With diverse indigenous, African, and European roots, Havana’s culture and architecture reflect Cuba’s complex history of conquest, slavery, liberation, and revolution. Chosen for its strategic location on the island’s northwestern coast, in the early sixteenth century, Havana grew into the largest port in Spain’s Caribbean colonies.

The original layout of Habana Vieja—Old Havana—is still intact. Building ordinances in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries preserved the city’s architectural integrity. Wrought-iron gates, internal courtyards, and stone colonnades adorn the buildings of its five main plazas.

Among some 900 surrounding historic structures, a few highlights include the Castillo de la Real Fuerza, one of the oldest existing forts in the Americas, the eighteenth-century Catedral de La Habana on the plaza by the same name, and the Museo de la Ciudad, housed in a baroque palace on Havana's original town square.

Even with international recognition, the work of preserving the historic city center remains ongoing.

Visitors from around the world flock to Cuba for its pristine beaches, exciting nightlife, and a fascinating, blended cultural heritage of art, music, and design.

Traveling to Cuba is much easier for U.S. citizens than it used to be, but check the State Department website for any current advisory notices.

It is actually a network of fortifications rather than a single structure, and is the product of countless labors over a period of some two thousand years. Qin Shi Huang took the remnants of truly ancient fortifications, walls, and earthworks begun in the fifth century B.C. and linked them into a unified wall circa 220 B.C. as part of a massive project to protect China against marauding barbarians from the north.

AUSCHWITZ: The Complete DISTURBING Tour | WARNING: Actual footage

*LEARN HOW I TRAVEL FULL-TIME*
????

*WELCOME TO AUSCHWITZ*
The Complete DISTURBING Tour, WARNING: Actual footage. Auschwitz concentration camp is a place where the bleak reality of WWII conditions suffered by its inmates has not lost its intensity, sending shivers down the spine of its visitors and remaining reflection-provoking for years to come. Auschwitz-Birkenau was the primary site of the Nazi's final solution to the Jewish problem. It is estimated that 1.3 million people were sent to Auschwitz and of these, 1.1 million died. Most people deported to Auschwitz were sent immediately to the gas chambers. Those who did not die in the gas chambers died of other causes, including starvation, infection, medical experimentation, and forced labor.
Auschwitz isn’t somewhere you ‘want’ to visit, but it’s certainly somewhere that you should visit - a place you'll never forget.

Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it - *George Santayana.*

A Leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve

A leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. This photographer, who either chose to ignore the park rules or just was not briefed correctly, risked his life as a leopard tried to grab his foot.

As you can clearly tell, this vicious leopard was not very impressed and would have harmed the photographer. Even through leopard attacking people is rare, this is not to mean that you should play around with an leopard while on a safari. In fact, the best thing a guide should do when any wildlife gets so close to a tourist vehicle is to move away.

The management of Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya has already banned the camp and the guides who allowed this photographer to get involved in the would-be unfortunate encounter with a leopard.
