GHENT, BELGIUM | 7 BEST Things To Do In Ghent

The city of Ghent is located in the northwest of Belgium, at the confluence of two rivers. During the Middle Ages, Ghent was a wealthy and prominent city-state mainly due to the manufacturing of cloth made from English wool. Today, it’s a university town and cultural hub full of amazing architecture, such as the 12th-century Gravensteen castle. From towering churches to detailed statues and peaceful canals, there are hundreds of charming views to take in here. In this video, we’ll break down the 7 best things to do in Ghent.

7. Try local delicacies
Try waffles, french fries, and Belgian Beer (Delirium Tremens is the local one), “Gentse Neusjes” and a “Julientje”.

6. Walk around Patershol
With unique architecture, well-preserved cobbled streets, and serene views of the canals, this is a must-visit spot.

5. Free walking tour of the historic center
Starting at Hostel Uppelink next to the Saint Michaels Bridge, you’ll learn all about the history of Ghent. Including how Ghent came to be one of the largest towns in Northern Europe in the 13th century.

☑️ Book free walking tour here:

4. Visit the Castle of the Counts (Gravensteen Castle)
The castle is a museum and a major landmark in the city. We highly recommend doing the audio-tour that is both funny and interesting.

3. Chill at Graslei or Korenlei
Located directly across from each other on opposite sides of the river, these two quays are part of the medieval port that hosted ships since the 11th century.

2. Enjoy The Festivities
Must-do: the Christmas market in December or the Gentse Feesten at the end of July

1. Kayak or boat tour on the river
To rent a kayak, head to Hostel Uppelink.
The other option is to do a 50-minute guided boat tour. Here, you’ll get a short history lesson while you admire Ghents most famous sights from a unique view on the water.

Ghent, Belgium's coolest city (4K ultra HD) | Manhattan of the Middle Ages

Join me on a walking tour in Ghent (Belgium), one of Europe's most picturesque cities.

When you think of Belgium, two cities probably come to mind - Brussels and Bruges. However, IMHO, Belgium’s most interesting and beautiful city is actually neither one of these two. That honor goes to the lively university city of Ghent, which offers a perfect mix of cultural heritage, architectural beauty, and urban modernity.

Known for its open, rebellious, and innovative attitude, Ghent is one of the most beautifully preserved medieval towns in Europe and often dubbed the ‘Manhattan of the Middle Ages’ because of its abundance of gothic towers, The vibrant city boasts more than 1,000 years of history, the atmosphere of a student city, and an extravaganza of artistic masterpieces

We are visiting one of the great cities of Europe, and yet it is not very well known, which makes Ghent, Belgium, a special destination that you would love, and be happy to spend several days there.
The waterfront along Graslei Canal in the center of town, with its 500-year-old buildings, is one of the great parts of the city. And there are so many other things to discover in Ghent, Belgium, a city that you might not be very familiar with.
Corn market is one of the most popular gathering places, with restaurants and bars and shops busy with locals and visitors night and day.
A top attraction is this spectacular castle, 800 years old, walk along its fortified wall and explore the many rooms inside.
Then bombard your senses with a walk down Graffiti Alley with pictures changing all the time.
This 91-meter-high belfry tower was built in the 14th century, and you can go up to the top for a splendid view, looking out over the central part of Ghent.
Fans of Gothic architecture will love visiting inside the cathedral. No admission charge, but if you want to see one of the greatest paintings in the history of art, you pay a small fee -- the masterpiece by John Van Eyck in a chapel surrounded by stained glass.
The streets of Ghent are perfect for strolling. Take a walk. Sit down at a sidewalk restaurant and watch the people go by. Have a meal. Have a drink. Just enjoy this beautiful setting.
Get around with the convenient tram system and see other parts of town with green parks where you can get away from the city and take a stroll. Check out the canals and visit some of the museums.
We'll be taking you to four of the major museums of town later in the program covering art, history and technology.
And then how about a boat ride, a 45-minute journey on the water, passing so many of the great old buildings of town, ending back at that beautiful central canal where we are going to spend some time.
It's curious that Belgium and the city of Ghent are not very well known to visitors compared to the other busy countries of Europe. Belgium gets relatively few tourists, and yet it's a fantastic place to visit. And Ghent is one of the best of all Belgian cities. As you're about to find out.
Located in Flanders in the northern part of the country, just 30 minutes from Brussels by train, easy to reach.
The historic center of Ghent is compact, just 800 meters wide with so many things to see. And we'll take you beyond that to show you the rest of town.

Ghent in Motion (2018), hidden pearl of Flanders, Belgium. (4,5') 4K AERIAL DRONE MOVIE

Do you remember ‘Ghent in Motion’? In this film project in 2013, we were the pioneers of capturing Ghent from the air, using drones. Today, five years later, both the city and the audiovisual techniques have evolved to such an extent that a sequel was required.

Just like 'Ghent in Motion', 'Ghent from the Sky' again pushes the boundaries to an upper level. Better cameras and lenses allowed us to make breathtaking, sharp and even more profound images of our beautiful city of Ghent.

In the summer of 2017, our cameras flew over the city for twenty days. In the devoted and seamlessly edited result, the medieval city center and the Ghentian architecture play the leading role.

With this film, a digital postcard in the year 2018, which is part of the documentary 'Ghentian', we want you to enjoy our beautiful city in all its glory.

Tips on How to Save Money and how to make money for your next dream travels
The first aspect is for you to figure out how much money you need to save which depends on where you planning to travel and how much fun you want to have in your travel. Whatever your plans may be: it’s best to have a plan in place.
Create a saving plan which will help you to accumulate money for travel
-Assessment of the cost of your trips
-Set financial goals
-Create a saving plan
-Implement your travel money goals
-Monitor and reassess of your travel money goals
Adhere to your saving plans for your next dream travels
-Saving money is slow but you can do it if you set a goal by
reducing your expenditures, selling some stuff, and earning some extra income.
Start a dedicated travel fund
-You can potentially create your travel savings bank account and save on a monthly or weekly basis even if it's just $10. Make it fun, habit, natural, painless, and Revel its growth over time.
Additional Tips
-Reduce your subscription expenses - you will be surprised how much you could save when you reduce subscriptions such as TV, internet, cellphone: some people pay up to $100 a month for their cable TV which will add up to $1200 a year. That money could fund your next entire trip to lots of places in the world. Besides, there are plenty of free and cheap ways to get entrainment. For example, Netflix is about $10 a month, or Youtube Subscription or prime video subscription on amazon can save you a lot of money.
-Reduce your utility bills
The average utility bill in the US ranges from $90 to $140 a month. If you reduce 15% off your money by doing fewer loads of laundry and conserving energy, you could add around $225 to your savings, annually.
-Invest in Real Estate or other asset classes so that you can potentially have a passive income that allows you to travel.
-build an online business like Amazon FBA, dropshipping, blogging, or your own eCommerce store that will generate you enough money for your travels.
-Reduce the cost of your gym membership
-Save on clothing expenses
Finally, be financially efficient. Watching your friends go out overnight to buy expensive electronics, pricey cocktails, and new boots will make it a little hard to save. Plan your trips: by budgeting both time and money, you will have a wonderful experience in your travels.

Let's explore the historic Flemish city of Ghent in Belgium

#Ad - A look at Ghent, in the Flemish half of Belgium in association with #VisitFlanders & #VisitGhent.

With around 36 hours to spend in Ghent, and armed with our City Card Gent, we head to the city's tourist heart on the banks of Graslei & Korenlei. Here we pick up a boat trip in less than ideal conditions, but it is a must-do when in Ghent and provides tons of information on the history of Ghent. The boat trip takes you to a set of restored city gates at Rabot, and this is our excuse to take a closer look at these, and another feature just out of the heart of the city, the Great St Elizbeth Beguinage of Ghent.

Returning to the centre of Ghent and we carry on our stroll around, locating the tourist office on the way. Our next destination is the must-see, Gravensteen, or Castle of Counts, with its brilliant audio guide providing a humous history of the castle.

With the learning still on the agenda, we head to the City Museum before topping up on a little Flemish culture at the Museum of Fine Arts. One of the finest examples of Flemish art is the The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, also known as the Ghent Altarpiece, so we head back into town to St Bavo's Cathedral to check out the Augmented Reality tour and the Van Eyke brother's masterpiece.

The amazing thing about Ghent is that street art is all around you, and there's even a 'Grafitti Street', but they're #SorryNotSorry.

Our tour of Ghent continues by taking in the historic streets & buildings that make up the heart of this incredible city; we wander off to discover the lanes of Patershol before enjoying the Ghent as dusk falls.

Thanks so much for watching, and we'd love to hear from you so please leave a comment and don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss any of our travels: ????-

What to do in GHENT | Belgium Day Trip

Every traveller should have Ghent on their list of cities to see. A quick train ride from Brussels, this ancient medieval town has no shortage of sights to see. A Grand Castle, old churches and a 91 metre high Belfry of Ghent. The canal through the old town included boat rides and there are a handful of fantastic museums. The weather started off great then quickly turned into rain, however, I made the most of it. When the rain wouldn't cease, I had some beer and waffles. Ghent, Belgium is a must see! #ghent #belgium

GHENT - BELGIUM [ HD ]

Try not to wear out the camera in Ghent, where lovers of romantic architecture tend to get over-excited.
I swear, I don’t know of any other city with so many castles, palatial homes and cathedral like churches. It seems that there was a lot of money here a few centuries ago.
