We bought a historic stone barn in the foothills of the Italian Alps and are renovating it to be our home. In an effort to bring this property back to a self sufficient homestead, this week we dig out a natural spring and turn it into a pond as a natural source for rain water collection.

THE MURAKA: Maldives Underwater Hotel Room (Inside Look)

The Muraka is the first underwater hotel room in the Maldives. Located at Conrad Rangali Island in the South Ari Atoll - Here's everything you need to know about it.

It has two levels. The first floor has two bedrooms, an outdoor deck with an infinity pool and a stunning bathroom that overlooks the ocean. The lower level is the underwater portion which is submerged 16 feet under the sea. This is where the master bedroom is, an incredible floor to ceiling bathroom and even a sitting room where you can gaze at the marine life. With a 24-hour butler, a private chef and even an on-call fitness instructor, it’s a vacation of a lifetime.

Read more about it here:

About the Muraka (Maldives underwater hotel)

1. Where the Muraka is located

The Muraka is located at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island. A five-star luxury hotel that’s nestled in the South Ari Atoll. They offer award-winning overwater bungalows, beach villas, and even an underwater restaurant. Now, remember that almost every resort in the Maldives is located on its own private island. So when you fly into the international airport, you’ll either have to take a 30-minute seaplane ride or a domestic flight to a nearby island, followed by a speedboat ride to get to Conrad. You provide your flight details and they take care of getting you to the resort.

2. How the Muraka was built

The Crown Company is responsible for building this project. They’re a privately owned company that specializes in resort infrastructure development in the Maldives. They not only have built the underwater villa but they also have built the underwater restaurant at Conrad. They originally built the restaurant in 2004, which came out incredible. You’re literally dining under the sea with vibrant fish surrounding you. Fast forward and Conrad invited them back to build another underwater project. The underwater villa. But this project was going to be much more complicated than the restaurant. They built the entire structure in Singapore and then transported it to the Maldives. Once in the Maldives, they used a crane ship to lower it into the water. They previously drilled piles into the coral reef to anchor it down. As it was lowered down, they had divers guide the legs of the structure into the piles. Finally, they had to concrete the legs into place to give it a firm hold. There were many other things that went into building this but that should give you a rough idea of how it was built.

3. How much the Muraka costs per night

Given the large investment it took to create this, about 8 million dollars, it’s obviously not going to be cheap. Are you ready for this? Brace yourself.

It’ll cost you anywhere from $15,000 to $30,000 per night. Given the time you visit, the prices are going to fluctuate a bit. But I have a feeling if you can afford that price tag, a couple thousand dollars won’t break the bank.

So if you stayed here for a week, it could cost you a couple hundred thousand dollars.

Do you think the price is worth it? Comment your thoughts below!

World-class sinkholes attract divers to South Australian farms ????️ | Wild Rides Ep 4 | ABC Australia

Trevor Ashby's property south of Mount Gambier looks like a typical dairy farm from the roadside, but hidden among the cows is a tiny portal into a world-class dive site.

The hole in the ground is so small that equipment and divers have to be lowered in separately.

But below the humble entrance is a huge, seemingly bottomless chamber.

We've had people who have dived all around the world and have come to here and they just couldn't believe the size of the room that we've got under our feet here in the middle of a cow paddock, cave diving instructor Gary Barclay said.

The Shaft, as it is known, is the darkest and deepest recorded sinkhole in the region, dropping more than 120 metres.

It was discovered by the owner's grandfather when he was ploughing a paddock and the horse put its hoof through the surface.

A pile of rubble 35 metres down was the family's unsuccessful attempt to fill it.

We really didn't have a clue how big it was underneath. We had no hope of filling it up, Mr Ashby, a third generation farmer, said.

It looks like an ant hill down there and we've tipped a thousand tonnes of stone down there.

Nemo's Garden - the underwater farm

Beneath the blue waters 100m off the coast of Noli in northwest Italy lies a cluster of balloon-like pods pegged to the seabed by ropes half a dozen or so metres long. Inside a range of produce is being grown, including red cabbage, lettuce, beans, basil and strawberries.
Nemo's Garden is an underwater farm created by the Ocean Reef Group in Italy. The project was started in 2012 as an experiment as the owner's crops were suffering in cold weather. Today, scuba divers and agricultural experts develop a project to work out if growing plants in pods on the seabed could be a viable solution to future food security.
