My Solo Trip to the Galapagos: An Epic Week of Snorkeling, Sharks & Sea Lions

Join me on an epic solo trip to the Galapagos islands for an amazing week of snorkeling, scuba diving and island hopping. The Galapagos Islands is one of the worlds most important marine island ecosystems in the world. Full of unique species of plants, birds and tortoise it also protects huge swaths of ocean, and I was lucky enough to visit this place for 8 days. I started off on the Island of San Cristobal for a few days before heading off on a small ship cruise around the southeastern islands to see some of the most incredible marine life of my life.

GALAPAGOS, SAN CRISTOBAL: Travel Guide to Beaches, Sea Lions & Kicker Rock

Welcome to Sea Lion heaven: San Cristóbal. The Galapagos in Ecuador is one big animal paradise. Nowhere in the world can you see wild animals so easily in their natural environment. In two previous episodes you could already see that we landed on Santa Cruz, the most central island. Then we took the boat to Isla Isabela, for a snorkeling tour at Los Túneles, a famous dive site full of wildlife. Now we are on the third island called San Cristóbal. The sea lions are everywhere. We snorkel with sea lions and sea turtles and visit the most beautiful beaches of the Galapagos. We also visit the famous Kicker Rock for a snorkeling tour and see hammerhead sharks, sea lions, rays, frigate birds, blue-footed boobies, sea turtles and much more.

This year we travel all over the world and after Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Tobago, Grenada, The Bahamas, USA and Mexico, Galapagos is already our twelfth destination. Follow us on this world tour, first in Ecuador, then Brazil and then to many more beautiful destinations! We also cross to Asia, Oceania and Africa! We travel non-stop all year round and film everything. Also take a look at instagram @woutoftheworld or

Galapagos Islands - How is this Real Life?!

What do you imagine when you hear the word Galápagos? If you're interested in booking this tour (or one similar), click this link for 5% off your booking:

We remember first reading about this island sanctuary, a place that has been undisturbed for millennia and overflowing with fearless life forms due to having evolved without human interference. But what the books fail to mention is that you truly have to experience this paradise in person to fully understand how spectacular it is. Come along on a Galapagos cruise to discover endemic species like the massive land tortoises, swim with penguins and playful sea lions, dive with hammerheads and spotted eagle rays, and carefully step around more iguanas than you could ever count as we explore the islands.

We are thrilled to have been sponsored by the Ecuador Tourism Board to produce this video, and to help launch the Ecuador Film Residency program for content creators around the world. To find out more about the Ecuador Film Residency click here:

GALAPAGOS: ISLA SANTA CRUZ - Travel Guide to ALL SIGHTS and ISLANDS in 4K

The Galapagos in Ecuador is one big animal paradise. Nowhere in the world can you see wild animals so easily in their natural environment. We start on the island of Baltra and travel to Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz. There we visit the Charles Darwin Research Center, named after the explorer and naturalist who based the Theory of Evolution on the animals of the Galapagos Islands. We also visit Tortuga Bay and Las Grietas, highlights with many more animals. Throughout the island we see land iguanas, marine iguanas, sea lions, giant tortoises, pelicans, crabs, tropical fish and birds.

This year we travel all over the world and after Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Tobago, Grenada, The Bahamas, USA and Mexico, Galapagos is already our twelfth destination. Swimming With Sea Lions in the Galapagos Islands! | Ecuador Series, ep. 8

The title says it all - ALMOST! Andie got so sick and missed part of the biggest (and last) day on the islands. But we got to see land iguanas, frigate birds performing their mating rituals, blue footed boobies guarding their young, and so many colorful fish and sea turtles. But then we got to swim among sharks and sea lions! It was an experience we'll never forget and the most wonderful way to close out our adventures in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.

DIVING GALAPAGOS in Search of HAMMERHEADS + WHALE SHARKS! Are We TOO LATE? Harbors Unknown Ep. 84

Diving Galapagos in Search of Hammerheads and Whale Sharks! Are We TOO LATE? Harbors Unknown Ep. 84
Did you see our first Galapagos video?? Check it out here.

We are chasing after the untamed, the undiscovered, the undisturbed.
And it seems that we are a step behind human colonization of raw nature.
The last frontier, the depth of the ocean, the vast waters of the pacific, the far islands of the Galapagos, Wolf and Darwin, that is where we’re headed.
We are sailing on the Humboldt diving vessel with an eclectic group of underwater explorers, instructors, commercial divers, repeat offenders in these remote waters. Some of them have been here before, they travelled from different parts of the world all looking for the same thing, the approaching shadow of the whale sharks, the sun blocking shiver of hammerheads, the icy eyes of Galapagos sharks.

We are all seeking the ancestral connection with a world that once was.
But are we too late? There is a fleet of nearly 300 Chinese fishing vessels surrounding the natural park and its protected waters, a swarm of highly sophisticated fish extraction machines constantly following the migratory patterns of giant squids, the primary source of food for the hammerheads, but also harvesting other species which have been overfished and completely depleted in Chinese national waters. Watch now to see what we discover in these far flung waters.

Thanks so much for joining us this week! If you enjoy the video give it a thumbs up, leave us a comment down below and be sure to subscribe to our channel.

If you're new here, Harbors Unknown is the story of two dreamers, Kristin & Fabio Potenti & our dog Yoda. We're a small family living aboard our catamaran, Wanderlust, sailing to Harbors Unknown. Exploring the world, connecting with people and places through the local cuisine, and showing how great food can be cooked on a boat with limited space and resources. Seeking to balance the desire to explore and travel to beautiful, remote locations while leaving no footprint, minimizing the Hawthorne effect of the observers who change the environment she or he observes.

We hope to inspire people and showcase the possibility of living an alternative lifestyle that provides freedom and fulfillment, all while keeping it real. Sharing the trials and tribulations of living off-grid, acknowledging the discomfort of detoxing from the modern world, finding pleasure in the subtleties of nature and joy in simplicity. Attempting to understand what makes the world tick and tock but also trying to gain a deeper comprehension of ourselves and identify what will satisfy that hunger for further exploration, for purpose. We have set off on our voyage sailing around the world, exploring the beautiful waters of South Florida, the Florida Keys, Bahamas, the US East Coast, and Panama. We finally hit the road in January 2022 alongside our sweet pup, Hopps, with a motto to live with less to experience more. After 7 months of life on the road, new adventures were calling and we decided to put our van in storage and head out on a backpacking journey across the world! Our goal is to explore and really experience different countries and cultures and inspire people to step out of their comfort zone and do what makes them happy. Best Tour in the Galapagos Islands! San Cristobal 360 Tour (Snorkeling, Kicker Rock, etc.)

This video highlights what we're calling the best tour in the Galapagos Islands. This is the 360 tour from San Cristobal Island. We went with Sunnlandtours and loved it.

It cost us around $150 per person, but it's 8+ hours of adventure including lunch, snacks, and some drinks. It also includes all snorkel equipment. We do a full 360-degree boat ride around the entire island of San Cristobal and stop at some incredible places to snorkel. We swim with loads of sea lions, sea turtles, nice fish, and even a few sharks.

The big finale is snorkeling around Kicker Rock which is known for it's dramatic appearance, deep blue water, and depending on the season - Hammerhead Sharks. We did not see any, but the experience is epic and we still saw a lot of nice fish and other marine life. We would definitely do this again if we get the chance to visit here again!

SO MANY SEA LIONS! | Kicker Rock, Española Island, San Cristobal | Galapagos Vlog Day 6-10

Did you know that you can experience the birthplace of evolution for your self? Join us in this 4 part video series of our adventure on the GALAPAGOS ISLANDS.
Part 1:
Part 2:
Part 3:
Part 4:

Today, we're on San Cristobal Island in the GALAPAGOS, our third and final stop on this epic adventure. San Cristobal is famous for having a huge population of sea lions, and they are literally EVERYWHERE - on the roads, benches, docks... really any open flat surface where they can rest from their hunting expeditions in the ocean. Make sure to check out the Interpretation Center ( where you can walk up to a beautiful mirador overlooking the San Cristobal bay.

Nearby San Cristobal is the famous dive site of Kicker Rock (Leon Dormido). We spotted hammerhead sharks, sea turtles, colorful reef fish, and the occasional sea lion swimming by. Overall a really great dive, but GORDON ROCKS still takes the cake for us!

Our final day trip was to Espanola Island, which is home to the Galapagos (or Waved) albatross, the largest bird in the Galapagos by wingspan. But besides these majestic birds, we also encountered baby sea lions, tons of marine iguanas and the poster bird of the Galapagos, the blue footed booby. There is so much life on Espanola Island and it really encompasses what it means to visit the Galapagos Islands - untouched nature protected for all future generations to come.

We also did one cave dive at Gardner Islet (next to Espanola), which was made better by some incredible close encounters with sea lions! A few playful ones followed us all the way during our dive, and even took a quick sniff at our flippers in case they were edible. Sea lions are completely different underwater - fast, agile, and oh so cute!

We're on an 8-day Galapagos Islands Cruise and this video covers days 5-7. This has been one of the best cruises we've ever been on and some of the best snorkeling in the world! The Galapagos Islands have so much to offer - in this video, we saw hammerhead sharks, white tip sharks, a Galapagos shark, a whole group of eagle rays (all while snorkeling!), and the most birds we've ever seen in our lives.

Going on a trip and need cell phone service? We recommend Airolo e-SIm!
