A room with a view: Lion-tailed Macaques explore the world within!
In perfect harmony, like rhythmic gymnasts, a pair of Lion-tailed Macaque's in India's Kerala state inspect the inside of a house, having made their way into a township on the sly!
The Lion-tailed Macaque (Macaca silenus), or the Wanderoo, is an Old World monkey endemic to the Western Ghats of South India. The hair of the lion-tailed macaque is black. Its outstanding characteristic is the silver-white mane which surrounds the head from the cheeks down to its chin, which gives this monkey its German name Bartaffe - beard ape. The hairless face is black in colour. With a head-body length of 42 to 61 cm and a weight of 2 to 10 kg, it ranks among the smaller macaques. The tail is medium in length, about 25 cm, and has a black tuft at the end, similar to a lion's tail. The male's tail-tuft is more developed than that of the female.
The lion-tailed macaque is a diurnal rainforest dweller. It is a good climber and spends a majority of its life in the upper canopy of tropical moist evergreen forests. Unlike other macaques, it avoids humans. In group behavior, it is much like other macaques; it lives in hierarchical groups of usually 10 to 20 animals, which consist of few males and many females. It is a territorial animal, defending its area first with loud cries towards the invading troops. If this proves fruitless, it brawls aggressively.
From 1977 to 1980, public concern about the endangered status of lion-tailed macaque became the focal point of Save Silent Valley, India's fiercest environmental debate of the decade. From 1993 to 1996, 14 troops were observed in Silent Valley National Park, Kerala, one of the most undisturbed viable habitats left for them.
The Western Ghats are home to thousands of animal species including at least 325 globally threatened species. Many are endemic species, especially in the amphibian and reptilian classes. Thirty two threatened species of mammals live in the Western Ghats. Of the 16 endemic mammals, 13 are threatened.

Family Hike: Top of the Rock of Gibraltar & Monkey Business Spain & Portugal Day 2 St Michaels Cave
Day 2! The #1 goal of this trip was to visit the Rock of Gibraltar. We didn't know what to expect but that's why we picked this location for a family vacation. I must say it was amazing!
We drove in from Marbella Spain and parked just outside Gibraltar to walk in (highly recommended!) We almost got scammed by someone trying to make us pay as we enter but don't do that...and you'll see signs saying that only inside payments are accepted, so it's a common occurrence. We walked through customs and the main road into town is also the airport, crazy! We got some breakfast and then hiked and geocached around before heading up!
Getting up to the start is pretty tricky actually but once you enter the paid part of the rock it's simple! We then saw tons of monkeys, a handful are aggressive, we each had moments with at least one monkey (yes they can open backpacks, so put backpacks on the front) and one wanted my daughter apparently, not letting go of her hair until I got involved. But we made it up! Amazing views of Spain and Africa and the Strait! Then St Michaels Cave is a can't miss as is the Windsor Suspension Bridge.
Finished with some souvenirs and some proper fish and chips (pretty average, Wisconsin does it better!)

The rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta), also called the rhesus monkey, is one of the best-known species of Old World monkeys. It is listed as Least Concern in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in view of its wide distribution, presumed large population, and its tolerance of a broad range of habitats. Native to South, Central and Southeast Asia, troops of Macaca mulatta inhabit a great variety of habitats from grasslands to arid and forested areas, but also close to human settlements.
The rhesus macaque is brown or grey in color and has a pink face, which is bereft of fur. Its tail is of medium length and averages between 20.7 and 22.9 cm (8.1 and 9.0 in). Adult males measure approximately 53 cm (21 in) on average and weigh about 7.7 kg (17 lb). Females are smaller, averaging 47 cm (19 in) in length and 5.3 kg (12 lb) in weight. Rhesus macaques have on average 50 vertebrae. Their intermembral index (ratio of arms to legs) is 89%. They have dorsal scapulae and a wide rib cage.
The rhesus macaque has 32 teeth with a dental formula of 2.1.2.3/2.1.2.3 and bilophodont molars. The upper molars have four cusps: paracone, metacone, protocone and hypocone. The lower molars also have four cusps: metaconid, protoconid, hypoconid and entoconid.

DAY TRIP TO GIBRALTAR FROM MARBELLA | Rock of Gibraltar, Cable car and Macaques (Travel Vlog Part 7)
Today is a very exciting day as it has been at the top of our bucket list! We did a day trip from where we were staying in Marbella Spain to Gibraltar! We took a bus from the Marbella bus station to the La Linea bus station and then walked across the border into Gibraltar (it was super easy!) We then walked to the cable car and took it up the rock as it was way too hot to try and walk the whole way up. We walked all through the nature reserve and loved seeing all the macaque monkeys! It was worth the wait to finally make it to Gibraltar.

Our CAMPER VAN called Romany is a 2019 FORD TRANSIT VAN that is our TINY HOME ON WHEELS.
We have also bought a 57ft CANAL BOAT which we are currently converting and will be going between the VAN and the BOAT to live life to the fullest and bring you enjoyable CREATIVE VIDEO CONTENT.

Macaque eating hungrily

The macaques constitute a genus (Macaca) of Old World monkeys of the subfamily Cercopithecinae.
Aside from humans (genus Homo), the macaques are the most widespread primate genus, ranging from Japan to Afghanistan and, in the case of the barbary macaque (Macaca sylvanus), to North Africa and Southern Europe. Twenty-two macaque species are currently recognized, including some of the monkeys best known to non-zoologists, such as the rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta), and the barbary macaque, a colony of which lives on the Rock of Gibraltar. Although several species lack tails and their common names therefore refer to them as apes, these are true monkeys, with no greater relationship to the true apes than any other Old World monkeys.
In some species, skin folds join the second through fifth toes, almost reaching the first metatarsal joint.

THE TRUTH ABOUT KELINKGKING BEACH | WHAT NOBODY TELLS YOU ABOUT KELINGKING
So, you are ready to discover Bali’s most iconic beach; Kelingking. But are you up for it?
The beautiful, dinosaur shaped, cliff view is impressive. And that’s what most people do, make it through the difficult road all the way to the cliff and take a nice picture for Instagram while enjoying the view.
But if you want to make it to the beach and enjoy the water, there is a long way down; adventure awaits.
Between 40 and 45 minutes of a very steep and very dangerous, narrow trek take you between the jungle (and monkeys) to the beach.
This trek has been made by locals with whatever they could find for free; such as old wood, bamboo and rocks. So, nothing really guarantees you it will hold.
Apart from being very dangerous, it is also very tiring. The way is extremely steep, so this trek is more like and 8a when it comes to climbing. A very easy climb, but climb!! It is almost vertical and you have no rope or nothing to secure you.
After all, once you make it all the way to the bottom, if you are able to pass through the monkeys with all your belongings and hair in place, a small jump awaits. It is probably like 2 meters.
But once you see the beach, it will all have been worth it. Sometimes there are big waves and it is better not to swim, although you can enjoy the shore and riptide. And sometimes the water is perfect for a swim.
The water’s colour has no comparison, nor the temperature. It is so refreshing, but not cold. And all of this, you will have it for, almost, yourself. There will be between 7 – 12 people, but no more. Most people stay on the top or go back after 20 minutes.
There is a small Warung where you can buy and drinks and they have shade, sun beds and tables too.
