Introducing Croatia

Start exploring Croatia with Lonely Planet’s video guide to getting around, when to go and the top things to do while you're there.

Places To See in Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina | Cultural Trip - Pleternica and Tomislavgrad

In 2018 I was invited to present a travel film about places to see in Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina. We visit the two towns of Pleternica and Tomislavgrad following the cultural route of Becharac and ganga which are traditional forms of singing protected by UNESCO.
Ther is horse riding, motorbike scrambling, boating, caving and lot s of food and drink!

Projekt prekogranične suradnje pod nazivom „Kulturna ruta bećarca i gange“, kojeg su uspješno prijavili Grad Pleternica (RH) kao nositelj projekta i Općina Tomislavgrad (BiH) kao partner
u projektu.
suradnja Hrvatska-Bosna i Hercegovina –Crna Gora 2014.-2020.
The common challenge is to establish a permanent, high-quality tourism destination management based on the valorization of cultural heritage. The project approach in addressing the common challenges is the development of cultural heritage based on Becharac and Ganga – the forms of folk songs protected by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. Both towns have protected the names Becharac Museum in Pleternica and Ganga Museum in Tomislavgrad as intellectual property (label) and as such are unique in CRO and BiH. This excellent foundation for the restoration and preservation of cultural and historical heritage is also an ideal opportunity to develop cross-border tourism and cultural events.
The project is funded by Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme
Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina-Montenegro 2014.-2020.

Zagreb, capital of Croatia

Welcome to Zagreb, the capital city of the Republic of Croatia. Zagreb is an old Central European city. For centuries it has been a focal point of culture and science, and now of commerce and industry as well. It lies on the intersection of important routes between the Adriatic coast and Central Europe.
When the Croatian people achieved their independence in 1991, Zagreb became a capital - a political and administrative centre for the Republic of Croatia. Zagreb is also the hub of the business, academic, cultural, artistic and sporting worlds in Croatia. Many famed scientists, artists and athletes come from the city, or work in it. Zagreb can offer its visitors the Baroque atmosphere of the Upper Town, picturesque open-air markets, diverse shopping facili ties, an abundant selection of crafts and a choice vernacular cuisine. Zagreb is a city of green parks and walks, with many places to visit in the beautiful surroundings. The city will enter into the third millennium with a population of one million. In spite of the rapid development of the economy and transportation, it has retained its charm, and a relaxed feeling that makes it a genuinely human city.

SPLIT FIRST IMPRESSIONS | Zagreb To Split Bus | Croatia Travel Vlog

Arriving in Split, Croatia! Today we travel from Zagreb To Split on a bus and see more of Croatia and it's coast line in this vlog.. ⬇ Click 'Show More' ⬇ Learn to travel full-time:

Welcome to Split! We've heard so much about this little coastal town in Croatia that we knew we'd have to travel here soon. Fortunately grabbing a bus or train is easy via so we had a cheap and easy bus ride!

Split is definitely a beautiful place, the old streets have a lot of charm but it's got that coastal Croatian feel that you just can't avoid! Hopefully that comes across in this travel vlog anyway, it was Sep 2018 we visited.

Travel to Split seems really straight forward because of it's popularity and there is always a bus or boat coming and going! Getting in and out of the city is definitely straight forward and for the most part our journey from Zagreb To Split was painless.

CRAZY DUBROVNIK STORIES | Old City Walking Tour | Sail Croatia Day 3 of 8

Dubrovnik has some crazy history so today we made our way from the port and took a walking tour of the old city. Sail Croatia... ⬇ Click 'Show More' ⬇

A walking tour of Dubrovnik seemed like the best way to learn about the old town, the city history, the walls and castle development and just how the old town came to be. We weren't wrong. Beyond the Game of Thrones fame, Dubrovnik has an incredible past.

History ranging from attacks, bombs, fires and more have shaped the city of Dubrovnik to where it is today. This tour was only an hour long and gave us so much insight into Croatia as a whole, while also providing a great tour of the Dubrovnik town inside the walls as well.

This is day 3 of our Sail Croatia Explorer Cruise and we LOVE IT! We were docked in the Dubrovnik Port, well actually it's Port Gruz, and made our way in to the city for one of the optional excursions provided by Sail Croatia.

Sail Croatia is known for it's Navigator cruise, it's more tailored towards the party vibe and younger crowds. We were so pleased to hear they also offer multiple other cruises and the Explorer cruise was right up our alley! Check out the Sail Croatia Explorer Cruise here:

Croatia vs Serbia- Which Country Is Better?

Which Country Is Better?
Serbia (Srbija) or Croatia (Hrvatska) ?

Two Countries with many similarities like history and people but at the same time with many differences like religion. Serbians are Orthodox Christians and Croatians Catholics.

Here is the transcript which you can enable as a subtitle in the video if you have troubles with my accent.:

Serbia and Croatia both share much of their history. They both were part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and afterwards of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Furthermore, the two nations share many cultural traits, they speak the same language, but they have also many differences. Firstly, they have different religions. Croatia is Roman-Catholic while Serbia is Orthodox Christian. Naturally, Serbia is aligned more with other Orthodox Countries like Greece and Russia, and Croatia more with Catholic countries like Italy.
From a geographical point of view, Croatia has sea access, in the Adriatic Sea, with many islands, which not only provide tourist revenue, but also reinforce other parts of the economy like sailing, and fishing. Serbia has no access to sea, after the secession of Montenegro. That gives an advantage to Croatia.
However, Croatia’s geography is not entirely positive. Its silhouette, which is shaped like a boomerang, makes communication between the parts of the country more difficult, and the transportation of goods and services more complicated and expensive. There are parts of Croatia, completely detached from the mainland, something known as exclaves. This peculiar geography of the country causes several logistic problems while Serbia has an easier access to other countries.
Serbia has its own problems however: Firstly, they have no sea access as we just said. Secondly, they have problems in the south of their country with the de facto state of Kosovo, which is not recognized by Serbia or its allies. On top of that the Hungarian minority of Serbia in the area of Vojvodina ask for independence or a higher degree of autonomy. This state of political uncertainty makes Serbia in a more vulnerable position.
Croatia is a richer country compared to Serbia, despite the fact that Croatia has 4 million people and Serbia 7. This reality is reinforced supported by the fact that in all lists of GDP (nominal), GDP per capita, and PPP Croatia is in a higher position compared to Serbia. The quality of life is also better in Croatia as indicated by the HDI scale.
Furthermore, Croatia is a member of the European Union since 2013, while Serbia is trying to become a member of the union. Indeed, Serbia has applied for membership in 2009, but the fact they have political problems inside their border and financial troubles does not make them very likely to join anytime soon. Croatia is also a member of NATO, in contrast to Serbia which has shifted towards Russia.
Finally, we are going to compare the army strength of the two Nations. Serbia has a larger military force; it has a larger manpower, more combat aircrafts, and attack helicopters, but has basically no naval strength since it has no sea water.
So which country do you think is better?
Write your opinion on the comments below.
