Gibraltar, is a British Overseas Territory and city located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula.
It has an area of 6.7 km2 (2.6 sq mi) and is bordered to the north by Spain. The landscape is dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar, at the foot of which is a densely populated town area, home to over 32,000 people, primarily Gibraltarians.
In 1704, Anglo-Dutch forces captured Gibraltar from Spain during the War of the Spanish Succession. The territory was ceded to Great Britain in perpetuity under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. It became an important base for the Royal Navy, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars and World War II, as it controlled the narrow entrance and exit to the Mediterranean Sea, the Strait of Gibraltar, which is only 14.3 km (8.9 mi) wide.
This choke point remains strategically important, with half the world's seaborne trade passing through it.
Gibraltar's economy is based largely on tourism, online gambling, financial services, and bunkering.

The Strait of Gibraltar is located at the southernmost tip of Spain's Iberian Peninsula and is under British jurisdiction. It is the busiest strait in the world, with up to 100,000 ships passing through it every year.
Gibraltar is also a tourist destination, and one of its most famous attractions is the Rock of Gibraltar.
The Rock of Gibraltar is 426 meters high. Standing on the top of the rock, you can overlook the Strait of Gibraltar, as well as neighboring Spain and Morocco. Most of the top of the rock is a nature reserve, home to 250 carefree Gibraltar macaques. Take a quiet walk through the rock to reach St. Michael's Grotto. This is a huge stalactite cave, and the gorgeous lights make it even more charming.

We start our tour at the city of ¨La Línea de la Concepción ¨ (south of Cádiz province, Andalucía, España) and in minutes we crossed the border on foot. We begin our tour in the curious territory of Gibraltar (UK) from its airport to the top of The Rock where we will see the famous monkeys, a cave of millions of years where Neanderthals lived, the famous tunnels of the World War II, wonderful views of the Strait of Gibraltar and Africa, as well as an old Moorish castle. Gibraltar is an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom. This means it shares the British Queen and has the protection of the British Armed Forces. It is in southwest Europe on the Mediterranean Sea. About 32,000 people live there. They are called Gibraltarians.
Gibraltar has always been important as a military base because this is where the Mediterranean Sea narrows to only 14 kilometres (9 miles) at the Strait of Gibraltar. This meant that whichever country controlled Gibraltar could see all ships that came into the Mediterranean Sea.
Gibraltar is most famous for The Rock of Gibraltar, a 426 meter high limestone rock rising out of the sea. The rock can be seen for many miles. It is home to the Barbary Apes, a type of tail-less macaque which are the only wild monkeys in Europe.

On Spain's southern coast is the British Overseas Territory and headland of Gibraltar. The Rock of Gibraltar, a 426-meter-high limestone ridge, dominates the area. The outpost was first inhabited by Moors in the Middle Ages and afterwards ruled by Spain before being given to the British in 1713. The ruins of a Moorish castle from the fourteenth century and the WWII-expanded Great Siege Tunnels from the eighteenth century are among the layers of defences.

We are in Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. This interesting place is covering an area of 6.7 km2. Gibraltar is bordered to the north by Spain and is known for the Rock (of Gibraltar), beneath which lies a densely populated town area. The town is home to around 32,688 people according to a 2022 estimate.
The territory was established as a watchtower by the Almohads in 1160 and changed hands several times during the Middle Ages. It was captured by Anglo-Dutch forces in 1704 during the War of the Spanish Succession and later ceded to Great Britain in 1713 under the Treaty of Utrecht.
During its history Gibraltar served as an important base for the Royal Navy, controlling the strategic Strait of Gibraltar. The sovereignty of Gibraltar remains a issue in Anglo-Spanish relations, despite the residents' clear preference to remain under British control with referendums held in 1967 and 2002.
On this walk we are starting at the South Bastion. From there we walk northward along Main Street, exploring several side streets to get a feel beyond the main shopping street. We also have a look around the Ocean Village and marina.
One interesting feature of Gibraltar is the airport, where people walk across the landing area on their way to the border with Spain. That's what we do on our final stretch of this walk before we finish our tour near the border control.

The Office of the Governor supports the Governor and Commander-in-Chief in carrying out his constitutional role and duties as His Majesty's Representative in Gibraltar. The Governor has special responsibilities for the conduct in Gibraltar of: external affairs. Gibraltar is most famous for The Rock of #Gibraltar, a 426 meter high limestone rock rising out of the sea. The rock can be seen for many miles. It is home to the Barbary Apes, a type of tail-less macaque which are the only wild monkeys in Europe.
There is an excellent viewing point enabling ships passing through the Straits of Gibraltar to be seen. #Morocco is visible and on a clear day one can even see houses there.
Gibraltar is not the most expensive place to visit, but it is also not the cheapest. The first thing to note is that Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory and has prices more comparable to the British rather than their Spanish neighbour’s.
Absolutely, Gibraltar is worth visiting. It's known for its breathtaking beaches, unique blend of British and Spanish cultures, and interesting history. The Rock of Gibraltar is a must-visit, offering stunning views from the summit. Plus there are a lot of fun things to do at night in Gibraltar.
The sole official language of Gibraltar, a British overseas territory, is English, which is used by the Government and in schools. Most locals are bilingual, also speaking Spanish, because of Gibraltar's proximity to #Spain.

The Trafalgar Cemetery occupies a small area of land just to the south of the city walls, in what had been a defensive ditch during the period of Spanish rule of Gibraltar. Although it is named for the Battle of Trafalgar of 21 October 1805, only two victims of the battle are buried there.
