In this episode, we went to the hills of Ariccia, a town famous for its porchetta (slow roasted pork). We met Pierro, who has one of the BEST porchetta shops in all of Italy. He showed us how and where his porchetta is made, at the centuries-old Leoni Randolfo porchetta factory. We saw the process from start to finish. The porchetta here only uses 4 ingredients: rosemary, dried garlic, salt and pepper. It is then slow roasted for several hours to perfection, before being shipped to local shops, still fresh out of the oven. We then go to Pierro’s shop in Trastevere: La Norcineria de Iacozzilli, to sample his famous meats. It was so delicious!

If you want to visit Pierro’s shop, check out the info below:

Eating SOUTH TYROLEAN FOOD in Italian Dolomites ???????? (IS THIS EVEN ITALY?!)

Welcome back to Italy! ???????? Instead of street food, we are showing you the BEST food to eat when you visit the Dolomites, in South Tyrol. This area is very close to the Austrian border, so their cuisine reflects that, which you won’t find anywhere else in Italy!

We are taking you to Seceda, an incredible mountain with breathtaking views. Many tourists come here for hiking, paragliding, skiing or retreats, but we’re here for the Tyrolean food!

To get there, you will need to take a gondola and cable car, which will take you to the most famous sightseeing spot. The ride round trip is 35 euro per person. Once you get there, you can start exploring along the many hiking trails.

????Seceda, South Tyrol

If you hike down, you’ll find the restaurant Troier Hütte, which specializes in farm to table food. A must try is their cheese and speck board. Their speck is smoked locally and is amazing! We also had a speck dumpling soup and beers. A perfect meal after hiking around.

???? Troier Hütte

The next day, we visited Lago di Carezza. This is just a short hike around a turquoise lake surrounded by massive mountains!

????Lago di Carezza

We then drove to Bolzano, a beautiful city influenced by Bavarian Baroque architecture. We walked through the narrow streets and old squares to get to Franziskanerstuben for more Tyrolean food. We ordered the classic Wiener Schnitzel and Apple Strudel.

???? Franziskanerstuben

We travelled around this region by rental car which is one of the best and most convenient ways to explore the Dolomites!

ITALIAN STREET FOOD in Tuscany ???????? 1.5kg Florentine Steak + PANINI INSANITY in Siena, Italy!!

This is Siena, an ancient Tuscan town which has become a UNESCO World Heritage site. It has a ton of amazing things to offer… One of which being DELICIOUS ITALIAN STREET FOOD!

For breakfast, we went deep into Siena’s historical centre to Gino Cacino di Angelo for their famous paninis. We ordered their eggplant specialty panino, and their porchetta panino. It was a perfect breakfast! You can also order amazing charcuterie boards and a wide variety of Italian wines. After a little sightseeing around the medieval squares, we stopped at a local caffe for a double espresso (doppio espresso). For lunch, we went to a super local “hole-in-the-wall” restaurant called Osteria Il Grattacielo dal 1840. For lunch here, there is no menu and you order either the “cold” lunch (Tuscan cured meats & cheeses) or the “hot” lunch (pasta). We both opted for the hot lunch, and had two different kinds of tagliatelle - one with pesto and the other with pomodoro and cheese. We washed it all down with the house wine, which was the best wine we had in all of Italy. For dessert we tried a unique treat called Cantucci e Vin Santo. The cantucci is essentially biscotti and Vin Santo is a strong, sweet wine. They pair by dipping the cantucci into the vin santo, which was surprisingly good!

Since it was our last day in Italy, we popped into a traditional wine shop called Cantina in Piazza and picked out several bottles of Tuscany and Italian wines to bring home. After a short break, we drove outside the city of Siena to the countryside of Tuscany. There, we went to a restaurant that specializes in Bistecca alla Fiorentina. This massive chunk of steak is seared on high heat briefly and is served shortly after almost raw. You can choose different types of beef, whether you prefer bone in/out and how many KGs you would like. We also ordered their risotto, since we didn’t have the chance to try it in Milan.

Addresses:
Gino Cacino di Angelo
Piazza del Campo
Torrefazione Fiorella
Duomo di Siena
Osteria Il Grattacielo dal 1840
Cantina in Piazza

Sicilian Street Food in Palermo ???????? CRAZY Italian BBQ + HUGE Arancini in Sicily!!

In this episode, we’re in Sicily! Sicily is a massive island in the south of Italy, the largest island in the Mediterranean! Our first stop on our journey across this culturally rich island is the capital city, Palermo! The ancient city of Palermo is home to some amazing and unique foods, which we will be showing you in today’s video.

We start the day with Granita with a Brioche, a very typical Sicilian breakfast. We highly recommend trying the “Granita di caffe e panna” which is Coffee and Panna, and the “Granita ai frutti di bosco” which is a mixed berry with panna. The brioche was light and fluffy!

????Caffetteria del Corso

Next, we venture into the Ballàro Market, the crowded and chaotic market in the heart of Palermo. We got to see all of the in-season produce from the agriculturally-rich Sicilian countryside. We also stopped at a street food stall serving all kinds of Sicilian street foods. We wanted to try their massive arancini, deep fried rice balls that are stuffed with ragu. This snack was so big, it could be considered a whole meal!

????Mercado Ballàro

We still had more food in Palermo that we wanted to try, so we made our way to the Vucciria Market. We found a local bakery to pick up Sfincione, which is Sicilian pizza. What makes it different from other Italian pizza is the use of Sicilian ingredients like anchovies, strong cheese, onions and herbs. It’s also served on a rectangular crust. We sat down the market’s bar to eat the Sfincione and enjoy it with a glass of Italian beer.

????Panificio Pietro Bonaccorso & Dadalia Osteria

Before taking an afternoon siesta, we had one more street food to try. We went to 'Nni Franco U'Vastiddaru for the famous Pani câ meusa. This is a veal spleen and lung sandwich, served street side. There was also cheese topped on the offal. The texture was good but unfortunately, the sandwich lacked any flavours.

????’Nni Franco U'Vastiddaru

In the evening, we wanted to have a full Sicilian spread for dinner. We went to the traditional Osteria Al Ferro Di Cavallo. Their menu is full of Sicilian specialties, and we managed to pick out some dishes we wanted to try. We ordered “Pasta Sarde e finocchietto” (Sardine & Fennel pasta), “Pasta alla Norma” (Sicilian Pasta with eggplant, marinara, and basil), “Involtino di Carne” (Meat Roll), “Insalata Sicilian” (Sicilian Salad), the most amazing Cannolo for dessert and their house wine to drink.

????Osteria Al Ferro Di Cavallo

Don’t worry, we have a lot MORE Sicilian street food to try in the next episode!!! Stay tuned and make sure you’re subscribed so that you never miss an episode from our Italian Food series! Thanks for watching Chopstick Travel!

ROMAN STREET FOOD TOUR

ROMAN STREET FOOD TOUR

You know what they say, Rome is where the heart is...or something like that :)

We love Italian Food and we love Street Food. So on our latest trip to Rome, after already seeing the major sights we decided to explore with our bellies instead of our eyes!

We made of our very own Roman Street Food DIY Tour. It was a fantastic way to explore the real heart of Rome and venture out into the neighbourhood. Better yet, for a day, we lived like Roman's :)

Food Tour of Rome, Italy

The beautiful Rome, as seen by the food. This isn't so much as a food tour as it is a compilation of my favorite spots as I toured through the Eternal City. Many of these fine dining establishments are in the Spagna district of Rome, as we stayed up by Piazza del Popolo, but the tour also brings us to Felice, an off-the-beaten-path very nice ristorante where we got what I may say was our best meal in Rome. It was recommended by a friend who lives there local.

Pizza. Don't know how much pizza I ate while I was in Rome, but you'll get a good idea when you follow along in this video. The first night in Rome? Pizza (and lasagna). The second day in Rome? Pizza. Lunch? Pizza. Dinner? Pizza. Breakfast? Leftover pizza. Haha, you'll see plenty of it in this video, along with fresh fish, baked goods, meat, cheese, and everything else that is perfect about the food in Rome.

Some of the restaurants in Rome we visited, including some great street food:

Canova - (funny enough, I saw this place on an episode of 'Friends' while I was watching the series for the first time during Covid lockdowns. VFC was like Been there, done that. Ah yeah.

Antica Osteria Croce - a very nice family run restaurant in the Spagna district. Food was excellent, service even better and they even accommodated VFC stopping in for a late-night glass of wine while they closed up.

Ristorante Angelino ai Fiori - enjoyed my birthday lunch/dinner here, just down the road from the Colosseum of Rome. Exquisite outdoor dining and the food was very, very fantastic! You can also hear much of the street entertainment from here, where the street performers perform by the Roman Forum.

Grano Frutta e Farina Bakery - Best pizza. Also near the Spagna district, the pizza pies are oven-cooked in a sheet, then cut with scissors when you tell them how much you want. The crisp on the bottom, the taste - absolutely loved this place. Could eat every meal here every day. Ah yeah.

Acquasalata Fish & Lounge - Just down the road from the Grano Frutta, you can enjoy a full meal here - or a pizza. I did both, but mostly I would stop by for a glass of wine at night after walking miles touring the beautiful and historic city during the day.

Taverna del Corso - An excellent little tavern on the Via del Corso. Pizza (of course) and other Italian food delicacies. I tried the lasagna and a beer.

Tonnarello - in the quaint little area of Trastavere, this place was awesome. The food was delicious, pasta served in little pans, I loved it. Stacks of mozzarella in the caprese salad, calamari was great - but the pasta. Ah yeah. Trastavere is a hip area of Rome, definitely take a walk through and eat there, but I'm not sure I would stay. Not necessarily within walking distance of everything, stay in the main areas of Rome and Uber or taxi over to Trastavere.

Da Felice e testaccio - Recommended by a friend living and working local, this was an awesome fine dining experience. The food was so, so good. Cooked to perfection. The wine recommendation was excellent. Best meal in Rome, for us. At the time this place had plans to open a restaurant in New York City, as well, but I wonder if Covid put a stop - or pause - on those plans.

If you have any other recommendations (and if you've read this far), please drop them in the comments below!

Enjoy! Ah yeah.
