait of Gibraltar, which is the only entrance to the Mediterranean Sea from the Atlantic Ocean.
The Trafalgar Cemetery occupies a small area of land just to the south of the city walls, in what had been a defensive ditch during the period of Spanish rule of Gibraltar. Although it is named for the Battle of Trafalgar of 21 October 1805, only two victims of the battle are buried there. The remainder of the interments are mostly of those killed in other sea battles or casualties of the yellow fever epidemics that swept Gibraltar between 1804 and 1814.
The Gibraltar Botanic Gardens or La Alameda Gardens are a botanical garden in Gibraltar, spanning around 6 hectares. The plants of the Alameda Gardens are a combination of native species and others brought in from abroad.

GIBRALTAR | The Best Day Trip From Malaga, Spain
Gibraltar is a British territory, a 2 hour drive from Malaga, Spain. Gibraltar is famous for its military forts hidden within the Rock of Gibraltar, a nearly 1,400 ft tall limestone ridge jutting up from the Mediterranean sea. After going through border control and getting our passports stamped, we ate a full english breakfast and hiked to the top of The Rock. Although we took the road up to the top, we hiked down the Mediterranean steps with some of the sketchiest stairs we have ever seen.

Best Things To Do In Gibraltar For A Weekend Away
Dominated by The Rock Gibraltar has a surprising amount to see and do. Join our guide for the BEST things to do in Gibraltar on a weekend break.
We visit the Marina with a back drop of luxury apartments and yachts. Check out the history and architecture in the main city. Spend the night at the famous Rock Hotel, frequented by Royalty, politicians and famous faces. Hop on a bus to Europa point to catch a glimpse of North Africa. Take the 6 minute ride up to the top of the Rock, to be welcomed by the barbary macaque monkeys, before climbing down inside St Michael's Cave for eerie views of the stunning stalagmites. Finally we end our day walking over the 71 m high suspension bridge with great views of Gibraltar Bay.

About Gibraltar: Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. It has an area of 6.7 km2 (2.6 sq mi) and is bordered to the north by Spain. The landscape is dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar at the foot of which is a densely populated town area, home to over 32,000 people, primarily Gibraltarians. In 1704, Anglo-Dutch forces captured Gibraltar from Spain during the War of the Spanish Succession on behalf of the Habsburg claim to the Spanish throne. The territory was ceded to Great Britain in perpetuity under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. Gibraltarians rejected proposals for Spanish sovereignty in a 1967 referendum and, in a 2002 referendum, the idea of shared sovereignty was also rejected. Gibraltar has long been one of the most interesting places in Europe for me. A piece of Great Britain located right in Spain. Opinions about Gibraltar on the Internet were varied, and I knew that the subjective assessment would be the most interesting for me. This post is also my subjective perspective, practical information and attractions, some tips on how to visit and what to see in Gibraltar.
Gibraltar is a British overseas territory. After numerous battles in 1713, Gibraltar belongs to Great Britain. About 30,000 people live here and it is densely populated, considering that it is located on less than 7 square kilometers. The currency in circulation is the Gibraltar pound, but you can pay them only in Gibraltar, they are not recognized in Great Britain. You will pay here in pounds and euros (or simply by card), but in some places the conversion rate is quite unfavorable.

Ep 75 Sightseeing in Gibraltar v1 4K
In this episode we will mostly do sightseeing in Gibraltar we of cause see the Monkeys but also caves and tunnels but we will also do some boatwork.
We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life experience the places we visit. We have sailed the Atlantic coast of Europe from Sweden to the Mediterranean Sea via Madeira and the Azores.
Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy and Soling sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders in 2017. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans.

We start our walking tour in John Mackintosh Square, site of Gibraltar Town Hall, The Gibraltar Parliament building and the Tourist Information Office.
We then head down Irish Town, once the main commercial centre of Gibraltar and now site of many bars, restaurants and interesting architecture. We cut through Parliament Lane to reach Main Street, which we follow right into Casements Square. We the pass through Grand Casements Gates and cross the street to explore Ocean Village - the famous marina and site of many bars, restaurants and coffee shops - many with great views over the water.
