A Helicopter Flight to Mount Everest, EBC+ World’s Most Dangerous Airport - Lukla

Helicopter take off from Luka Airport.
Lukla is the gateway to Mount Everest. There is no road, no car. A flight to Lukla is 25 minutes on a fixed-wing airplane or 40 mins by helicopter.

After refueling the helicopter headed to Mt Everest, passing Namche Bazar, Syangboche airstrip, Khumjung, Everest View Hotel, Tengboche Monastery, Pheriche, Pangboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorakshep, Khumbu Icefall, Everest base camp and Kala Ptthar.

Mount Everest is the one with the sharp peak with snow blowing at the top. We can go almost at 20,000 ft but Mt Everest stood really tall from where our helicopter flies.

We can land at Kala Patthar, Everest Base camp, or goraksep. We can take photos and videos or just you can enjoy 360-degree mountain views and we can see the world’s highest glacier, Khumbu Glacier. It really amazes us how close we fly to those mountain terrains.

A Flight to Mount Everest + World’s Most Dangerous Airport - Lukla

Our helicopter was one of the first to take off at sunrise around 6:20am from Kathmandu Airport. There are many helicopter operators offering tours to see the majestic mountains in Nepal but there’s only a small window of season to do this. I’d recommend going in April or October when the weather is at its clearest and not so cold.

Lukla is the gateway to Mount Everest. There is no road so no car can get there. A flight to Lukla is 25 minutes on a fixed-wing airplane or 40 mins by helicopter. We arrived there at 7am.

We took off again after refueling and headed to Mt Everest, on the way we passed Namche Bazar, Syangboche airstrip, Khumbu Icefall…

Mount Everest is the one with the sharp peak with snow blowing at the top. We were almost at 20,000 ft but Mt Everest stood really tall from where our helicopter was. We were trying to get up to Camp 2 of Mt Everest which is the absolute limit of the helicopter.

We eventually landed at Kala Patthar. I was so frantically taking photos and videos and started to use the oxygen supply from the helicopter. Our next stop is the pristine Gokyo Lake. On the way, we saw the world’s highest glacier, Khumbu Glacier. It really amazes me how close we fly to those mountain terrains. After a brief stop on the lake, we headed towards the world’s highest hotel, hotel Everest view for breakfast.

The whole trip took about 5 hours. The cost of doing it is about $1200 per person sharing on the helicopter. Helicopters don’t just bring tourists, they also bring cargo and bring down sick and fatigue trekkers from the mountain down on a daily basis.

Way Point of our helicopter flight:

1. Kathmandu (4,390 ft / 1,338m)
2. Lukla (9,380 ft / 2,860m)
3. Namche Bazar (11,290 ft / 3,440m)
4. Syangboche (12,402 ft / 3,780m)
5. Khumbu Icefall (17,999 ft / 5,486m)
6. Mt Everest (29,031 ft / 8,849m)
7. Kala Patthar (18,519 ft / 5,644m)
8. Cho La Pass (17,782 ft / 5,420 m)
9. Gokyo Ri (17,575 ft / 5,357m)
11. Hotel Everest View (12,729ft / 3,880m)
13. Lukla (9,380 ft / 2,860m)
14. Kathmandu (4,390 ft / 1,338m)

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour | The Best Tour in Nepal

There are different Himalayan routes that you can take Helicopter tour like Everest Helicopter tour, Langtang Helicopter tour or Annapurna Helicopter tour to witness the vastness of the Himalayas of Nepal. Sights of the glistering snow peaks, beautiful green valleys, breathtaking view of barren land always stands out for the lifetime.

One of the best available options to get so close to the towering peaks of the Himalayas, almost to the touching distance, is definitely the Helicopter tour. This video is filmed over Everest Region and shows an up close look at Mount Everest.

To find out more about helicopter tours in Mt. Everest check out

Here’s the entire trip:

We took off from airport leaving Kathmandu behind the same route that Sir Edmond Hilary and Tenjin Norge took to summit Mount Everest for the first time. Passing many hills, seeing many other mountain vides, looking at Jiri (Swtizerland of Nepal). And soon we passed Lamjura (3500m) we were able to witness high Himalayas of Everest region.

Flying over the same valley of Lukla, we were (we were excited to see even bigger and higher mountains like Summit peak, Thamserkhu and more. ) making our eyes even bigger to stair high mountains like summit peak, thamserkhu and many more. And suddenly, we were looking at Namche with its beautiful surrounding. Mt. Kwange and many more were taking Namche in their lap.

We were landing at Syngbuche for fueling but the Mt. Everest was already gazing at us. After stopping few minutes, we flew over Khumde and Khumjung village towards Mt. Everest. Oh a minute later we were lucky to connect out eyesight with Mt. Choyu (8188m) with its gigantic face.

The geographical situatedness of Everest region is itself amazing. It is located in the region ranging from Kanchangungha to Langtang.

Cholaste 6440m. Look at that O MY GOODNESS ! Lobuche peak 6119m, now lobuche village 4900m along with lobuche glacier and the top.

Flying over Khumbu glacier, towards Everest Base Camp and looking at Pumori mountain range is of course unforgettable, nothing beats it.

After visiting almost to the camp two of Everest climb, we turned back towards Kalapather with the view of Khumbu Icefall. By the way, we had a choice either land at Everest Base Camp (5365m) or Kalapathar (5400m), we chose Kalapathar for better view.

Standing at Kalapathar with 51 % oxygen level was not easy so we landed at Lakapathar for only few minutes. Ok after having panoramic view of Everest and more, we turned back towards Syangbuche now.

One of the best available options to get so close to the towering peaks of the Himalayas, almost to the touching distance, is definitely the Helicopter tour. Its best for those who have limited time but its great for everyone else if you look for Luxurious and at the same time thrilling experience.

Most importantly, there are different Himalayan routes that you can take Helicopter tour like Everest Helicopter tour, Langtang Helicopter tour or Annapurna Helicopter tour to witness the vastness of the Himalayas of Nepal. Sights of the glistering snow peaks, beautiful green valleys, breathtaking view of barren land always stands out for the lifetime.

Anyways, our company Mountain Ram Adventures offers Helicopter tours to any of these areas as per the requirements of the clients. We offer individual tour, group tour, family tour etc.

Ok now we are landing at Syangbuche. We will be taking a bit of time here to enjoy our breakfast with the view of Mt. Everest along with surrounding Himalayan peaks.

Oh its time to go back, but we still have one more hour to enjoy helicopter ride. Look at the view of Dudhkoshi river and villages like Monju, Phakding and Lukla and beautiful farming tares. Green hills, villages still overwhelm you before arriving in Kathmandu.

Mount Everest Base Camp Trek Vlog with a helicopter return @markreevestravels758 | 4K | Music Only

One of our clients, Mark, from Canada, did the Mount Everest Base Camp Trek with a helicopter return to Kathmandu. This is the video recorded by Mark about his journey and the people he met on the way.

#mounteverest #everestbasecamp #nepal #trekkinginnepal #relaxation #musiconly

Mark, along with his loving wife Loraine and his two sons, Sam and Tyler, started in Kathmandu. They did a sightseeing tour of the UNESCO heritage of Kathmandu and flew to Lukla to start the trek. The distance from Lukla to Everest Base Camp is 65 km one way, and they did walk all the way to the base camp, following several sherpa villages.

The kindest man, Mark, then decided to fly in a helicopter from Gorakshep to Kathmandu after their base camp journey. They first flew to Lukla from Gorakshep and then flew back to Kathmandu from there.

Thank you, Mark, for the great video footage. If you would also like to book the same trip, then here's the package organized by Heaven Himalaya for the Everest Base Camp Trek with helicopter return.

Day 12: The Day of Departure

Flying back in a helicopter is the quickest, easiest, and most luxurious return to Kathmandu after a 40-mile ascent from Lukla to Mount Everest Base Camp.

We designed this combined trek and heli trip for those who are under time constraints and don’t want to exert their bodies harshly through long days of trekking activity.

Amazing helicopter ride to Lukla - Everest Base Camp Trek Day 1

This helicopter ride from Kathmandu to Lukla was unexpected, but wow! All my flights go cancelled so I completely let go and got a last minute ticket to fly to Lukla via helicopter to begin my Everest Base Camp trek!

Once arriving in Lukla Airport, I met my guide and we walked for 3 hours in the dark to Phakding which was the location of my first teahouse.

I very quickly learned that Nepal was so natural, rural and beautiful, a complete contrast from Kathmandu, and seeing it from the helicopter like that really put the scale of the Himalayas into perspective.

BTW, I MADE THIS INCREDIBLE BIT OF GEAR

Everest Base Camp trek 2012 ( with helicopter ride from Lukla to Kathmandu )

#EBC #Henggorproduction

This could possibly one of my earliest video production. Still very amateurish in recording and editing then. Nevertheless, it gives an idea of our unforgettable experience in Sep 2012.
