The History of Botswana
The history of Botswana is a tale of resilience, cultural evolution, and the pursuit of independence. The region that is now Botswana has been inhabited by indigenous tribes for thousands of years, with evidence of human presence dating back to the Stone Age.
In the 19th century, various tribal communities inhabited the area, including the Tswana people, who played a significant role in shaping the country's culture and traditions. European explorers, particularly David Livingstone, made contact with the Tswana communities during their expeditions in the region.
During the 19th century, Botswana faced external pressures from European colonial powers, but it managed to maintain its independence and avoid direct colonization. Instead, the region became a British protectorate, known as Bechuanaland, in 1885.
Botswana's road to independence accelerated in the 1960s, with a growing desire for self-governance. On September 30, 1966, the country gained independence from British colonial rule, and Seretse Khama became its first president. Since gaining independence, Botswana has navigated a path of political stability, economic growth, and social development. The nation's success story is underlined by effective governance, prudent resource management, and a commitment to democracy.
Botswana's history is one of triumph over challenges, exemplifying the power of unity and determination. Today, the country continues to build on its past achievements, embracing its cultural heritage, preserving its natural treasures, and shaping a prosperous and progressive future for its people.

Follow us on our road trip safari through southern Africa's wildlife paradise Botswana. Botswana’s Okavango Delta - Heaven on Earth

DIRECTOR’S NOTES:

Hey! Antoine Janssens here. Since I was a kid I’ve been fascinated by the wildlife around us. I watch a lot of wildlife documentaries and the beauty that they display still shocks me all the time.

The vision that I have about this sensitive topic is quite simple:
« Look at the beauty of this animal evolving in the wild. We must protect it if we want our children to see it the way we do. »

People protect what they love.

The goal of this movie is to show the beauty of the Okavango Delta and the magnificence of these species living their best life in the wild. And honestly, it's also good to see a place where humans don't have control over it.

I hope this movie will touch you deep in your heart (or just a little bit it’s quite ok ????). Let me know what you think in the comments, I’ll be there!

And finally THANK YOU VERY MUCH @Beautifuldestinations for making this possible!

There's only one place on Earth where you can be in four countries at once; and it's in Africa. Learn more about Bright Trip at

The colonization of Africa has created many seemingly arbitrary (and sometimes problematic) borders. One of these African borders is so complicated that it is the only one of its kind in the world. LESOTHO: The Country Located ENTIRELY inside of South Africa

Lesotho, formerly known as Basutoland, was renamed to the Kingdom of Lesotho upon independence. It is a country in Southern Africa with an area of over 30,000 square kilometers and a population of about 2 million people. It was previously a British Protectorate. Lesotho gained independence on October 4th 1966 and is a member of the United Nations, the African Union, the Commonwealth of Nations and Southern African Development Community(SADC). Maseru is its capital and largest city. ‘Lesotho’ loosely translates to ‘The Land of the Sotho’. Its people are referred to as Basotho and its currency is Lesotho loti and South African rand.

Lesotho’s position is unusual. It is the Southernmost landlocked country in the world. It is the largest of the world’s three independent states completely surrounded by another country’s territory. San Marino and Vatican City are the other two states. Lesotho is also the only state of its kind outside of the Italian peninsula and is a microstate as well. The country is simply an enclave.

In this video, you are going to discover Lesotho through many facades, so please watch it until the end.

Botswana presentation

We learn about how Botswana became a nation and how three tribal chiefs came to London to fight for their country. Also, the true-life love story that inspired the 2016 film A United Kingdom about the heir to the country's throne who was willing to give up everything for the white woman he loved and how he fought racial issues to become the first president of his country. Also, about Botswana's wildlife protection programs and the diamond mines of the country. Very interesting presentation.

While I constantly try to find the positives in every place I visit, there are a few nations that I just simply didn't enjoy.

The country of BRUNEI is one of them.

I went to Brunei back in 2014, three years before I made videos, but my negative experiences in the country have stuck in my mind ever since. That, combined with its absurd human rights laws such as stoning to death LGBT members, I felt like this video needed to be shared with the world.

Have you ever visited any countries that you didn't enjoy? Please share below, I'm curious to know.

The past few days in Antananarivo, Madagascar have been overwhelming, intense and eye-opening. And I apologize for the delays in posting these videos -- it's been nearly impossible to find decent enough wifi.

Madagascar, as a whole, is a beautiful tropical island with stunning greenery, giant baobab trees and unique wildlife (like lemurs!). It's also massive -- about twice the size of my home state of Arizona -- floating 250 miles off the southeastern part of mainland Africa.

But putting the natural beauty aside, Madagascar is one of the World's poorest countries, with the 5th lowest GDP per capita. Walking on the streets of Antananarivo, I couldn't help but observe and analyze what I was seeing --- people just barely managing to survive, working labor-intensive jobs with very little pay.

My new local friends and I took a mini road trip to some outer villages, where I learned about the daily life of people working in the markets. Here's what I discovered.

If there's any takeaway from today (and through travel in general) -- it is to appreciate the life I live. If you are reading this as well, consider yourself lucky because you have internet, which most of the people in Madagascar cannot afford.

Memorizing every UN Member Nation | Geography (Now) Challenge!

Putting that blindfold on took me back to the days of when I use to be into Cubing. Good old days.

This time around, I wanted to make the better use of this lockdown and get done with all the stuff I've been procrastinating on. This was on that list. I should probably work on finishing The Alchemist now.

The challenge is basically to list out all the UN member nations and the two observant states as of late March 2020. There are 193 in total.

Also, this wasn't as challenging as I first assumed. I think I spent much more time filming editing this video than preparing for it. Also, here's the link to the uncut video, if you feel the need to check that I didn't remove my blindfold during this challenge:
