Guinea Bissau || Why You Should Visit It Right Now

In this video, we are going to give you 5 reasons why you should visit Guinea Bissau Right Now.

Many people confuse Guinea Bissau, that small country on the west coast of Africa, with others like Guinea Conakry, Equatorial Guinea, or New Guinea.

Guinea Bissau, which is listed 7th among the 15 least visited countries on earth, is one of the most amazing countries I have ever visited. This is a place where you can still experience the true and unspoiled Africa, far from large hotels and tourist resorts and among the local population.

Guinea Bissau is a small developing country on the West Africa coast, between Senegal and Guinea Conakry, and was until 1973 a Portuguese colony.

Guinea Bissau, unlike the frequent news associated with political instability, which gives it a negative image, is a safe country, with friendly and welcoming people. Anyway, as in any place, you should be careful to go to certain more isolated places, especially at night.

So, Why should you visit Guinea Bissau?

00:00 **Intro**
01:03 **Reason 1: Just because!**
02:30 **Reason 2: Guinea Bissau has a great archipelago off the coast.**
04:05 **Reason 3. Tourism equals money equals development.**
05:29 **Reason 4. The People and the food**
07:35 **Reason 5. Because it is an undeveloped and unspoiled country.**

In this video, we are going to give you 5 reasons why you should visit Guinea Bissau as soon as possible.

Guinea-Bissau: Natural Beauty Along the Atlantic

Guinea-Bissau, a small but culturally rich nation nestled on the West African coast, unfolds a captivating tale that interweaves its history, geography, people, fascinating facts, and economic journey. The country’s rich history stretches back through centuries, from ancient African kingdoms to colonial rule and a long-fought battle for independence. Its past is marked by resistance, resilience, and a quest for self-determination. The nation's geography offers a diverse and intriguing landscape, from its coastline along the Atlantic Ocean to its lush forests, rivers, and savannas. Guinea-Bissau's geography not only shapes its natural beauty but also influences the lives of its people. Please join us in this comprehensive journey as we delve deep into its historical narrative and traverse its diverse terrains.

Looking at Guinea-Bissau Geographically
Guinea-Bissau, a country in West Africa, offers captivating geographical features that reflect its unique character. Situated along the Atlantic Ocean, this nation boasts a diverse landscape that spans from the coastline to inland plateaus and lush forests. As we delve into Guinea-Bissau's geography, we uncover a land of remarkable diversity and natural beauty. The country covers an area of about 13,948 square miles with a population of a little over 2 million, making it one of the smallest West African nations. Positioned on the western bulge of the African continent, Guinea-Bissau shares its borders with Senegal to the north and Guinea to the south and east. To the west for about 20 miles, it meets the expansive waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
Guinea-Bissau's coastline is characterized by mangroves, estuaries, and sandy shores. This coastal region is not only a source of natural beauty but also vital for the nation's fishing industry, providing sustenance and livelihoods for coastal communities in the country. As we move inland, the landscape transforms into a mix of plateaus, savannas, and dense forests. The Fouta Djallon Plateau, an extension of the larger Fouta Djallon highlands in the region, dominates the central part of the country. This elevated plateau features lush valleys, cascading waterfalls, and fertile plateaus, making it a geographical highlight.
Guinea-Bissau is crisscrossed by several rivers and waterways, including the Geba, Corubal, and Cacheu rivers. The country's low-lying coastal plains are characterized by estuaries and tidal flats, forming a network of water bodies that are essential for transportation, agriculture, and the unique ecosystems they support. The southern part of Guinea-Bissau is covered by dense rainforests, home to an incredible diversity of flora and fauna. These forests play a crucial role in maintaining the nation's ecological balance and preserving its rich biodiversity.
Guinea-Bissau experiences a tropical monsoon climate, with distinct wet and dry seasons. The wet season typically runs from June to October, bringing heavy rainfall and high humidity. In contrast, the dry season, from November to May, is characterized by drier and more comfortable conditions.

Historical Background of Guinea-Bissau
The region that is now Guinea-Bissau has a rich history dating back centuries. It was home to various ethnic groups and kingdoms, including the Balanta, Fula, and Mandinka. One of the notable early empires in the area was the Kaabu Empire, which thrived from the 14th to the 19th century. The Kaabu Empire played a pivotal role in shaping the region's history and culture, leaving a permanent mark on its people and general way of life.
Guinea-Bissau's coastal regions became a focal point for European explorers and traders during the Age of Exploration. Portuguese explorers arrived in the late 15th century, seeking to establish trade routes and exploit the region's resources. The Portuguese influence left a lasting impact on the area, including the introduction of Christianity and the Portuguese language. Guinea-Bissau fell under Portuguese colonial rule in the late 19th century. It was part of Portuguese Guinea, along with Cape Verde. During this period, the Portuguese extracted significant resources, including cashews and groundnuts, from the region.

MAP OF GUINEA-BISSAU

greetings my friends. this is a map of Guinea Bissau. Guinea-Bissau is bordered by Senegal to the north and Guinea to the south and east, with the Atlantic Ocean to its west.

At 36,125 square kilometres , the country is larger in size than Taiwan or Belgium. The highest point is Monte Torin with an elevation of 262 metres. Its terrain is mostly low coastal plains with swamps of the Guinean mangroves rising to the Guinean forest-savanna mosaic in the east. Its monsoon-like rainy season alternates with periods of hot, dry harmattan winds blowing from the Sahara. The Bijagos Archipelago lies off of the mainland. The country is also home to two ecoregions: Guinean forest-savanna mosaic and Guinean mangroves.
Guinea-Bissau is warm all year round with mild temperature fluctuations; it averages 26.3 °C. The average rainfall for Bissau is 2,024 millimetres , although this is almost entirely accounted for during the rainy season which falls between June and September/October. From December through April, the country experiences drought. also, Guinea-Bissau is divided into eight regions and one autonomous sector. These, in turn, are subdivided into 37 Sectors. The regions are:

Bafatá.
Biombo.

GUINEA-BISSAU: Visas in Bissau and political rallies // EPS 7.

What do you think about when you hear the name of the country Guinea-Bissau? I have to admit that I didn't know much about Guinea-Bissau before I visited. But that was about to change:
After Gambia we drove into Senegal again and from there took the closest border to Guinea-Bissau. Our first destination: The capital Bissau to get the visa for Cote D'Ivoire that was denied to us in Dakar.

On our ride through Guinea-Bissau we realized quickly that it's one of the most laid back countries we visited so far - and we were invited to join the rallies of the two competing parties for the presidential election in the town Gabú (there was not much a choice to avoid this though, all places that sold food were as well packed with the people taking part in the rallies).

Join me for the journey through Guinea-Bissau and get to know this country that is one of the least traveled in the world.

//NOTE: videos were recorded before I had a Youtube Channel - initially used for my Instagram stories. That's the reason for the close ups of my face - they were recorded vertically. I still decided to use them - that's the authentic footage I have and I can't change that anymore. Remember: I just started out with filming and cutting - its a learning curve and far from perfect! If you mind seeing my nose hair every now and then, I can highly recommend you to skip this part of the journey and join again when I will publish my next trips after the country Benin with hopefully improved footage!

// Welcome to the journey! I am Lea, a journalist and author and I want to take you with me on a motorcycle overloading adventure to all the wild and beautiful places in the world!

You Won't Believe This In Guinea Bissau ????????. #GuineaBissau Africa Ep. 7

Guinea-Bissau is a tropical country on West Africa’s Atlantic coast that’s known for national parks and wildlife. The forested, sparsely populated Bijagós archipelago is a protected biosphere reserve. Its main island, Bubaque, forms part of the Orango Islands National Park, a habitat for saltwater hippos. On the mainland, the capital, Bissau, is a port with Portuguese colonial buildings in its old city center.

The distance from Jegue border to Bissau is about 130km. It takes about 3 and half hours drive due to the poor state of the roads. Which is surprising because along the way there's about 5police stops where you will have to pay for the road at every stop. It's also advisable to have a 4 wheel drive especially during rainy season.

So let's talk a little bit about Guinea Bissau. Did you know that Guinea Bissau official language is Portuguese but is spoken by only about 11% of the population. The local dialect is creole
2. The main form of foreign exchange is Cashew nuts. Some people call it the cashew coast of Africa
3. 80% of the population is employed in Agriculture with cashewnuts be in my the major two ethnic groups being Fulani being at 28% and balanta at 23%,

Viaje a Guinea Bissau. La esencia del África auténtica

Un Viaje a Guinea Bissau para disfrutar de la aventura de un país poco frecuentado por el turismo y donde puedes vivir la esencia de lo más auténtico de África.
Más información en:

The history of Guinea-Bissau. Guinea-Bissau documentary. World Of Knowledge

Guinea-Bissau , officially the Republic of Guinea-Bissau , is a country in West Africa that covers 36,125 square kilometres with an estimated population of 1,874,303.

It borders Senegal to the north and Guinea to the south-east

Guinea-Bissau was once part of the kingdom of Kaabu, as well as part of the Mali Empire.

Parts of this kingdom persisted until the 18th century, while a few others were under some rule by the Portuguese Empire since the 16th century.

In the 19th century, it was colonised as Portuguese Guinea.

Upon independence, declared in 1973 and recognised in 1974, the name of its capital, Bissau, was added to the country's name to prevent confusion with Guinea .

Guinea-Bissau has a history of political instability since independence, and only one elected president has successfully served a full five-year term.

The current president is Umaro Sissoco Embaló, who was elected on 29 December 2019

Only about 2% of the population speaks Portuguese, the official language, as a first language, and 33% speak it as a second language.

However, Creole is the national language and also considered the language of unity.

According to a 2012 study, 54% of the population speak Creole as a first language and about 40% speak it as a second language.

The remainder speak a variety of native African languages.
