The GAP Between Rich & Poor in Lima (Peru)

LIMA, PERU.

Join us as we visit the diverse neighborhoods of Lima, check out a local market, and try some traditional Peruvian food featured in Street Food Latin America.

From our home base in the affluent Miraflores neighborhood, we first head south to Villa El Salvador, a shantytown on the outskirts of Lima — and one of the city’s poorest districts. It is home to around 400,000 people.

From there, we head to Chorillo, an exclusive, gated beach community right next to Villa El Salvador.

Finally, we check out Surquillo Market #2 to try Huerta Chinen, the famous restaurant featured in Street Food Latin America.

Why I Really Don't Like This Country ????????

While I constantly try to find the positives in every place I visit, there are a few nations that I just simply didn't enjoy.

The country of BRUNEI is one of them.

I went to Brunei back in 2014, three years before I made videos, but my negative experiences in the country have stuck in my mind ever since. That, combined with its absurd human rights laws such as stoning to death LGBT members, I felt like this video needed to be shared with the world.

Have you ever visited any countries that you didn't enjoy? Please share below, I'm curious to know.

Peru Travel Costs

This has weird food in it – and no pie, even though today was pi-day :(

Take the Peruvian Sol, PEN, divide it by 3 and you get a good approximation for what things cost in US dollars. Today also happens to be pi day March 14 - 3.14...so I guess it's fitting to say that's a good approximation not just for the circumference/diameter ratio, but also to the USD/PEN conversion ;)

Okay, I'll stop being a math nerd haha! Here's the travel costs Incurred today traveling from the capital city of Lima to Ica. A smaller city of about 250,000 people – same size as the city I grew up in. So hey, I already feel right at home here!

It's a bit cheaper in Peru, compared to the USA. I mean, I went one step fancier and got the $6 hostel as you can see ;) That's probably one of the biggiest ways to save money traveling – you don't have to stay in luxury resorts!

Today, it cost me less than $30 ($35 if you include tomorrow's lodging) including food and transportation. And half of that was for transportation. Of course you will not be taking 5-hour bus rides every day, so traveling can be even cheaper than $30/day.

Now what's crazy to me is that you can get a hostel for $6 in Peru, which includes breakfast with coffee and WiFi. I mention those two things specifically because back is the USA, you may pay $3 for a coffee at a café just so you can have yoru caffeine and WiFi to work...no breakfast...no bed to sleep in. I definitely have done that countless times :P

...if only I had saved up that money and put it towards more stays in Ica instead...

but alas, I did not...so, that's all for now!
