Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, Ghana

Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, Ghana
Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, also know as the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park(KNMP) is the last resting place of the first President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. It is dedicated to him for his outstanding campaign to liberate Ghana(by then Gold Coast) from colonial rule in 6th March,1957.

The entrance to the site is from the 28th February High Street just along the coast from Independence Square. It is located directly opposite the old Paliarment House now known as the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice(CHRAJ).

It has a total surface area of approximately 5.3 acres. The mausoleum provides a front for the statue of Nkrumah whereas the museum is subterranean and does not compete with the mausoleum for attention. Rhythm, contrast and harmony were the main principles of design used in this building.

Why a Mausoleum of Kwame Nkrumah?

Dr. Nkrumah was overthrown by military government in 1966, after ruling for 9 years. He then went to exile in the Republic of Guinea. He fell ill and died in Bucharest, Romania 1972 when seeking medical treatment.T

Nkrumah’s body was buried in Guinea since he was the Co-president there. With Nkrumah dead, the Arican Students Union in London feared that, the total emancipation of Africa has come to a dead end.

The students sent a memo to Guinea asking that the body of the late president should be brought to Ghana only if the then military government would denounce coup d’etat and re-erect the statue of Kwame Nkrumah that was toppled down during the coup. This marked the beginning of the Nkrumah Mausoleum Monument.

After 20 years of his death, Dr. Nkrumah’s image was restored in 1st July, 1992 on the same grounds where he led Ghana to liberation from colonialism on 6th march 1957.

In side the Nkrumah Mausoleum

The Museum houses the personal effects and publications of Ghana’s first president and pictures showing his life history.

Some of these pictures of Dr. Nkrumah with some of the most famous people of his time is an eye opener.

Wander through the photos, and you will be stunned at how many of the 20th century’s most iconic people pictured shaking hands with the founder of modern Ghana.

He is pictured with famous people like Jawarharlal Nehru, Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, Nikita Khrushchev, John F Kennedy of U.S.A, Sir Alec Hume, Queen Elizabeth II of England, Harold Macmillan, Pope Pius XII, President Nasser of Egypt, and countless leaders of countries like Malaya, Sri Lanka, Niger not forgetting Nigeria and many other more.

The body is buried under a catafalque raised in the centre of the park. Symbols which reflect Ghana’s culture and history were used to portray Dr. Nkrumah’s vision to promote the African personality. The full statue of Dr Nkrumah, wearing a cloth, in bronze is sited at the exact location where he proclaimed Ghana’s independence.

As you approach the main way leading to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, you’ll see springs on either sides of the walk way. Each spring has seven bare-chested, squatting statuettes of flute blowers, who seem to welcome the arrival of world leaders and other important personalities.

The design of the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, which represents swords turned upside down symbolizes peace. It can also be viewed as an uprooted tree to signify the unfinished work of Dr. Nkrumah to totally unite Africa.

This is a place you wouldn’t want to miss during your stay in Ghana, since the transition of Gold Coast to Ghana happened on this same location. Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, is what some scholars call the “genesis” of the actual History Of Ghana.

Touring West Africa's Largest Open Market- Kejetia (December in Ghana)

This video is a documentary or vlog I made on my explore from the new Kejetia market in Kumasi. December in Ghana has in recent been an event filled destination where People in the Diaspora are eager to see in Ghana.
In this eve of xmas, I visited the largest West African open market in Kumasi Ghana. Kejetia market is the busiest and largest West African market where one can stop shop for everything ranging from food, clothes, drinks, fabrics, jewelry and what have you. The new million $ Kejetia market also known as the Kumasi Central Market is very spacious, safe and secured market to shop this Christmas without stress. The new market was built to redevelop the old Kejetia which has been battling with fires, floods and other amenities.
Going into history, the construction of the market was built by the Government of Ghana under the Presidency of Mahama on the phase 1 and sod cutting for the phase 2 project also by the current President. The project was under the funding of the Germans who sponsored the cost. Prior to the construction of the new market, there has been a heavy downpour affecting market activities.
Inside this new market is the following; police station, clinic, fire hydrants, and so on.
So much excitement and friendly people made me share this vlog.

The world they say is a book those who do not travel have read only one page. Growing up and with the studies I had in the tourism sector, my vision was to travel the world and have fun. Little did I know my fun and the travel videos I gather was also going to pay off. Not only the business side, but also visiting beautiful places, continuous learning of sustainable underground culture and making vlogs is just exciting.
I am Derrick, a small content creator from Ghana and the purpose of this channel is to share my adventure while I travel with you.

Crossing Continents - From TEXAS to Ghana: Houston's Mayor Inspiring Journey of Unity

Crossing Continents: From Houston, TEXAS to Ghana is an inspiring journey of unity.

In this video, Mayor Turner discusses the journey to Ghana, accompanied by a dedicated 30-member delegation, which exemplifies the power of diplomacy, his legacy of promoting unity, cultural exchange, and community building.. This video is a must-watch for anyone interested in African diaspora transformation.

Mayor Turner's vision and determination brought this invitation to fruition. In his interview with Dentaa on the ODANA NETWORK platform, Mayor Turner talks about his experience traveling to Ghana and the many lessons, unity, and business opportunities.
Embarking on a journey that transcends borders and connects hearts, the charismatic Mayor Sylvester Turner led a remarkable delegation of 30 individuals on an odyssey that intertwined history, culture, and diplomacy. Their destination was Ghana, a land steeped in rich heritage and profound significance.

As they stepped onto Ghanaian soil, a warm embrace awaited them from the members of the GUBA Diaspora Network. The connection was immediate, a testament to the power of unity across oceans. The airport's atmosphere buzzed with excitement, as the GUBA team and esteemed government officials converged to extend their warmest hospitality.

After a well-deserved respite, a magical evening unfolded, hosted by none other than The McDan Group's visionary CEO, Daniel Mckoley, at his residence. Underneath the stars, amidst the twinkle of city lights, a private business dinner reception forged bonds and opened doors. It was a night when ideas fused with dreams, and aspirations were kindled.

The dawn of a new day brought with it an Accra City Tour, an exploration of both history and humanity. From the vibrant tapestry of Makola Market to the poignant tales whispered by the winds of James Town Fishing & Historical Community, each step resonated with the echoes of lives lived and stories told. A pause at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park & Mausoleum stirred reflection, a reminder of the giants on whose shoulders they stood.

The journey continued, revealing the heart of Ghana's cultural essence at The National Museum & Theatre. Independence/Black Star Square offered a moment of unity frozen in time, while The Arts Centre painted a vivid palette of artistry and craftsmanship. The W.E.B Dubois Centre for Pan African Culture beckoned a testament to the resilience and the unbreakable spirit of unity.

In the embrace of the Central Region, a profound chapter of history unraveled. Assin Manso & Donkor Nsuo, known as The Slave River, stood as a haunting reminder of humanity's darkest days. Along the Cape Coast-Kumasi highway, the echoes of a painful past resonated as they explored a link in the chain that bound generations in sorrow.

Cape Coast Castle stood in stark contrast, its ancient stones whispering tales of resilience and triumph over adversity. A Portuguese 'feitoria' that transformed over centuries, it bore witness to the passage of time and the indomitable strength of the human spirit.

As the sun set on this transformative journey, Mayor Turner and his delegation returned to the luxurious embrace of the Kempinski Hotel. The final evening's crescendo took them to Sky Bar 25, a rooftop sanctuary perched atop Accra's tallest building. Amidst the backdrop of twinkling lights and the city's heartbeat below, they celebrated a journey that transcended time zones, united hearts, and forever etched Ghana's indelible mark in their souls.

This adventure was more than a mere sojourn; it was a pilgrimage of the heart, a voyage of shared memories, and a dance of cultures. Mayor Turner's leadership guided them through the tapestry of Ghana's past, present, and future, and in doing so, wove threads of connection that will endure across continents and generations.

GUBA DIASPORA NETWORK extends our heartfelt gratitude to Mayor Sylvester Turner for his visionary leadership and commitment to fostering international relationships.

We would like to thank the GHANA TOURISM AUTHORITY, MINISTRY OF TOURISM, BEYOND THE RETURN, MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS, MINISTRY OF TRADE, MINISTRY OF ENERGY, MCDAN GROUP OF COMPANIES and HOUSTON, TEXAS Mayor's office.

A project of this magnitude is a collaborative endeavor, and we are immensely thankful for the support and encouragement from our partners and volunteers.

Finally, we would like to acknowledge the viewers, whose engagement with this documentary promotes understanding, unity, and the shared values that connect us all.

Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey.

He Left America To Build An Ancestral wall In Ghana!

WEBSITE:
Jerry Johnson is from California. He lives in Ghana. He works in New Ningo. He founded the Ancestral Wall.

It is magnificent. There are 90 portraits of 90 heroes and sheroes and icons. Several artists used their skills to paint an outside gallery for students, visitors, and locals alike. From Mariam Makeba to Steve Biko. From Na Gbewa to Imhotep.

“We are recognizing those who recognized us,” teacher and cultural entrepreneur Johnson told this reporter while walking through the altogether serene and informative grounds.

The pretty garden encompasses impressive portraits and a really great restaurant, and terrific guest houses.

Fifteen years ago, this realized dream started as a desire to “begin teaching the local youngsters African history. But there are so many villages, so many schools I couldn’t do it logistically, so I got the idea that if I put 90 characters up on the wall, then I could bring the schools for field trips.”

Word-of-mouth spread, and now, worldwide, “It has become something of an attraction. I go from 200,000 years ago with Eve.”

There she is short-Afro’d and all. So many others too: from Eve to Francis Cress-Welsing. From King Tackie Tawiah I to Thomas Sankara. From Shaka Zulu to Dr. Yosef Ben-Jochannan.

“I picked them on themes that I wanted to teach the children, so you will see people who aren’t very famous at all, but there is a lesson or something they stood for that I wanted the children to hear in terms of our history, our ancestry, and the foundation of our African being.”
