STREET FOOD NETFLIX - Seoul, South Korea

I did enjoy watching the Street Food Netflix show, especially the amazing cinematography and the amazing stories of the people behind the food. However, there wasn’t much emphasis, if any, on the eating part of the street food. So I happen to be in Seoul for a few days, and I happen to know Dan Gray ( who helped arrange the Seoul Street Food Netflix episode, and so he took us on the same tour, except this time, focused on eating everything.

Here are the places covered in the Street Food Netflix, Korean street food in Seoul episode:

Gwangjang Market - Most of the entire episode was filmed at the famous Gwangjang Market, a market I’ve been to many times, and is a must visit for Korean food lovers in Seoul.

Yoonsun Cho - Gohyang Kalguksu Stall - Most of the Netflix Seoul episode was based around Yoonsun Cho and her incredible kalguksu, hand made knife cut noodles. They were very home-style tasting, very comforting and delicious. She also serves a number of other dishes including nangmyeon, and seaweed noodles, all of which were very good. Her sauce is also amazing, and her kimchi. Price - 5,000 KRW ($4.21) per bowl

Honglim Banchan Stall - Probably the most delicious food on this entire Korean street food tour Netflix episode was the soy marinated crab from Honglim Banchan Stall. The crab was melt in your mouth and the marinade was perfect. Even better is when she scooped out some roe and mixed it with rice in the shell.

Bindae-tteok stall - There’s an entire section of Korean street food dedicated to bindae-tteok at Gwangjang Market. Along with these crispy mung bean pancakes, we also ordered Yukhoe, Korean raw beef with egg and pear. Price - 30,000 KRW ($25.27) total

Dongdaemun Food Street - Finally, the last thing in the Street Food Netflix episode of Seoul was the Baffle, a unique creation of rice made into a waffle, filled and topped with all sorts of interesting things. Price - 4,000 KRW ($3.37)

It was a fun Korean street food tour, and we all had a great time eating and meeting the friendly vendors from the show.

If you love to EAT then GWANGJANG MARKET is a MUST VIST in Seoul, South Korea. You can sample a range of traditional, local KOREAN STREET FOOD here. We take you on a food tour of Gwangjang Market in this video….

We eat:

Bindaetteok
This mung bean pancake is very popular at Gwangjang Market and you’ll see a number of vendors shallow frying these golden, crispy pancakes. They are made up of ground mung beans and vegetables and is dipped in a vinegar, soy and onion sauce.

Gimbap
The vendors at Gwangjang Market are well known for selling Mayak Gimbap which are ‘narcotic rice rolls’. These seaweed rice rolls don’t actually contain narcotics but they’re so named because they’re super addictive! Pickled vegetables are rolled together with rice and dried seaweed, brushed with sesame oil and then sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds. Delicious!

Bibimbap
Bibimbap is a must eat at Gwangjang Market. Giant bowls of fresh vegetables and kimchi line the benches of the bibimbap vendors. Bibimbap is mixed rice so rice, sometimes barley and a load of fresh and pickled vegetables is mixed together before eaten. We had ours served in a hot stone bowl but you can also have it cold. A dollop of gochujang (red chilli pepper paste) adds a mellow fiery kick!

Yukhoe at Buchon Yukhoe in Raw Beef Alley
Raw beef alley is another must visit when at Gwangjang Market. We ate at Buchon Yukhoe which is Michelin recommended (Bib Gourmand 2018 Seoul). We sampled the steak tartare which is served with matchstick pears, sprouts, raw egg yolk, sesame oil and sanakjii (raw baby octopus). The beef is brought in each morning and it was super fresh!

Korean Street Food Tour at Gwangjang Market in Seoul! ???????? (5 MUST TRY FOOD At Gwangjang Market)

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA - Gwangjang Market is the most famous street food market in Seoul for traditional Korean street food. This iconic market, renowned among locals, catapulted to international fame through its feature in the Netflix series Street Food Asia: Korea. For those venturing into Seoul's food scene or looking to indulge in Netflix-celebrated street food, Gwangjang Market is an unmissable destination. I will take you on a Gwangjang market tour and eat all of the best food from the market and food which appeared on the Seoul Street Food Netflix episode, we even see the famous Gwangjang Market lady.

Our Gwangjang Market Food Tour includes tasting the legendary kalguksu (handmade, knife-cut noodles), the crisp and savory bindaetteok (mung bean pancake), and the Gwangjang Market sundae (Korean blood sausage), a staple in Korean street food culture. I finish with maybe the most famous food in Gwangjang market. At least, it can be called that if you look at the queues. A Chinese doughnut.

It was a fun Korean street food tour for me so let's go on this delicious journey together and discover why Gwangjang Market is a cornerstone of Seoul's street food scene.

After taking a recommendation from Paddy Doyle Gwangjang Market surprised me.

Seomun Kimchi Pancakes

Seomun Market is the largest and oldest market

There are many delicious foods. Among them, there is
a store which is baking on the spot like kimchi pancakes

Seoul Street Food at Gwangjang Market

In Seoul, you'll find lots and lots of delicious Korean street food, here's the guide:

Seoul's Gwangjang Market is one of the best places in the city to sample a few of the best Korean stet food dishes. In this video I head to the market to take a walk around and explore a few delicious eats.

After walking around I sat down at a stall serving a variety of different tasty delights.

The first thing I eat is called tteokbokki which is rice cakes simmered in a thick red chili curry sauce. The dish is one of the most popular Korean street food staples.

The rice cakes were 3,000 Korean Won which is a little less than about $3.

The next thing I sample is small rolls of gimbap which is the equivalent of Korean style sushi rolls - rice and a few small pickled vegetables wrapped in seaweed.

The gimbap cost 3,000 Won.

The next thing is called Sundae which is Korean blood sausage. It was mixed with sticky rice and steamed in a strange outer shell and then slice on my plate. The sausage was really quite delicious. The Gwangjang market is full of great stalls serving Korean blood sausage.

One place of sundae cost 6,000 Won.

After walking around a bit more, I finally tried a fried bean pancake type of thing. Dipped in the sauce and eaten along with kimchi it was excellent.

If you ever visit Seoul, South Korea, you must head to the Gwangjang Market for tasty street food!
