We recently got back from our 3rd trip to the Cook Islands, spending most of our time in Rarotonga (along with a few days in Aitutaki as well) and met a bunch of people who'd found our last Raro videos and had used them as a bit of a guide for their holiday. Welcome back to the Cook Islands and our 5th episode of 7 in this series of travel vlogs. We’ve tackled Aitutaki for the most part so far, so it’s time for Rarotonga and hunting out some luxury accommodation RIGHT on Muri Beach, the award-winning Te Vakaroa villas.
As we mentioned above, the cool thing about Rarotonga is how the accommodation mix has changed in recent years. There’s now some great holiday homes (some with pools even), cheaper back packing options, villas like this one and less expensive, and full blown family resort styles too. There’s an option for everyone. But if you’re wanting luxury, beach front living and proximity to walk and explore check out Te Vakaroa Villas. We actually spotted these villas last time we were in Rarotonga and made a note to check them out next time, safe to say it was worth looking into!

Welcome back to the Cook Islands, it's our 6th vlog in this series and only one more to go from Rarotonga - man, what a holiday it's been! There's plenty of things to do in Rarotonga, but understandably a lot of the activities, tours and things to do end up being the same just recycled. Like we mention in the video, that's to be expected and we love laxxing in amazing accommodation, exploring the island, snorkelling, visiting the night markets, tasting the food and touring the lagoon — BUT there is so much more!
So for this trip back to Rarotonga we really wanted to pick a few unique things to do, finding some activities that may not be on everyones to do list or at the top of the tours to book. What we found were 3 epic adventures we wanted to share.

The BEST Beach + Lagoon of Rarotonga Cook Islands is Muri Beach!
Rarotonga in the Cook Islands has quite a few different beaches and areas for such a small island. We think Muri Beach is the best place to be, whether on the water or at a restaurant or bar. If you're looking for travel tips or advice for Rarotonga, all you need to know is Muri Beach!
We spent a good amount of time on Rarotonga, just looking for things to do and checking out the different experiences. We found that Muri Beach offered Lagoon cruises, small islands to visit, and had the best nightlife scene by far (don't hesitate to see the fire dancers).
While we think Aitutaki is the best island to check out in the Cook Islands, Rarotonga is unbelievably beautiful and special in its own way, not to mention pretty sparse when it comes to tourists.

Rarotonga is the most chilled place we've ever been. Full stop. Rarotonga is the largest island of the Cook Islands and where we'll be spending the next week exploring!
First step was jumping on our Jetstar flight to Rarotonga from Auckland, arriving at the airport it was clear how special this trip was going to be. The people of Rarotonga are so friendly, warm, personable and welcoming — even so late in the evening!
Special thanks to Jetstar for helping us get to Rarotonga and show off this beautiful place!
Theres lots of Rarotonga hotels and resorts, but we knew Muri beach was a spot we wanted to be close to. Then we found Pacific Resort Rarotonga and instantly knew it would be a winner! Our flight arrived while it was already dark though, so we weren't initially able to see how beautiful the hotel resort setup was until the next day... as you would have seen, we were pretty bloody happy with it!
Pacific Resort Rarotonga was kind enough to allow us to film their resort and take us out on a lagoon tour while hosting us, if you're looking at a trip to Rarotonga definitely check it out, it's the perfect spot on Muri Beach —

Driving Around Rarotonga, 60 Minute Loop | Cook Islands
Welcome back to the Cook Islands! It's not exactly a sunny day in Rarotonga so in this vlog we decided it's time to find a car rental, get some wheels and explore the beautiful island of Rarotonga...⬇ More Below ✈ Our 220 page guide on how to travel non-stop —
We're excited to get out and see more of the island today, the absolute best way to see Rarotonga is with a car or scooter hire. It's a shame about the scooter hire rules in one sense, but understandably they've been tightened up based on a need following accidents... anyway, the car rental process was super straight forward and before we knew it we were off driving in our tiny car.
Driving in Rarotonga is kind of funny, it's definitely full blown island mode there. In a lot of places the limit is 30kph, in others it goes up to 50kph but for the most part everyone just cruises at 30ish. The island has the most incredibly relaxed feel to it, you'd expect that when you then get in a car or drive a scooter that it feels a bit more chaotic, or they'd be some traffic — nope! The Cook Islands are just as chill inside your car as they are on your sun lounger down at Muri Beach.
Anyway, enjoy another day exploring this beautiful paradise in the Cook Islands ❤️Hope you've got sun and a smile where ever you are.

The Cook Islands is known for it's tropical weather, so we had a few worries our trip to Rarotonga might get hit with some rain... we just didn't expect it pretty much every single day! There's so many activities and things to do in Rarotonga, but how many to do in the rain on a beautiful island? Luckily we found Raro Buggy Tours, it turned out to be one of our favourite days on this whole vacation.
Moana Sands has a few hotels in Rarotonga — yesterday we moved to Moana Sands Lagoon Resort, an adults only spot right on the beach front. This is a lot quieter, really modern, well located, nice rooms and great views as well! It's nice to mix things up with the accommodation, it almost feels like another holiday on our holiday in a way. Moana Sands Lagoon Resort is where we'll be staying until we leave, which is sadly soon.
