The drive from Miami to Key West is without a doubt one of the most iconic road trips in the US! And while you could spend weeks trying to do, see, and eat everything along the way, we only had one day to squeeze in as much as possible, and we did just that! From milkshakes at Robert is Here Fruit Stand to feeding Tarpons at Robbie’s to eating Conch Fritters and Key Lime Pie at Keys Fisheries to taking in the incredible views at Bahia Honda State Park, our day on the Overseas Highway did not disappoint!

Driving down the Overseas highway to Key West is one of our favorite road trips in the United States. We stop for lunch in Key Largo, explore tourist spots on Islamorada, and end our day at Blue Heaven in Key West.
The Overseas Highway is a famous and scenic highway in the United States, connecting the mainland of Florida to the Florida Keys. Also known as U.S. Route 1, the Overseas Highway stretches approximately 113 miles (182 kilometers) from Miami to Key West.

Welcome to Key West! Also known as the Conch Republic, this almost 8 square mile island is America’s Southernmost city and lies just 90 miles north of Cuba! Known for its turquoise waters, lively nightlife, world-class water sports, and of course… Key Lime Pie, Key West is one of those places that everyone should visit at least once! There’s enough to do in Key West to keep you busy for more than a few days, but if you’re a time-crunched traveler like us, then we’ve got good news for you… You can cover a lot of ground in Key West in a short amount of time! We only had one day to do, see, and eat as much as possible, and we did just that! From eating the famous Key Lime Pie at Blue Heaven Restaurant to strolling down the world-renowned Duval Street to watching the sun go down from a 65-foot catamaran with a cold drink in hand, our time in Key West is something we won’t soon be forgetting.

Think of us as your Florida Keys travel guides as we take you on our ultimate road trip from Key Largo to Key West in two days.
Looking for a road trip itinerary? Here are 9 stops that we highly recommend on your way through the Keys:
1. Stop at the Key Largo visitor center to kick off your trip
2. Visit Seaside Eatery for coffee and breakfast in Key Largo
3. Shop at Rain Barrel Village and Visit the Giant Lobster, Betsy, in Islamorada
4. Take a break from sitting in the car and visit the History of Diving Museum, which is dog friendly!
5. Get some vitamin D at Sombrero Beach, also dog friendly!
6. Sleep at the most affordable campsite in the Keys, at Curry Hammock State Park in Marathon
7. Grab a quick coffee at Curly’s Coffee and Marina (it’s the BEST)!
8. Spend an hour flying your drone over Seven Mile Bridge, or just stop right before to get the amazing views!

Wir starten in Miami Beach und besuchen Miami city. Hier sind die Wynwood Walls wirklich sehenswert. Weiter geht’s auf unserem Florida Trip nach Key West. Die Fahrtzeit dauert mit Stops rund vier bis fünf Stunden. Key West lohnt sich definitiv. Von den Keys fahren wir mit dem Mietwagen in den Everglades National Park. Zwei schöne Erlebnisse sind die Airboat tour und eine Kajak Tour. Entlang der Küste reisen wir in Südflorida bis nach Orlando. Die Stadt ist bekannt für die vielen Freizeitparks von Disney, Universal und vielen anderen. Wir zeigen dir welche Freizeitparks in Orlando wir am coolsten finden. Viel Spaß mit Florida in 5 Minuten!

FLORIDA KEYS: Road trip with a Harley on the OVERSEAS HIGHWAY to KEY WEST
Ride with me from Miami to the Florida Keys, to the quirky, colorful and tropical town Key West - to the Southernmost point of the United States, and explore the gems along the way. One of the longest bridges in the world, an overseas highway from island to island.
The highlights and to DOs of a journey on the Overseas Highway from Miami to Key West:
- Rent a Harely Davidson to travel in style
- As soon as you turn onto US Route 1, getting lost or taking a wrong turn on your way to Key West would be a great archivemnent. You just follow Highway 1 South for the next 125 miles or 200 kilometers - and you will arrive in Key West.
- Stay at one of the the other Keys to safe some money - for example at Islamorada.
- There is one iconic dish you need to try when visiting they Keys - and Casamar Market close to Islamorada is indeed one of the best stores to get your hands on this delicious seafood: Stone crab claws.
- Go fishing in the Florida Keys!
- The overseas Highway crosses the Florida Keys archipelago. The series of islands dotted in the azure ocean, composed of the Upper keys, Middle keys and lower keys are linked together by several bridges that form the overseas Highway.
- Have breakfast at famous Robbie's restaurant
- The Seven Miles Bridge in Florida one of the longest bridges in the world. It is flying over the deep blue of the Gulf of Mexico over 11 kilometres and connects Knight key to Little Duck key from the Gulf of Mexico to the Florida Strait. And yes, it is definitely the most spectacular part when riding the Florida Keys all the way to Key West.
- The city of Key West with its tropical, nonchalant and rebellious atmosphere is a true symbol of the east coast of the United States. It is located only 90 miles or 150km from Cuba and offers a unique free-spirit vibe. Indeed Key West even has its own flag. The so called „Conch Republic“.
- Visit the most southernmost point of continental USA
- Located on Whitehead Street in Old Town, you can visit Ernest Hemingway’s former home, where he lived for ten years. Today, the house is a museum, and you can see Hemingsway typewriter, living rooms, kitchen and bathroom.
- Ride a Jet Ski to a sandbank and mangrove tunnels
- When in Florida, make sure to not miss out on a Cuban breakfast - for example at Sunrise Cafe!
