I'm sure you can imagine dropping the hook in such a striking place, then gearing up and slipping into the ocean is like entering a different world. It sparks a sense of wonder in us that is extremely addictive.

It’s our last couple days with mom sailing on board Curiosity and I think it’s safe to say, she's hooked.

Consider this your fair warning, we can’t be held responsible for any wanderlust sparked after hitting that play button. Because these are the perfect days that keep us fueled when we’re up to our elbows in boat projects or parked in front of our laptops for 12 hours straight.

Boat:
White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built.

The camera gear:
Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached.
Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v.
Underwater video Gopro3plus.

Editing:
Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff!
There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access.

Content:
I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.

Comments and being at sea:
I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.

GOODBYE. Goodbye all. Ep.188

I say goodbye to our Patrons and I leave Riley. I'm off, to the land down under to prepare for the birth of our boy. It was such an emotional week leading up to my departure. I've usually been fine leaving Riley for longer periods of time, but this time it felt different.. Riley has to look after La Vagabonde for an extra month and then he's going to sail it north to South Carolina where he's leaving it. Then he'll finally be able to fly to Australia to meet me. I just hope our baby doesn't come early... Anyway. Everything's going to be okay yep yep yep ????

Pregnancy vlogs will be released on my La Vagabonde Mum channel!

That is the most spotted eagle rays we've ever seen in our lives!!!
What a magical spot to snorkel and free-dive. Add in a few sting rays, reef sharks, damsel fish along with an octopus sighting and you can see why it became our favorite spot in Bora Bora.

Of course no day on the sea would be complete without some misfortune, some broken bits on the boat and finding plastic in the sea. Sadly it's all part of #BoatLife. But we're sailing in paradise and it's all good.

⭐ After you hit that play button we'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. We create these vids for you, and we always welcome friendly feedback.

Our first day is in the capital Papeete, where we are docked. I have rented a car from Avis for A$145 which is a cheap way to tour on your own.

Welcoming in The Islands of Tahiti - Short Version

In their stories, the first European navigators who set foot on the island, depict a warm welcome, from a friendly population. It is this spirit of hospitality that has endured through the ages. It is still present today, through the fragrance, of the tiare flowers. The kindness of the Polynesian people, and the flowery fragrances of Tahiti, will forever remain in the visitors' minds. from the moment they step off the plane to the moment, they leave the island.

Celebrating 140 Years of Polynesian Culture in Tahiti | Episode 180

This week we take a short break from sailing to go ashore and watch as much of the local celebration of Heiva as we can.

Heiva is a Polynesian celebration that occurs every July in Tahiti, and since we just happened to be here during it, we are taking full advantage of all the festivities! First we get to see a few of the competitions like fruit carrying races, spear throwing, palm tree climbing, and lastly coconut husking racing... It was amazing getting to see so much of the Polynesian culture, and after the competitions we were lucky enough to get to see a few of the spirited and world famous dancing displays... Its a very beautiful culture and we are in love with this area!!

Join us on our sailing adventures throughout the Pacific Ocean!

Thanks for following the adventures of WE!

Enua Manea - Cook Islands TA'AKOKA Dance Troupe .

Tahitian Dreamliner: Air Tahiti Nui - The Most Exotic 787

I hopped on an Air Tahiti Nui Boeing 787 Dreamliner from Auckland to Papeete, French Polynesia. Air Tahiti Nui 787 is the most colorful and the most exotic 787 I’ve flown. Flight attendants gave out tiara flowers to passengers. The flight was an immersive experience of Tahitian culture.

I literally traveled back in time and gained a day by flying from the earliest time zone (New Zealand) to the last timezone (Tahiti) by crossing the dateline on this flight. Tahiti is located in the middle of the South Pacific with isolation. The nearest diversion point is Cook Island. As a nice welcome, Polynesian music was performed after landing at Papeete Faa’a International Airport.

I spent a day exploring the island of Papeete by visiting a waterfall and spending some time planespotting. Next week, I will fly on Air Tahiti domestically to explore the Tahitian Islands of Huahine and Bora Bora.

We’re setting sail for the Tuamotus and I’m giddy like an eight-year-old chasing down the ice cream truck (yes, I really did do that once).

The Marquesas have been incredible (aside from the crazy rash) but I’m itching (pun intended) to see the famous French Polynesia atolls.

The Tuamotus are known as the dangerous archipelago or the Danger Islands. The looming coral reef and narrow passes, if timed poorly, can more closely resemble rafting a class five rapid than sailing. We’ve read some harrowing reports of three meter standing waves meeting a six-knot current that are not to be tangoed with.

Doesn’t exactly give tadpoles like us the warm and fuzzies. But, the idea of sailing and swimming inside what is essentially a sunken volcano kinda blows my mind. Curiosity trumps hesitation any day for me. Plus, our fellow cruisers have left impeccably detailed notes on how to calculate the tides and how to approach each atoll.

Our first Tuamotu is less than 500 nautical miles away, which is only a few days sail! But, as we were sailing away from the Marquesas, it hit me just how much planning goes into this salty way of life. So, I decided to take the opportunity to share how we planned this passage.

So Join us as we set sail from the Marquesas Islands towards the the Dangerous Islands. It's French Polynesia Sailing at it's finest!

ARANUI FAREWELL PARTY! Goodbye Tahiti, Marquesas and beautiful Polynesia!

You want to talk about epic trips? This was one of them ... cruising around for 10 days aboard the crazy Aranui 5 through some of the most remote, beautiful, idyllic islands of French Polynesia was an adventure and a treat. And this party the last night aboard was the bomb. A feast unlike any I've seen before, with dancing, partying and just all around good times with some of the nicest people I've ever met. So glad I got to have this one of a kind experience with such special, lovely people. Thank you Aranui and of course, thank you Get Lost Magazine for giving me experiences that I could never have wished for in my wildest dreams. So grateful.

tahiti farewell

farewell tahiti

Tahitian farewell dance by a lovely vahine (women)

We got treated to a beautiful and traditional Tahitian farewell song/dance while on a private Motu Pic Nic excursion off the coast of Huahine Island in French Polynesia. 3-6-18

Tahitian airport greeting

The Tahitian greeting that you get when walking into the airport in Tahiti.

So Long, a Cruisers Goodbye [E216]

Long Island is too good to be true. We had never made it that far South in the Bahamas before and are so happy we finally did. From snorkeling to walking to the Cape Santa Maria which has spectacular views we enjoy Calabash Bay. After a month of sailing with our good friends from @SailingVinyasa and Joe and Kate it's time to say goodbye.

If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up!
