This will give you the true to eye view of the scenic Flåm Railway from Myrdal to Flåm. The mountains are so much steeper, so much closer and so much more detailed. The curves are so much tighter and the gradient looks so much steeper compared to what you can get out of a GoPro.

Oslo to Bergen, Norway by Train through the mountains and Boat through the fjords

travel videos & photos at: with text, maps & links.
We’re going to take you on one of the most spectacular train rides in all of Europe: starting in Oslo, we’re heading cross-country through fascinating mountain terrain, passing lakes and rivers and waterfalls, and then by boat through a vast fjord, finally we will be arriving later in the day at the ancient capital of Norway the town of Bergen. This special trip is called Norway in a Nutshell. Showing you a big cross-section of the country in just one day.
Please subscribe:
The scenery keeps getting more spectacular as we climb through the central regions of Norway, getting a little bit like Switzerland with tall mountains in the distance and glaciers, with lakes where the water is clear blue color.
We change trains mid-way at Myrdal and board the Flam railway which is one of the most scenic rides in Europe. It travels about four miles from the mountain tops down through seven lush valleys to the waters below in the Sognefjord, Norway’s largest fjord. There we catch a boat to Bergen through the Sognefjord. There's lots of great scenery during the boat ride, with the mountains towering high above on both sides of this chasm.

How to take the Flåm Railroad & Ferries in Norway | Retirement Travel 2024

This video is our Retirement Travelers travel vlog of our trip through Norway. We show you how to take the Flåm Railroad and ferries to see the Fjords in 2024. This is a bucket list item for many people, especially retired travelers, and it is not too expensive if you do DIY travel. We also show you around the beautiful city of Bergen, Norway and then travel the 7-hr train journey to Oslo.

Our senior travel guide to a rail and ferry trip through the Norwegian fjords can be an incredible retirement travel adventure filled with stunning landscapes, rich history, and unique cultural experiences. Here are several reasons why you should consider embarking on this Noway visit in 2024.

The Flåm Railway and ferry loop is a popular and scenic route that connects the village of Flåm to Bergen, Norway. This journey is known for its breathtaking natural beauty and provides an excellent way to experience some of Norway's most stunning landscapes. Here are some reasons why you might consider taking this route:

1. Scenic Beauty: The Flåm Railway is one of the steepest standard-gauge railway lines in the world, and it takes you through lush valleys, past cascading waterfalls, and along steep mountainsides. The views from the train are spectacular.

2. Nærøyfjord: The ferry portion of the journey typically includes a cruise through the Nærøyfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site. This fjord is renowned for its narrow, dramatic passages, towering cliffs, and serene waters, making it a must-see for nature enthusiasts.

3. Convenience: This loop combines two modes of transportation, the train, and the ferry, to create a seamless and picturesque journey. Just relax and enjoy the views, and never worry about the logistics of driving or navigating.

4. Cultural Experiences: Along the way, you'll pass through charming villages and towns to experience Norwegian culture and traditions. The journey allows for stops in some places to explore local attractions and cuisine.

5. Adventure: If you enjoy outdoor activities, this route offers opportunities for hiking, kayaking, and other adventures in the stunning Norwegian wilderness.

6. Photo Opportunities: The journey is filled with photo opportunities, so it's perfect for photography enthusiasts.

7. Time-Saving: Instead of taking a long and potentially tiring road trip from Flåm to Bergen, you can relax and take in the sights while making the journey.

8. Relaxation: The peaceful and tranquil atmosphere of the fjords and mountains provides a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Overall, taking the Flåm Railway and ferry loop to Bergen is a great way to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Norway while experiencing its culture and history. It's a memorable and convenient way to travel between these two picturesque destinations.

Exploring Flåm Railway & Gudvangen Viking Village, Norway 4k

Norway is a beautiful country that can surprise even an experienced traveler. In August we went on another road trip with a caravan. This time we decided to choose a popular tourist destination and visit Flåm and Gudvangen.

Also on the way, we visited the city of Hemsedal, from where we climbed the mountains to enjoy the view of the majestic Hydnefossen waterfall. This time we were lucky and the waterfall was full and impressive. After all, it is located in a region of Norway where Storm Hans (Ekstremværet Hans) recently raged, destroying houses and washing away roads.

On the second day, we visited the Stegastein viewpoint and drove through the rugged Norwegian Highlands, through which the Snow Road (Snøveien) leads, a national tourist road through the Aurlandsfjellet mountain, which leads to the cozy town of Lærdalsøyri. We returned to Flåm through the Lærdalstunnelen, the longest road tunnel in the world.

But still, the main goal of our trip was to travel along the most picturesque railway route in Norway. This is exactly what was written in the guidebook about the Flåmsbana Railway! But, as it turned out, to get the most vivid impression you need to take into account some factors, as well as wisely choose a side on the train!

After riding the train we made a very fast and extreme descent into the Flåmsdalen valley. At a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, we raced on the longest zipline in Scandinavia - Flåm Zipline. And this was our first zipline experience! Watch the video to find out.. is it the last one or not... :)

On the fourth day of the trip, we visited the town of Gudvangen. It is there, on the shore of Norway's narrowest fjord, Nærøyfjord, that the real Viking village of Njardarheimr is located. We not only visited them, but we also learned a lot of important life skills!

Then we drove along a picturesque part of the E16 highway and looked at the winding and very steep serpentine Stalheimskleiva and the stormy waterfalls on its sides. But in the end, we still had a disappointing experience of admiring the waterfalls...
We will tell you about all this and much more in our video!

We gladly invite you to take a ride with us along the Flåm Railway and visit the real Vikings!!! In this video, we will specifically give names of all places and write exact coordinates! After all, we sincerely hope that our tips for travelers to Scandinavia will be useful!

If you like the video, be sure to write something kind in the comments. This is incredibly important and pleasant for us! It also motivates you to continue exploring and making new videos! Thank you for traveling with us!

And if you want to support us or treat us to a cup of hot chocolate, then follow this link and become a member of our channel’s club! We will be extremely grateful to you! :)

Norway | The Flåm Railway - Flåmsbana from Myrdal to Flåm

The Flåm Line is a 20.2-kilometer-long railway line between Myrdal and Flåm in Aurland Municipality, in Vestland county, Norway. A branch line of the Bergen Line, it runs through the valley of Flåmsdalen and connects the mainline, trains running between Bergen and Oslo with Sognefjord.

The Flåm Railway has been described as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world and is one of the leading tourist attractions in Norway. In this one-hour journey join me the Myrdal Mountain station, situated at 867 metres above sea level to the end of Aurlandsfjord, a tributary of the Sognefjord at sea level in Flåm

The journey features the finest aspects of the stunning scenery of Western Norway. Running alongside the Rallar Road, impressive mountainsides, beautiful waterfalls, through 20 tunnels, and offers so many viewpoints its almost impossible to take all of them in one single trip.

The Flåm Railway is one of the steepest standard gauge railway lines in the world, with 80% of the journey running on a gradient of 5.5%. Definitely one of my favorites during my visit to Norway.

#Flåmsbana #norwayinanutshell #norway #flamrailway

Flåmsbana / Flam Railway - Amazing Norwegian Mountain Railway

The Flåm Railway is regarded as a masterpiece of Norwegian engineering. The railway between Flåm and Myrdal is one of the world's steepest railway lines on normal gauge. The gradient is 55/1000 on almost 80% of the line, i.e. a gradient of one in eighteen. The twisting tunnels that spiral in and out of the mountain are manifestations of the most daring and skilful engineering in Norwegian railway history.
